Yes, because this makes it even harder for people who can't play for long stretches of time to win culturally. I still want to know why I can't ever win culturally though. I do not WANT to have to mop up every single last planet when the enemy can not even begin to challenge me anymore. Not having to do that was one of the features of this game I really looked forward to. I still have the save game if any DEVs will look at it? --Soulfire

I don't know, I get 90-95% and still can't ever win. One of the DEVs statements mentioned that the cultural victory was a way to PREVENT you from having to kill every last single planet (because it's not FUN once the other empires are so weak they are no challenge), but killing every single last planet is the only way I can ever win no matter how much culture I have. :( --Soulfire

Another thing is that I've had about 46x the cultural influence in the sector the yellow AI's little pop. 5 planet is, and it still won't defect: My culture = 366 His = 8 It has been like this for probably 36 turns, and it still never defected to me. When you first load the game, it sais my influence there is only like 138 I think, but after running 1-2 turns it goes up to 366 (which I also do not understand). --Soulfire

Well I killed everyone I was at war with (to get rid of enough opposing culture). The yellow guys had one planet with a population of only 5 (A miserable planet I used as a fule depot to extend my range and then gave it away when I didnt need it anymore), and the purple guys had their starting homeworld left, but I was at peace with both of them. In fact the purple guys (Yor) were way in the green with me. --Soulfire

Most of the time they all have +50% HPs or more way before they could research them or have sufficient resources to grant this. I'm pretty sure the AIs get a lot more racial picks than we do (i guess double or even triple). I've played mostly smaller maps where it's easy to find out fairly early what all resources there are available on the map and I use more than my fair share of survey ships and research the speed techs much earlier than the AIs and thus I know I score the vast majority of t

This is my third consecutive game with this problem (2 small and 1 medium universe). I have all but one of the 64 sectors under my control, the game has listed "12mts" next to culture victory objective for almost 2 years now, and it still won't let me win. There are only two enemy planets left in the game, and one of them only has like 5 people on it. Unless I am totally misunderstanding something, there is no way I should not get to win with what I have?!? I even tried running the game for ano

I don't think it is them being better at getting to the resources. In my game, I had most of the resources (or at least more than my "fair share") and had also explored MUCH more than my "fair share" of anomalies (I had 3 survey ships and much better speed tech compared to the AIs who also only had one survery ship each that moved much slower than mine). --Soulfire

Hi, I've been trying in several other threads for several days now to get an official developer's response about the speed racial ability. Specifically, the text sais you get a +1 or +2 parsec per turn increas for I believe either 3-4 points (+1) or 8 points (+2), but your ships do not seem to move any faster. Some have suggested it is a +10-20% increase, but that seems like a worthless skill in comparison to the high purchase point cost: For as much as those abilitie

It even sais +1 or +2 parsecs per turn in the text that describes the ability. For as much as those abilities cost, they need to do more than 10-20%, because even at 20% for EIGHT points, you would not see any benefit until a given ship could move at 5 parsecs a turn (because they seem to round everything down). With the +1 bonus, a ship would have to be able to move TEN squares a turn before it got any bonus. Can a ship ever even move that fast in this game (mine never have)?!? Can

Also, it doesn't seem like how much an empire likes or dislikes you has any affect on how willing they are to deal with you. Seems like an empire that hates you would be willing to pay you a lot less for trades and and demand more BCs from you for items you want than an empire that liked you? --Soulfire

SIMPLE solutions: 1) Get rid of the X$ for Yturns payments to keep their economies strong. Also that way they can never spend more than they can truly afford. 2) The AI will only buy decent ships. 3) The AI will not buy ships that cannot return to their space in X number of turns. 5) No negotiating during war unless it is to negotiate the terms of peace. 5) Peace treaties (and probably when you extort something out of an enemy under "threat" of war

If you get lucky and "find" a corvette early and race to get the tech to build transports, you can get some decent early military gains. You'd also want extreme military bonuses for your race if you wanted to employ a "rush" strategy. --Soulfire

Is it just me, or do the AIs get 2-3x (or more) the racial picks of the human player? When I check their racial stats after doing espionage, they are SO much better than mine even in games where I have the majority of the resources, wonders, etc. (things tha give global bonuses). Just wondering... :notsure: --Soulfire

If it's really supposed to be only 10-20%, that is a HORRIBLE deal compared to anything else you could buy for 4 or 8 race bonus points? :( You'd have to have a ship at speed 5 to even get a +1 (with the +20 parsec %) 8/10 points) or speed 10 to get a measly +1 (with the 4 point +1 parsec %). Can you ever GET to speed 10? If this is really how it is supposed to be, they need to lower it to only 1 or 2 points. :( --Soulfire

Well it did not seem to work in that game. I had ownership of every sector, 90%+ of the cultural influence of at least 90% of the sectors, I hel that advantage for several years (not turns) waiting for the win, and still I ended up having to conquer every last planet before it let me win. :( Does anybody know what eh "12mts" means next to the cultural victory progress screen (by saved games)? --Soulfire

1) When I choose a speed bonus for my race in setup, my ships move the exact same speed as when I don't choose a speed bonus. For spending 4-8 points, that sucks not having your ships be any faster. 2) I can't seem to get a culture victory. I had every single sector and well over 90% of the total culture points for several years (not months) and still had to conquer every single planet before I could win.

I'm playing my first full game, and I have had all but one sector of a small galaxy culturally dominated (my color) for like 3 years now and still have not won. Is this broken or is there something I am misunderstanding? :notsure: --Soulfire

Ships that are in orbit around planets should be shown up by the "find" command unless they are set to sentry or something. I find myself building new ships and forgetting to ever move them because they do not show up when I hit tab. :notsure: If there is some other way around this problem, I'd be equally happy. :) --Soulfire
