Knock on wood, I'm very happy with the performance and stability I get with the latest WindowsBlinds 7.2 (build 297) under Windows 7 64bit. Im RDPing from my work machine (Vista32 Enterprise) to my home machine (with WindowsBlinds on it). Is there a way to see transparencies in the RDP session? Windows blinds unfortunately converts my black Windows taskbar into an ugly solid light grey color. In older versions of WB 6.x, at least the taskbar was

Thanks, I already know its stable when set to high. I'm more interested in knowing what happens if I increase DWM process priority to realtime, that would make OS window drawing quicker, without introducing instability? Would that possibly degrade performance for other direct3D rendering done at the same time? Almost everything I do on my desktop is directshow/EVR (MediaCenter type stuff). I'm curious how it would affect that when set to realtime. [quot

I'm using Windows Blinds 6.4 under Vista32; and no plans to upgrade Windows Blinds or Windows OS version. I noticed that the only Windows Blinds processes I can identify... WBVista.exe and VistaSrv.exe are both set to Realtime. I know its general rule of thumb in most cases to never to set a process at Realtime. Having said the above; what kind of an impact would it have on Windows OS if I change the process priority of dwm.exe to Realtime (from the default "High

Is there another software publisher/distributor besides Impulse that sells Windows Blinds standalone? Im still stuck on Windows Blinds 6.4 (last standalone version). I'm pretty happy with that version; except Windows Explorer 8 and Office 2010 titlebars are completely messed up; even when I disable skinning for them. If we are still forced to installing Impulse; just so we can install Windows Blinds, maybe someone has instructions on how to completely remove all traces

Neil, when new customers buy SKS, they receive a direct URL download for the latest build. I just want to know where that is without having to buy it again. I can understand if SKS needs regular patches like Microsoft Windows Update on Patch Tuesdays to justify the need for a proprietary downloader/installer, but forcing to install Implulse for a one time install on a new machine just doesnt make any sense ...or all software devleopers would follow this practice.. making Windows a

I'll try asking sales support. If I buy Skin Studio Pro now, I will get a real/direct URL to download it. I guess if I had dozens of apps that I downloaded regularly from Stardock, it would make more sense to have a dedicated downloader/installer. But having a dedicated downloader/installer doesnt seem to make sense for only 1 app that I need to download. Just imagine if every software publisher decided to make their own proprietary downloader/installer... it would rea

Thats the first thing I tried. Only Windowsblinds is available that way and the paid skins. For Skinstudio 6 Professional it says the following: SkinStudio 6 Professional: DL 1: http://www.impulsedriven.com/about.asp (Please install Impulse to download.) Anyway, still looking for a real URL to download it. I'm sure there's gotta be an installer executable. Maybe via FTP? Originally, when I bought Skin Studio, i was pointed to

Okay, if Stardock doesnt want to fix what they broke. Could someone please at least tell me what I can do in Skinstudio to get the taskbar to be Windows Blinds 6.1/6.2 friendly? I think Neal said something about if I add transparency to the images in the skin itself, I wont need to force transparency in WB on the taskbar; hence, when Aero effects get disabled, it will look black still. Thanks in advance for someone kind enough to help.

I finally got word back after several months of emailing Stardocks Support. I did not edit or change their response (direct quote below). Not only did the person responding not understand the impact this bug has (which affects many different circumstances in addition to RDP)... basically, any time Aero enhancements get disabled with a dark skin with user-defined transparency. Their solution after months of waiting for them to un-break the problem they broke in 6.1 was to give me refund. This

Thanks for trying to help Ooberman... you recognized the skin! :) Anyway, the effects of skins such as this under Vista Ultimate when Aero enhancements are disabled is the screenshot you see above. I'm not sure what was changed in Windows Blinds 6.1, but it just broke this. I'm not just asking to fix this only for me, but for anyone who has Vista Ultimate with very popular skins such as this. This problem happens when RDPing into the machine via an XP machine or when watching Blu-ray

It looks like the developers blatantly ignored fixing this in 6.2. I realize I'm not the only stardock user complaining about an ongoing bug. But, I think I have been patient enough for something that I've asked to "unbreak" since the code change in 6.1. Bottom line is since WB 6.1, dark skins which may not support transparency, show an ugly grey now when aero special effects are disabled. This wasn't a problem in WB 6.0. I have already sent at least one skin that get broken to support to te

For some odd reason, my Windows Media Player using Vista32 with Aero effects on, produces this ugly light grey color at the bottom. Once in a while, I dont do anything at all, and the color will change to the correct color.. which is supposed to be an almost black color that's transparent (look at the bottom Aero transparent color). How can I force WMP to have the correct color on the bottom for it's Aero effects? It looks like its related to the bug introduced in WB 6.1: <

Thanks for replying back to my support request. However, in the support request it says I'm asking for a feature request. I'm just asking for a fix or "unbreaking" the change in WB 6.1 which causes all dark transparent taskbars to not show correctly anymore when transparency effects are disabled in the OS. Sincerely, -Michael [quote]I have updated the ticket in our email queues. Obviously since Neil responded here there wasn't much to add. I did want to post that you were

Right... the problem is "WB now blends this again grey vs. black". This is a problem for people who have dark transparent taskbars made for WB 6.0; as, they will not longer look correct under this situation with version WB6.1. In order to "un-break" this for all themes with dark transparent taskbars, it would be great to provide a checkbox under advanced WB settings to blend with grey or black depending on the if the taskbar is dark or light to keep the colors more consistent; or at least offe

Thanks for trying to help. I dont think thats related; as, I have WinVista and the color used to stay black under the same conditions when using the same skin under WB 6.0. [quote]Instead of it looking deep black with no transparency, it turns light grey.I run Vista Home Basic.(No aero). What you are describing is the difference between Windows Vista Basic=Black andWindows Vista Standard=Grey (in classic appearances) on my machine. Not sure if that helps, but they are different colors.Cou

Hi Neil, when Vista Aero's special effects (transparency) is disabled, the Windows taskbar color (which is transparent black, changes to non-transparent light grey instead of non-transparent solid black. This problem didn't happen in WB 6.0. In WB 6.0, when Aero special effects are disabled, the taskbar is displayed correctly.... it shows as black... just without transparency. With WB 6.1, the transparency is disabled, and the color has this ugly light grey. I have idea where this grey color

I'm not exactly sure what to do. I have already submitted a support request several weeks ago clearly proving there's a reproducable bug which was introduced in version 6.1; that wasn't in version 6.0. I've been repeatedly asking access to a daily build from the developers which has a fix, but my requests just keep getting ignored. I have repeatedly emailed tech support with a case # and also updated my esupport ticket. Nothing.
