Sorry, I didnt see your post nor anyone else's until significantly later; which might have appeared I ignored your post and kept looking for answers. It appears the forum has had some problems lately with updating thread posts timely and appears to post them in "spurts". So far, 1 and 3 have been confirmed as they can't be changed. There's nothing hard about modifying these attributes (from software engineering/reverse-engineering standpoint); at least the non-office components. I am just hoping that SKS already supports this; at least for a few of the items. I am hoping someone can confirm that NONE of these items can be changed currently in SKS. You can use any WBA for this. Those components are all part of Windows Vista.... and a couple from Outlook 2007. I'm sure one day SKS will evolve to where a you can right-click any OS GUI component in a virtual desktop and change it's properties. But until then, I guess we need to dig around through the menus and submenus to find where to change these properties for each respective GUI component. Unfortunately, I've just never had the motivation to learn how to use paint programs... but with SKS, it looks like I'll need to be. I just started using pbrush.exe and Paint.NET about a week ago when I bought SKS. BTW, your background is perfect! I didn't notice any imperfections even

Okay Erik, I looked through all the gradients listed on adobe's exchange website. The closest thing I could find to what I have doesnt seem to be transparent. I'm really, really bad with paint programs. I actually, dont have the expertise to create my own transparent background with a gradient; which is why I was trying to use one from another skin. Don't laugh, but I spent my entire evening last night cutting and pasting and stretching a tiny background I found from another skin. I think I messed up the original background when I stretched it. I'm almost embarrassed to say how anal I am when it comes to making a perfect skin. Most people probably dont notice or care, but I really do. I am trying to make a background for the Start Menu's "Programs list (left)" to have a gradient + transparency which is perfect when using 24bit full color depth. I was hoping for something exactly like this utility (as long as it does clean perfectly... leaving NOTHING behind. So, this utility is safe to use with the latest SKS and WB under Vista? I dont like the idea of using general registry cleaners; as then have a tendency to remove things that you need. Actually, I am seeing this problem in the original skin as well; but only in a few apps like Windows Media Player and Firefox. This might just be a problem with the way WB 6.0 works with RDP under Vista.

Hi Neil, since I wrote this post, I have actually gotten my feet wet with Skinstudio/WB 6.0 I very motivated to fix this problem for myself. Would you be kind enough to please help me get started with fixing this by answering the below questions: 1) If I upgrade to WB 6.1 beta, will it install in the same directory as the final release? It wont have a proprietary beta install like "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds beta 3"? 2) Will upgrading WB 6.
I just found out it's not the original skin. I messed something up! It looks like I have to backtrack and see what I did wrong.
Okay, I found out more about this problem, it only shows up in a remote desktop session. I guess windowsblinds skins haven't been tested too well with remote desktop sessions; or possibly, just a rare problem just with this skin. The buttons are all set correctly and display correctly on the machine itself.

Actually, I think I understand the limitation. That particular menu does not like transparent backgrounds. I'm guessing maybe in th future stardock might support it; but for now, at least I understand the software is NOT broken, it just doesnt support it at this time.

Okay, it looks like I was right all along. This is a bug. Can someone with Vista and Version 6 of SKS/WB please confirm this? I certainly can't be the first person in this world who's discovered this problem. It doesnt have anything to do with settings such as Visa-ize, transparency/alpha channel selection in image properties of SKS. Bottom line is transparent backgrounds are broken specifically for "Places list (right)" which share the same background as popup menus; NOT.. "more

Ahhhhhh! I think it's grabbing it from two different places... which is why I see that ghosting effect. I will check the "more programs menu" section when I get home. I cant remember what I have set there.
