Paxx, whatever you think about adni, please be objective. Adni is a master in your hierarchy, and his submissions have been regular and maybe he has the largest 'my skins' library on WC. Plus the fact that a whole lot of his work is rated a 10. That achievement alone makes him a top author. Full stop. For once you maybe a little bit grateful for all his work he submitted. I can not understand in another thread why you whine about another person leaving while his contribution was mainly insulting people he didn't like and sheer arrogance. Adni has given so many people so much good, and yet this is not respected. Probably his work is sold on the WC CD's too, which now sell for 7,95. I say a little bit more respect for someone who inspired a whole lot of people. to adni.

None of this is personal to Adni and i doubt Paxx would make it that way.

I second MadIces' idea about the hotlist. That could give a better balance between established and new talents.

This is not about Adni, ok? It's neither for him or against him.

I agree DM, I dont think anyone wants to disrespect him. I honestly dont. My god, look at his body of work. I wish I could unsay or resay some of my previous comment. With or without that list over there, I see adni as "untouchable". So I couldnt understand why he is upset. But reading others comments that know him and have been around longer, I maybe understand why he feels what he does. You dont have to be here long to recognize the quality and quantity of his presence. Would there be room on this site for just one more list? A list of one for now... or a few.. A "Hall of Fame" ? A "Million Club" ? Does that sound stupid? Something like it maybe?
It would recognize his achievement and tenure while the powers that be could formulate and recalculate till doomsday without disturbing that list. Just an idea, maybe it will spark others.

I like that idea, Hall of Fame Then some of the great like Nuvem can be honoured too.

Simple truth is ANYONE who makes a skin and ups it here is a top skinner as compared to a noskiller like myself. They could keep adding lists till everyon is happy and on one but then it would make lists even more pointless.

Maybe change the list to a diffrent name like "Popular Artists" or some such and mainly just designate the top 10 artists dl for the week or month. Nothing more. Don't let it accumillate for a yr or what ever (I'd say max at 1 month cycle would be best) Then on each items page change stats to

DL Today (for list"Todays Hot Hits" or "Weeks Top Hits")
DL for month (this would be stat used for "Popular Artist")
DL Total (for "Top Download" or "User Fav's" or some
such title)

This way if you put it on a month cycle then say a new artist shows up and just Floors us with something they have an opportunity to be seen on the Pop list and if not then someone else would be hehe.

A little perspective here guys,

The new system is not biased against anyone. Having the system focus on downloads that come from..well WinCustomize as opposed to external links, for instance is hardly disrespectful to anyone.

As for Adni, he's #4 today. Teretog, Alexandrie, Essorant and others aren't even on the to 10 list at all. So if you're going to go down the slippery slope of implying that any system we devise should somehow garauntee some author the #1 spot because they've contributed a lot, then we might as well throw out the top authors list and have me personally decide who the top authors are.

Is that what you'd like, LayCrayon? Maybe a list that just has the top authors of all time based on our view on who has "contributed" the most to the community? Put Treetog and Dangeruss and Mercury and Shawn Murdock and Alexandrie and Essorant and Adni and a few others. Then we could just dispense with this whole new system that is actually unbiased and objective. Indeed, maybe we should dispense with fairness all together and just say that some people are more equal than others. Would that suit you well?

Probably the single biggest change in the system is that downloads have to come from people who are actually on this site, with cookies on (so that they can't duplicate downloads and get both counted). Does that sound like a system that is biased or disrespectful?

I realize that there are a lot of primadonas in any creative community. But just remember, this community is where it is today becuase of the work of a LOT of people. Adni's contributions to it are signficant. But I would not rate them at the same level as the other people I mentioned above. Except that none of them are on the top 10 list right now and he is.

Frog, sounds to me like the way you have it set now if I read your post correctly seems a truly fair way. My comments were simply another alternative but your description of how things work now makes it moot.

To be honest, not to deflate any bubbles but I honestly don't even look at the list in question much at all and have never in 2 yrs clicked a name on the list. I do check "Top DL's" and "New additions" but never really paid any attention at all to Top Authors. This isnt meant to belittle anyone who's on it but just to point out that list is not the end all proof your good. Im much more interested in whats been dl the most to see why popular than to just dl anything made by so n so cause their considered the best.

One typo: I would not rate them HIGHER than the the contributions of others, but rather equally.

Frog, I merely responded to Paxx' question regarding what is a top author. I support any fairness, and any incentive to improve too, you should know me better by now. I support banning out botdownloads, I support featuring others people work on the feature list, finally that has changed for the better rather than having the same authors again and again. What I don't support is the negative reaction towards adni on this thread. Greece has a different culture than US. Wincustomize is having, thanks to him and the others you mentioned and all the other contributors, a great library of great quality work. I wish you responded more sober and in perspective towards me. I am not doing a crusade on putting adni back at no 1.

This is getting rather old. And BEYOND melodramatic. I just don't understand it all. Maybe cuz I'm still newer? But it is seriously getting old.

I can't see how WC trying to make something fair for everyone all around, is a cause for such melodrama? As long as fairness is involved I say great--thanks Frogboy and all the WC Admins.

And I just don't see how Adni is being stripped of his worth? Everyone knows he's good, and he puts out a lot of good work. By the gods that man has over 5 mil downloads...

Some rating scale isn't going to take away the people that love his work? So what's so horrifying. Again maybe it's because I haven't been here long enough to know a lot, but it just seems all so blown out of proportion. I wish I understood how this was hurting Adni so much? I don't email/talk with the man on a personal level so I don't know him other than his work. (Which I LOVE his work!)You guys are saying English isn't his first language, and things could be misunderstood, that makes a difference. Ok, but I don't understand why everyone is calling this "Adni Bashing?"
This thread is titled "The reward!" What kind of reward are we looking for? We all freely submit our work for free... I'm not bashing just bummed and confused.
