The only reward for an author in WinCustomize is the love of the people mainly, which is demonstrated with the downloads and the Top Author list, no doubt about it.

Now WinCustomize is trying to find out a way to control this.

I am still having the most downloads, but it doesn't saw it in the list any more, one day you may find your self in this situation too.

I know that some or many of you didn’t like to see me at the top of this list, but I have succeed it with a hard work for almost 2 years now, nobody has make me a favor for this, I may say the opposite has happen.

I was newbie once; I didn’t start from the top of this list, so I can’t understand what is all about helping the new author’s excuse, if you know what I mean.

So please, don’t try to be like me, because in the end you will get a great disappointment as the final reward for your work and your participation as an active member in WC.

After what is happening now, I have decided to stop, as long as the situation is like this.

You won’t see any more any “cheap stuff made in China from Panascanic”. (This was another reward for my work!).

I like to give my thanks to people who have have been kind with me, that was all I really needed, and I understand the reason for those that they didn’t , I don’t blame them, they just could not be different.

What are the facts as you understand them Adni? So you may correct my misunderstanding.

The methodology has changed so that Top Authors reflects downloads only from users oof this site and excludes downloads triggered from other sites. So it is a list of Top Authors on *this* site based on downloads directly from *this site only*. The total number of downloads from all sites to here also are noted if you also look at the other page. So there are two sets of numbers, one specific to this site and one inclusive of all downloads regardless of the originating source. So your problem with that is precisely what?

And I abuse you? How? Do I say you are a bad person and a bad artist? Tell me precisely how have I "abused" you? By saying you have on this and other occasions have jumped to conclusions and made unfounded allegations? Is that a falsehood? If it is not, how is that abuse? To disagree with you is to abuse you? To say that you threaten to leave if the numbers aren't tallied in a manner that suits you? That's not what you said? That's not a form of extortion? That's not conduct some may find unseemly?

Tell me what "facts" to which you refer, Adni, of which I evidently am unaware. And what is wrong with using "Top Authors" to reflect the top downloads on this site only? Please explain what is unfair about that?

Please remember that Adni's native language is Greek. These kinds of topics are quite delicate to discuss. Imagine someone who's native language is English trying to communicate effectively and delicately in say French or Italian.

Because you know the facts, can you make some things clear for me?

MadIce said that it is good for the newbies, T-Man says that it is for the system secure, Frogboy says it is about the featured skin-the skincast and the downloads from other sites and I say where are my downloads which are ALL from WinCustomize???

This is absolutely rediculous.

This should be rather simple.

All accumulative downloads from this site and this site only should reflect the top author or top downloads. If that author has received the most overall downloads(legitimate, no duplicates counted) in all categories for the day then hence #1 and so on.

Personally I am shocked at the disrespect towards adni18, after all the time and effort he has put into his skinning and walls for years now to only hand them over to all of us for FREE!!!

You know the old saying "Nothings for free"? Not true here at Wincustomize, we should all be thankful to adni18.

The language barrier has caused some definite communication problems with these posts but let's be real...

Who doesn't want to be #1? If your skinning or whatever else and submitting your work, you would be lying to yourself and everyone else if you say you don't want to be "The Champ" even if it's only for a day.

I love skinning and it has honestly become a kind of addiction

I will tell you all in complete honesty...I WANT THE TITLE BABY!!!

As I've pointed out before, we should all keep in mind that each person here may have different motivations for skinning. Just because one person deems their motive more "noble" than the rest, doesn't necessarily make it so. Sone skinners do what they do for "fame" and notoriety with in the community. Some do it just because it's fun. Some may even do it out of sheer boredom (at the time) and not having anything else to do. Some skin and "share" their work with us only as a means to advance themselves monetarily at some point in the future. Some people's motivation may be plain and simple competition, wanting to be the best. I'm sure most people would say that their own motivation is a combination of some of these. The fact remains that whatever your motivation is, it doesn't make you better than the next person. You submit your stuff freely just like the next person does. What does it matter why you're doing it?

Also, speaking from my own experience in having a disagreement/misunderstanding with nikos I can tell you that if you take something he types here as being egomaniacal or unethical, you're mistaken. Nikos is pure of heart and always has the best of intentions, regardless of how he comes across in print.

Adni I understand you are angry, but please don't WC, you are one of the most downloaded people on the internet. please understand that if you leave, many will miss out on your talent. I understand your points, and I'm going to stay out of this argument about how it should be tallied, because the guys(and gals) who run the site have enough to deal with. But no matter what happens, you would be missed if you were gone, so don't make this your last thread, and don't let us down.

I am a big fan of your work, and many others would agree that you belong here...

Adni: your downloads from this site are not all triggered by download requests directly from users *here.* Evidently perhaps most of your downloads recorded here are actually downloaded via links on other sites on the internet. If you tally only the downloads by users from links directly on this site, skinbrowser or the skincast thingy, that's the difference and that number is now what is reflected on the Top Authors list. Ask the admins/wizops if they can explain the numbers in more detail to you so you can see what they are or are not doing.

I hope so, but do not not think so. The HotList topic is a different one. A proposal. Not implemented yet. And it may never be implemented. The HotList would coexist with the current list. Anyway that is a different topic. Anyone interested can read the HotList thread.

I got an idea to calculate downloads...but I don't know how well it would work...

For each interval of downloads you get a point. Example, 2000 downloads = 2 points.

This will favor the more DOWNLOADED skins rather than the person who submits more skins. So if you have say 5 skins where each skin recieved 5000+ downloads, you be way ahead of someone who submitted 50 skins but recieved 100 downloads on each.

I'm not sure if I'm helping in any sort of way, it sounded like a good idea when I thought of it.

I have thought of porting toon to Trillian, but a trillian skin isn't easy, i've been looking at it since last night... (just bought Trillian Pro) I want to have a toon skin since it doesn't match, and someone needs to step up to the plate I wish SkinStudio could make a trillian skin, if skin studio had that capability there would be millions more trillian skins... hint hint (hint's aimed at Stardock)... in fact, maybe Skin Studio be awesome if you could make skins for more than just StarDock Applications... just an Idea, but if it can't be done for some legal reason I will understand...

Listen, that list is called "Top Authors". It's not called "Most Downloaded Authors" or anything else. It's just called Top Author. So, what is a top author? How do you define a top author?
Previously, we counted the sum of all the downloads on all the submissions from an author. We found quirks with that system, so we are trying something different. You know, we could procede in many ways; we could count the ratings, we could do an average downloads/#skins, we could even just hand pick who we fell are the best 10 skinners.

We're trying to find the fairest method, as the way it was before didn't work. So please, just relax, and go skin something will ya?
