The reward!

The only reward for an author in WinCustomize is the love of the people mainly, which is demonstrated with the downloads and the Top Author list, no doubt about it.

Now WinCustomize is trying to find out a way to control this.

I am still having the most downloads, but it doesn't saw it in the list any more, one day you may find your self in this situation too.

I know that some or many of you didn’t like to see me at the top of this list, but I have succeed it with a hard work for almost 2 years now, nobody has make me a favor for this, I may say the opposite has happen.

I was newbie once; I didn’t start from the top of this list, so I can’t understand what is all about helping the new author’s excuse, if you know what I mean.

So please, don’t try to be like me, because in the end you will get a great disappointment as the final reward for your work and your participation as an active member in WC.

After what is happening now, I have decided to stop, as long as the situation is like this.

You won’t see any more any “cheap stuff made in China from Panascanic”. (This was another reward for my work!).

I like to give my thanks to people who have have been kind with me, that was all I really needed, and I understand the reason for those that they didn’t , I don’t blame them, they just could not be different.

your gone from the top? How is that? I agree with you indeed. The top authors should be the same, and you deserve to be on the TOP, you upload much wallpapers, 1/2 a week, and its a shame if we dont respect that.

ANYway, I never understood the number system really, thought I got the idea once or twice after some ivestigation.

now its in th 200 range and it almost never is in the 200 range for anyone.

I think they are fixing something anyway

There's one thing I would like to say Nikos, nobody can take your work away from you! After all you have created so many skins, and once I have called it "adniism" One has only to search for adni18 on google, that shows how many you contribute! I for one go often to skinbase to see whether you have submitted any new work. I will follow you wherever you upload.

I don't see it as a race but as recognition and i must say its nice to be displayed on the list at one point, if everyone was to start "Bashing" them out trying to compete then i can see the quality slowly degrading in order of trying to reach first place.

What people forget is its not a job its what we do for fun so if youe on the list one day and not the next is it really that big a deal, if you made it on then you must be doing something right.

You might be right moshi. It could be sad if its a race to the top of the list. But it might be more sad if you can change the system in order to not count someones downloads inorder to change the people on the Top Author's list. It does kind of make the Top Authors list seem cheap or meaningless. Oh well, it's not my site or money.

No, it has nothing to do with a race, I can understand adni, I've been 3 times in the top author list since I've been around, and that was all the time when I uploaded something with much work and efford in it.
To see you in the topauthor list is just because you've worked hard on something, and you deserve it. Adni sure deserve's it to be on number 1! He never has been off number one (ok, in the exeption when treetog uploaded copperdeck II...)

I agree with Dark Mist. I would rather see 'quality not quantity'. I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to see my name up there, but, at this point, I'm concentrating on learning and improving my skills.
Top authors should be Top Authors.

As far as I know a top author is someone who got the most overall dl per day. That's how I read it and how it was explained. I clicked on that tab and just did a count of Adni's dl total dl overall and my machine says 4920...

Total count of Ingui is 3138...Ohwell...It will be explained later, I guess how the counting goes.

Adni, if the only reason you make skins is to be on the top of the top author's list 365 days of the year, then maybe you are here for the wrong reasons.

Sorry to see you go because you make top-notch skins adn wallpapers. Your work was usually my favorite.

Now about what you said about the them not counting your downloads.... Can any administrators or perhaps Brad shed any light here?

Paxx, isn't it more about fairness rather than that race issue? As I have read it, the dl overall are not corresponding.

I guess I should have stopped skinning long ago............ oh, but wait a minute, I don't skin to be popular, or to receive praise, I skin coz I love it. My reward is the end result, and if a few people like what I've done, that's great. If I get a couple of compliments, and/or if someone actually takes the time to 'rate' my work as above average, that's a bonus.
A race for the Top Authors box......?........ ummmmm I clearly don't "get it".

Lecrayon, We won't tell for the moment how it's done; we'll see first how it goes, and make more tests. But rest assured that we are trying hard to be fair for everybody.

Everyone has their own variety reasons for skinning but, if most were honest with themselves they'd admit, they don't just do it for themselves, otherwise why post their skins at all?

paxx: Exactly, but most artists are looking for approval/acceptance/recognition, pick your term. Sharing means you didn't just do it for yourself. Whatever may have been the motivating factor to begin with, something else is required after the work is completed. I doubt anybody here would appreciate zero comments, zero downloads after the hours spent creating a skin or a wall.

And what about walls? One of the reasons people work so hard on them is to get them approved. Its used as a sort of gauge as to how much they've improved when they finally get one posted. If it were merely for there own self-satisfaction, there are plenty of sites where someones approval is not required just to post your work.

Am I making sense?
