To be completely honest, I understand this new dispute is more of a legal strategy, but disputing that Paul and Fred were the creators of Star Control is just downright daft and it's not going to gain you any points with the community. If it weren't for them, we would not be having this discussion. Just accept that and drop these charges... Sit down at a table with them (and your army of expensive lawy

Thank you for all the responses, it makes one look at the situation with a different perspective... still no one wants either part to give up applying their talent to this brilliant game. i will keep my faith up that it will work out and pray both parties bring out their respective games... whether they agree on the terms or do it their own seperate way (sad) but if no choice would have to be acceptable i suppose.
So no animated pilots in the ships at all ? or just not until the game is finished ? So far i am good with what i see, i just hope the game will be equally immersive and realistic like. You know the kind of feeling you get when playing it, you want to feel that you do not want to stop, you want to keep exploring and discovering without realizing the time going by, that's what a good game feels like, you want to do meaningful realistic upgrades as well and discover and explore
All i want to know is, is Paul and Fred still continuing to create their new game i am not hearing a peep and i'm not seeing a word anywhere on the net. I want to see that AND their progress. If so, i can live with what happened the past months and will just keep a blind eye towards what happened. And continue to support both Stardock and Paul and Fred. If P & F is not continuing their game with the entheusiasm that they always had, this whole deal will be a seriou

I hear what you say, but until i have played on a bigger map and the tweaking has been completed cannot give any opinions on how well it compares to sc2's universe in the "fun, exciting and balance factor" so the benefit of the doubt is still out there, i might like it, or not ? will have to wait and see. Also just to mention in the wrap around universe the slower ships did have their advantages in a different way, that is one of the way's SC2 made each and every ship exciting to man,
The wrap around map of SC2 is a type of barrier, and the last thing it feels like when you teleport from one side to the other is "natural". It does feel as though you have more freedom, but it also feels strange and doesn't work anywhere near as well as a barrier/wall/arena. You have to do something to make it work as a game, an open map with no containment doesn't work for a lot of different reasons. <br
While I'm here, I'd also agree with the OP that a lot of weapons just don't feel all that impactful and different. Some do, some feel like they're just retextures of each other (what is the difference between Tywom Bolt and Scout Shot, for instance?). Now, this in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing: Star Control 2 certainly had plenty of weapons that were very similar to one another, and the ships that had those were generally distin
Drax, the current BETA map is just one map. The one they decided to use for the initial BETA release. It is intentionally a "boxing ring". If you remove the planet, this is the "serious dueling arena". The map can be much bigger than this and still achieve it's primary goal of forcing faster ships to fight. Even twice as big as it is now, you couldn't run away for so long that it would annoy the slower player.&
"I would like to see the ability to change what the weapons look like as well" I would not like that at all, see that's exactly what i meant way back in the development phase here on this forum by too much customization, gameplay would be odd if someone fires a projectile that looks unfamiliar to the opposing player for one. It would feel like cheating/un authentic as well, it's like taking an arrow and dressing it up as a missile, at th
Honestly, point and click will remove the fun from combat. Have you tried using a controller? Quite a few players report it is far more enjoyable and easier to control.
Indeed making motion of the ships mouse based would be boring not to mention really frustrating.
In a way i feel like having this feature is cheating, i figured out the strong and weak points of each ship by myself and found the trial and error part in getting the best tactics with each ship to be enjoyable. Though i'll likely never use it, i wouldn't say no to not having it, i'd probably not use it but it's nice to know that it is there, should one really get stuck and not figure out a certain ship's potential.
I personally don't quite get what the problem is ? That's exactly how it's been in Star control 2, it automatically zooms in and out depending on how close you are to the other ship, that's been normal, felt normal and worked well. It gave a sense of immersiveness, anxiousness in a positive way that lets you feel you are now close to the enemy and must now either fight it out or take evasive action, really added life to the combat part of the game and it should definately stay ! What is this ? ? ? ? i'm usually first at hearing the news here when it breaks now i'm the LAST....! This is truly Astounding news i am beyond stoked ! ! ! ! ! I don't beleive this ! ! ! Paul and Fred coming back to continue this masterpiece is The Best news i've heard in over 20 years ! ! ! ! ! I have to say THANK YOU SO MUCH SO VERY VERY VERY VERY MUCH, but then again it's always just been natural for them to come back and continue what is truly fundamentally p
If there's a create/design your own ship in SC Origins, then take as long as you need. It's my #1 desire for a new addition. Imo, that would take SC to a new level.
O no please don't create a "design your own ship" option, that is going to force generic ships just to look different and not special, if not generic the balance will be interrupted, a whole chain reaction follows
Okay... I originally played this game on Sega CD system.... (Yes, I'm ancient and that's no reason to hate. [e digicons]:D[/e] ) The thing I liked best was the 2 player melee. Getting into altered states and playing melee with a friend in a similar condition was WAY too much fun. Knocking out a Chengesu (sp.?) with a Syrene (aka, Space Strippers) was just a super giggle. Don't get me started with the "use all earthling ships to take out the
I forgot to change one of my posts earlier where i replied on the Star Control section in a thread where i mentioned star control 3 had a good melee. The Melee in Star Control 3 sucked big time, SC2 had the perfect Physics, ships, environment, natural feel with the perfect adrenaline filled combat balance !

They should NOT be rushed, give them their space, they need to do this game right, if i had my way, i'd tell them to take at least 2 years but i would be more at ease for a release after 3 years. I don't know how many people is on board, what the budget and schedules is, i know they are putting a lot of resources into it, probably most everyone at Stardock. Frogboy and Brad touched on the subject. What i DO know for certain is, this is a big game that needs to be done right, a

A top down version like an rts game would be more immersive, which in turn would make it feel like 2 types of games many already love in one, the effects you could create would work so well with a top down setting, dust devils, rain, storms, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcano's depending on the type of planet. There's something just uniquely captivating about a top down view, especially for a game such as star control. you are not put on rails to sit and steer left or right at
