The only part i'd like to add a touch of rts is on the planets wrt scouting, a suv ship sent from your ship orbiting the planet from interest should land on the planet's surface, deploy and you should be able to build a harverster and a caryall to move your harverster around but you fly the caryall realtime and you control the harvester realtime, return to base to fill up your silos , repair your caryalls and harvesters on a repair bay, and then all launched back to your ship in orbit

[quote who="KiwiNoob" reply="6" id="3648681"] Nice to see an update. Any chance of getting more frequent updates or 'dev diaries'? Given the game is going to be released in about a year (not that far away in the grand scheme of things) it would be awesome to hear how things are shaping up. Fortnightly would be awesome but even monthly would be great. Screenshots of other things besides landscapes? In regards to the combat. Super melee is always good for a laugh (and I hope this game i

I Like the spirit, people here including myself are all very excited ! Just thinking about building my new ship, outfitting it with new technology, ships and landers, as i explore the planets finding old shipwrecks with blueprints of super technology from historic earthly races or newer generations. Finding a race stuck on a planet unable to leave as their ship broke down and they had to survive for an x amount of time hoping someone got their distress signal and help rebuild their sh
just re-watched the video, maybe i was a little hard on the critique, it doesn't look that bad but can definately be bettered, i liked at 58 seconds and 121 not bad the planets look realistic but they need more detail, more colour and immersion, and i would like to see the clouds, storms move on the planets from space, that would be awesome.
Space octopus would be really cool.
I did not find it exciting, it lacks life, like when dune 2 was remade into 3d when all the graphics looked like carton boxes, no life in the colours either. And very much lack of detail. i know stardock will get it right, they have a team passionate about Star Control, and understands what makes it so unique and exciting.

[quote who="Vaelzad" reply="174" id="3598220"] Quoting Tovanion, reply 173 2- Can you please give the "RTS" VS "SC2-as-it-was-and-nothing-else" dichotomy a rest? Fleet management does *not necessarily* mean RTS. I posted a suggestion for an in-between that is in no way RTS, for example.

Thats good, please don't let the game be rushed, take all the time that's needed, we must be willing to wait.
Is there any new news about the new Star Control yet, or am i missing the main thread somewhere ?
Personally i think scanning is something youd want to stay automated while you focus on other aspects such as pondering if and where you should land, navigating to planets and interstellar space, collecting minerals when on the planet controlling your landers/harversters etc. fighting and exploring...
The top five is clear as day: 1. Star control 2 2. Star control 2 3. Star control 2 4. Star control 2 5. Star control 2 the rest, i loved dune II westwood really put in their passion which created life in the game, the atmosphere, sound, the world, the units was a perfect balance for creating an immersve atmosphere, yes space quest for sure as well, hero's quest, Rex
Part of what makes Star Control such an addicting mystery is the realism of the planets, conceptualizing and actually creating planets that can realistically exist would be the ultimate, again yes it was mentioned that sc2 did not have "realistic" planets, however they were very much realistic enough to please the imagination as to what planets actually could be out there in our real universe. And yes planets out there can be so exotic that the more realistic planets would be extraordinary !<

Too many to mention but i will reply in a somewhat different fashion, The one on one combat was addicting and it was fun exploring the local star system, but when i actually clicked on the word Starmap i was in total Awe when what before me was a map of the Universe, immediately giving me a sense of the vastness of space and the ever so intriguing planets and intelligence, treasures, technology that i know will be out there ! ! Provided, i am prepared and that i could in Realti

Space is space, and the environment is and will always remain intriguing. The combat in SC was made to mimic space and how planets asteroids interact with the 2 opponents fighting ! all while thrusting through space, aiming and knowing what the weapon on the specific ship can do to plan how you would use it all unique and exciting, no weapon handled the same ! And no opponent acted the same, it made every combat experience exciting ! Every ship's weapon behavior had to be taken into

[quote who="Wintercross" reply="153" id="3594957"] urgh... I hated the arcade combat of the original Star Control. I loved everything BUT the combat, it was so jarring. Here is a space epic or adventure and uniting races under your banner.... and then you proceed to 1v1 death matches instead of bringing your entire mighty coalition fleet to bear at once... I hate 'arcade space combat'. I guess I'll give it a miss. as much as I want to play a new Sta
Agree, however making it just a little more interesting, once you scanned a planet and decide to land, lets say 4 pods descent at once when pushing the launch button once, and land on the planet, automatically once a spot has been selected prior to launching just as in sc2, the descent and land like the latest mars rover was landed with a rocket propelled landing platform/husk.. Once landed, let all of them deploy automatically, the first being the refinery, the second the repair bay and the
