"Fences" doesn't recognize the layout backup (XML & PNG)
That works only if you're restoring on the same computer that the backup was made on. I've tried copying the backup, xml and png files to another computer, but can't restore from those files.
Is there a way to backup on my old computer and then restore that backup to my new computer? I'm using Fences v6. tia, bert
I rebooted and got all back BUT the only fence that I previously had! The odd thing was that before I rebooted the icons were there - I just couldn't see them. If I clicked where an icon should be showing up, it would activate the icon (e.g., run a program, etc.). The icons in the fence that disappeared after rebooting can't be activated now, however. I have 2 monitors, and the fence is nowhere to be found. Windows 11 Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631 Fences v5.84 <
I've also lost all but one fence. It started just after I got the message that I had been "upgraded".
Ditto on the request to disable folder portals!!
Thanks, Basj. I think you may be right. I disabled OneDrive as I don't use it anyway so hopefully that won't happen again. bert
Several times over the past month most of my icons inside fences have disappeared. I have about 15 fences and each one has between 2 and 10 icons. The fences are still there, but about 80% of the icons have disappeared. All of the icons are links. The icons that didn't disappear are links as well. I tried restoring a daily snapshot from a few days ago, but that didn't change anything. This is getting VERY annoying, as I have to restore all of the icons. Why is this happening a
I know I can restore Fences from %appdata%\Stardock\Fences on my CURRENT computer, but how do I import a backup onto a NEW computer? I've tried it in the past and I haven't been able to do it. Is there any way to do this? thanks, bert
The option " Store my fences' positions on a per-screen-resolution basis " is a bit misleading - it sounds like Fences will remember a separate desktop setup for each screen resolution. I could be wrong, but I think that Fences used to remember it, as it used to preserve my setup. I only remote in when traveling, and haven't traveled much in the past year or so, but I never used to have this issue. bert
I could do that, but why should I have to? Based on the option selected ( "Store my fences' positions on a per-screen-resolution basis" ) isn't Fences supposed to remember the layout for each resolution?
I have my desktop set up the way I want it, but when I remotely access my desktop, at a lower resolution, the fences setup is changed. I have the setting "Store my fences' positions on a per-screen-resolution basis", but after remoting into my computer, when I return, the fences are resized and any icons not in a fence end up behind a fence. How can I get fences to restore my desktop after remoting in?
One of my fences has disappeared. I can see the icons are still in the "desktop" folder, but they fence is missing. I only have one desktop (Windows 10 64bit), and it's not rolled-up and "Desktop Pages" isn't enabled. It's also not "Quick Hidden". Somehow, I'm guessing that it's beyond the boundaries of the desktop. How can I recover and/or delete it?
