I live on the other side of the globe, but I sure know how you must feel! Hope you get a lot of new friends!

Yes, I know how you feel.
I have done the same thing and watched my friends eyes glaze over like I was giving some ancient History lesson on timelines. But hey, each to their own, and my friends will remain my friends, regardless.

I live near Chester SC. So don't feel discouraged. I used to work in Charlotte, at a OutSourcing Support Center for Adobe ( I was top tier for FrameMaker 1-6.)
When I worked there with other (supposedly) computer Geeks, I was the only one that was modd'ing anything. I actually had to bring in my own stuff to mod my machine @ work. I had to add my own sound card and additiona network card, and whatnot to get the machine I was assigned to do what I wanted. The Administrators there, had a dual relationship with me, they hated having to figure out my machines, once customized, but needed my help so often they had to grudgingly allow me to do what I wanted. Eventually I won them over. The closest I came to a fellow Skinner, was a MacHead, using Kaleidescope.

Well I know a few skinners who live around me including DavidK but most ppl don't know what I mean by "Skinning"

One must be careful to whom one says "I'm a skinner". One might get some strange, and/or non-comprehending looks.  And don't bother trying to explain..........

Funny, because most of the people I show this stuff too love it. I usually don't mention the word "skinning" until I explain what it is: Desktop Customization. I have been in this community for so long I forget sometimes that others do no know what skinning is.

I am trying to get my friends into it more. I am even planning to buy a few of them Object Desktop or WindowBlinds subscriptions. WHAT A NICE FRIEND I AM!!!

My almost maybe could be girlfriends pretend to like it to make me happy... I SEE THOUGH THE LIES!!!

Anyway, good luck in finding a friend who likes skinning like you do.

Been doing this for years and most of my family and friends just understand that my computer is Strange, some know what Stardock is,some think that I run Linux, Have a mac, the rest simply think I'm weird but come over anyhow cause they always have a puter problem they need fixed,..........

Yup'

I have to comment on that. My friends and family could care less about what I enjoy doing. 'skinning'

But as soon as one of them has a problem with their computer and need it fixed. Then they sure do seem a little interested!

My wife justs stares at the new layout, thinks for a second, curses and demands to know where I've put the buttons this time

I still like to take my friends computers and take a screen shot of their desktop and then use it for the desktop background. Then I hide everything like icons and taskbar. It's great to watch friends click endlessly with no results.

csurfside...there's a module for Litestep called 'razrez.dll'....sets screen resolutions and refreshrates when you recycle.....try setting an old 14" to 1600x1200 and 120Hz.....then recycle and watch people trying to click on....er....find their desktop.

Not all that simple to fix.....sometimes expensive....

I cant even get Litestep to work properly now. Looks like I got myself.

Jafo

Classes started today. But I hav'nt given up on that theme.
I have been sitting here reading more documentation on Litestep.

I wish they had a course out here for Skinners.

Brain Storm!

I think I will do that to the computer im using in this class so the next student will have a surprise. Heck, it might even fool the teacher.

csurfside-I live in Durham, NC, and have found that pretty much everyone around me is baffled by the whole skinning idea. Sort of a shame as once they see my desktop they realize what they are missing, but their loss, not ours.

To reply to the title, i'm no more a Wincustomize friend, and probably no more a Stardock customer as well after 5/6 years (?) of sending $ then €.

Yep i like to customize my PC, (and from time to time sharing some things i do), but when things are becoming so silly, i've just something else to do that spending part of my time trying to explain evidence ... )

And just a little note for Stardock : lots of compagnies are paying to get beta testors. If you did'nt get all those ODNT subscribers (who for the most of them are enjoying to test new unworking versions of programs - for parts of them - and give you informations that you would'nt be able to find and solve on your own) what would your compagnie should have become ????

Just think a little of this ...

Hmm, I don't know about lots. As far as games go, they usually have people frantically filling out applications in the scant hope to be a beta tester. And even if they do test the game they still have to buy it when it comes out. Lots of software is the same as Stardock does with ODNT. If you have paid for an earlier version of some software they then will let those folks beta test upcoming versions. But I don't think it is nearly as common for companies to pay for beta testors as you are implying.

I could be wrong though.
