Well neophil78, I will not leave a comment to your last post, and you, as a long time subscriber, should know why. All I can say is that you've convinced me to buy a subscribtion to Wincustomize when my paycheck arrives by the end of the month, and while I'm at it I might as well upgrade to Object Desktop.

"And just a little note for Stardock : lots of compagnies are paying to get beta testors. If you did'nt get all those ODNT subscribers (who for the most of them are enjoying to test new unworking versions of programs - for parts of them - and give you informations that you would'nt be able to find and solve on your own) what would your compagnie should have become ????"

Yes, because it's such a chore to beta test, and people hate it, but only do it to help Stardock....
Who you kidding? People love having access to the beta and alpha versions. Not many companies out there allow all their customers such access. Stardock got where they are through hard work, not through everyone else doing all the hard work.

"People love having access to the beta and alpha versions"

Yep, perhaps a lot loves it ... hoping the versions won't get too much buggies. Do you really think millions(?) of customers enjoy to look for bugs and report them? Of course correcting bugs and developping such softs is a big deal, but trying to find (and reproduce) bugs to give good informations on them is also another hard work for just users ... How long time Stardock would have spend on developpment without this feedback ???

No one is forcing them to try the betas.

Yep, we know that, we know

Going back a few posts on this one, but I had to tell you guys this.

Ok, classes just started and I was in my 1st day of class for for cis-120.
Anyway, The teacher was going around the class asking everyone to stand up and tell the class your name, major and things you like to do.

I ended up going last. I stood up and told them my name and major and followed up with all I do is sit infront of a computer all day for fun.
The teacher asked what it was that I did.
I could'nt resist. I told them I was a skinner You should have seen the faces of everybody! Not one person had a clue what I meant. He asked for more detail as to what exactly that was. I told him that I like to set up different Litestep themes and use programs like Icon packager and desktop x. The entire class and teacher looked at me like I was crazy!
Standing there turning beat red all I could do is think about this thread and the discussion that we posted earlier about peoples reaction.
I just bursted out laughing and humiliated myself.

Well a month later and now I own Object Desktop. Now im going for the subscription and a Tee-Shirt.

t-shirt???

I refuse to be that into it.

I did want my old school to have a class (or teach skinning withing a class). But I really need a laptop to show them what I am talking about and I don't have one. I could, technically, teach the class as a sub-in for a day. They use MAC's though and I don't know too much about MAC skinning.

The one or 4 PC's they have are really for other media items. I still think they will let me teach the class IF they see the potential of skinning.

I hope to be able to afford one by mid-next year so I can go around to PC shops and freelance work for custom PC's. there is a shop around my way and I was thinking of going in there without showing them what exactly what I am talking about. I don't think it will work because more people see it as "eye candy".

Now that I am talking about it, I remember that I formed a whole idea around this... a few shops around my way and beyond could learn a thing or two with skinning, but I really need a laptop to show them.

One day...

My brother thinks I'm crazy for wanting to skin my computer. He's one of those that wants a lean, mean, clean machine.

My husband is having to put up with me running into the room telling him about this really cool theme, suite, skin, or whatever that I've just seen.

I'm not even going to try to talk to my sister or her husband about skinning a computer.

My wife justs stares at the new layout, thinks for a second, curses and demands to know where I've put the buttons this time

oh!! Been there done that! Had to get hubby his own puter because of exactly that!

jafo I'd have to disown all my relatives as none of them understands that there is more to the look of a computer than what gates' company put there.

people have been beta testing netscape for years and years, not to mention icq, aim, and of course winzip, among countless others, for free, with no complaints.can't see how that would have anything to do with finding people in your area who know what skinning is and enjoy skinning their computers..
guess you just felt the need to hijack a fun thread. and it worked swimmingly well.

What I find truly interesting are those people that claim to be really into computers, but then you show them a skin or DX theme and they're like: 'Yeah, is that all???'

Go figure.

PC, keep in mind that that is part of the charm and purpose of this website. Here you will find plenty of friends to talk "shop" with, and, they're just as passoinate and excited about skinning and theming as you are.

I live north of Charlotte (think Dale Earnhardt home). I get the same responses when I try to show someone a Skin, they look at me like im talking about porno.

I dont know (personally) anyone around me that has or uses ANY skins on anything. not DesktopX, not WindowsBlinds, some use the WMP Skins, but thats about it.

I'd love to be able to TALK to someone about my skins, but its such a strange world (no offence people, but look at your icons, and pics on your home pages!) wierd nicknames, wierd images, strange titles to things, all kinds or strange crud.

Maybe we need to start local Skinners Users Groups, meet at a STRIP Join LOL (KIDDING!), can you imagine the flyers:

ATTENTION ALL SKINNERS
BRING YOUR LAPTOP, AND MEET AT THE IHOP @I-85!
SHOW OFF YOUR LATEST SKINS
TUTORIALS ON BASIC SKINNING
HOW TO PORT A SKIN TO A NEW PLATFORM
NEW SKINNERS WElCOME

LOL, can you imagine the people that would show up for that one?

BTW: I LOVE DesktopX and how easy it is to make Widgets I'm hooked on that one!

Let me know when you want to have the first "Charlotte Area Skinners Users Group Meeting"

I noticed that a few of you are from the Carolinas. I'm in Charleston, South Carolina myself. Love skinning. Maybe we need to have locales on our profiles so we can meet up at the I-Hop. I met Brainiac in Texas last month.
