The monitor move icons that DIsplay Fusion multi monitor app creates are only inconsistently appearing now. Issue might have started about same time I installed Stardock Object Desktop, and activated Start 11. Previously I ran Fences 4 and CursorFX. To eliminate any of the Stardock apps, do i rerun Object and select uninstall one by one? Len

example: MS Teams supposedly is pinned to the bottom taskbar, but like a bunch other apps such as OneNote, Word, Excel etc. there is no icon for them on the taskbar. if one clicks on the up carrot to the left of the tool tray, there are a bunch of apps showing there, but not Teams, Word, Excel etc. Used to be w Win 10 that if I "unpinned" and then "pinned" i could see the shortcut icon. But not with Win 11. <img src="https://cdn.stardock.us/forums/68/96/68967
1. on all my 4 Win 11 machines, i can't find the overflow area for shortcuts not shown on the taskbar. end up searching for them most of the time. sometimes the tool tray icons work as a substitute. 2. and how does one enable the feature to display full list of choices instead of hittingh more+?
was able to resize horizontally or vertically fine until about twenty minutes ago. Now I can't. Might be same time that sorting within specific fences by name stopped sorting additions to that fence, if that throws any light on the cause. Haven't rebooted or installed any new app etc. I'll try rebooting.
Got it. Works well. Probably words would have been a bit clearer to me: "right click on the specific Fence title. Select "sort fence by" then selecte "name". only odditity, is that after the initial sort if i move an icon to that fence out of order, it won't auto reorder. if i repeat the sorting steps, stays out of order. no biggee.
before i select "sort by name" 1. you're saying that sorts within existing fences? 2. how to undo the sorting?
restoring the snapshot restored the missing fence with it's icons.
after restoring snapshot, and maybe it was that way before restoring, I noticed that when I drag a fence, to another position on the same monitor, only a few of the icon move with the fence. The others remain behind and have to be dragged one by one. btw, is there a way to alphabetize by default all the icons within all my manually created fences?
On my clean Win 11 install, somehow one particularly large fence disappeared. Disabling Desktop Pages and then rebooting did not bring them back. They show in File Manager in the desktop folder. Double clicking on the desktop made no difference. Was able to restore a snapshot.
Ah, apparently that synching via business one drive is what I stumbled onto without trying because several days ago every document and icon from every desktop for same windows/365 user started synching. 1. That's ok but how did I enable that function? 2. Will that make it maybe possible to restore Fences layout to different workstations by copying the Fences backup with desired layout snapshot to the target machine? 3. maybe unrelated question: if I want t
Different question: if i install Display Fusion on Win 10 business preview build, is it likely to cause problems saving and restoring using Fences?
OK, I shouldn't expect icons shortcuts to local apps or docs which don't exist in the identical paths on new machine would even get restored. But shouldn't the icons that were HTML docs with normal URLs have come over to new pc if I do a clean install of Fences on the target machine, exit Fences. The
i'm not expecting icons doc shortcuts to local apps or docs which don't exist in the identical paths on new machine would work but would expect them to show up as white/blanks. Most of the icons were HTML docs with normal URLs. very few of them came over. since Fences 3 wouldn't even restore properly on the original machine, i'd think it wouldn't export ok either \
did as instructed on the original machinre, aka Berinie6new, ran the uninstall util, installed latest Fences, but wouldn't restore correctly. So I restored a full image backup. Now I'm trying to copy the icons and fences to a different machine, aka Corsair. Same 2 monitors, display card same resolution but instead of Nvidia 2080 it's a 3080. On source machine, aka Bernie6new made a snapshot and put a copy of the backup folder on OneDrive. ins
Will that procedure erase the stored layouts?
fences 3.0.9.11 windows ver 10.0.19043 bld 19043 Nvidia studio driver was completely removed and reinstalled w latest 30.0.14.7111 RTX 2080 Ti Rebooting doesn't help. Doesnt even seem to save currently modified layout
Ah, that explains why new icons usually want to the same folder. Have created a dedicated new fence for this. Thank you muchly.
Basj, imagine you have a hundred desktop shortcuts across three monitors. You add a new shortcut but can't find it. Usually, but not always it goes to a sort of default fence. Then i drag it to where I want it. it's when it doesn't go to the default fence that I find it easier open file explorer, desktop, sort by date, delete, than back to desktop and created. Is there a way via File Explore to move a shortcut to a specific fence? <
sometimes i add or move an icon but just can't find it among a hundred other ones on three monitors. I can see it via File Explorer in the desktop folder. any tips on finding which fenced section it resides in?
Basj, thank you for quick response. But the recommendation to remove Display Fusion, Nvia util, is not feasible. I've used those with Fences for 3 years on various monitors including the current ones wo problem. Was always able to restore snaps until now. there are substitutes for Fences, not as good but usable. There are no substitutes for good multi monitor utils. Any other thoughts?
Fences gets confused often now. I don't lose the fences, but they all crowd on to the main monitor. Restoring good saved snapshots doesn't fix the problem. I have to manually drag the fenced groups to the other monitors. Sometimes the screens go crazy with icons moving around. Have to sign out and back in.
AngelS, fix for me was to move some of my fences to one of the other extended desktop monitors. After doing that, the missing fences appeared on the first screen. Been stable ever since. Turn off autohide when double clicking. That was way too slow to be of any use. My question remains: Question: is there a reg key setting to increase the number of saved daily snapshots to more than 3?
Just after I posted the above, I moved some of my fences off the primary cloned monitor to extended monitor no. 1. Voila the missing fence for stamps.com reappeared on the primary monitor. I guess there's no warning when you have too many fences on a single monitor in this situation. That still leaves the other icons that I'll have to manually paste on the Fences desktop. Question: is there a reg key setting to increase the number of daily snapshots to m
Should have mentioned: all 4 monitors are identica 4k 27 inch Dells Ultrasharp. Monitor Display Arrangement is 3/4cloned and extended to 1 and 2. All set to same resolution. Size is 175% Video card is Nvidia QuardroP4000 upto date driver. Fences icon size: Medium Answer to your questions: 1. When I disabled Fences all the icons and shortcuts and folders that File Explorer shows in my desktop folder do display on the Fesktop. 2. yes unsel
Win 10 1802, multi monitors, Fences Ver 3.09.11 Yes I use Display Fusion and have Nvidia Nview installed but never use it. Turned off pages. I can see all my desktop shortcuts in File Explorer but they don't show on my desktop any more. No other problems at all. Correct me on this: the only fix is to make a backup of current snapshots, purge Fences, and then restore an old fence pre problem? (ps you should remove th
