when i disabled OneDrive synching desktop to cloud, the desktop icons remained on the desktop. When I made an image backup of the machine, the desktop was saved. Then I did a clean install of Win 11 and allowed OneDrive to synch the cloud desktop down to the local machine. Then i disabled synching desktop to cloud. The icons remained. Next I copied the contents of the image backup of drive c, folder that contained Fences snapshots. Enabled Fences. picked

Win 11 pro, latest version, not Beta or Early release 10.0.22621 Build 22621 Fences 4.12 I have image backups of my machine before i did a clean reinstall of Win 11. Profile names unchanged on at least some, maybe most of the backups of old machine, the desktop was getting synched OneDrive cloud. When I first started new windows, logged into OneDrive those desktop icons came down. Then i disabled desktop synching. Next i started F
OD synching of desktop is currently disabled. Not unlinked but not running. But after I reinstalled fresh windows, OD synching with desktop saving to cloud was enabled. That's where the current ones came from. Are you saying that if i look at the properties of the current ones, that they'll reference OD? or that they just wont work for fences for another reason. Their properties look normal. and icons look good. if i were always previously synching my desktop to cl
a variation on the above failed: newly installed windows 11 which brought down from OneDrive cloud the desktop icons of the prior machine, most of which existed when my old Fences layout was backed up and stored in a OD folder that I can access. The icons look the way they should. I restored the old layout but only empty fences with titles appeared and a few icons. Clicking made no difference. Rebooting no change. I then used File Explorer to copy a
Worked perfectly. Might even give me a way to deleting zillions of old snapshots. Would I just sort that folder by date and then delete? or would I first have to make a copy of it elsewhere, then uninstall Fences, then install, then copy and paste the most recent items back before restoring one?
as expected my win 11 profiles got wiped out when I moved from active directory windows server network to Azure only. apparently my desktop icons were getting backed up in the cloud before I switched to azure and have come back down. But not the Fences configuration. No change to profile name/path Have backups of old user profile folder. Anything I can copy from backup of profile folder to new one to restore my fences?
still showing WBlinds update on my Win 11 pro biz beta machines but not my standard release Win 11 machines. But now it's doing the same persistent update indicator on WStart11 on one of two Win pro biz beta machines. 22H2 22623.1028 Experience pack 1000.22638.1000.0 The other beta machine just displays blank next to WS11 and update next to WB. That machine is 22H2 22000.1281 Experience Pack 1000.22000.1281.0
any eta on that server side fix so i can stop trying to update and rebooting until it's working.
understood. how will i know that there's actually a possible fix when WB11 always shows "update" ? Or will this be an update to Object itself?
after uninstalling via Objects, WindowsBlind11, uninstall and rebooting: WB11 no longer appears in Ctrl Panel, Programs But it still shows in Objects as "Update" and I get a message about unable to auto update. I'll try one more time to update. This time it switches to installing WB11. Will try it one last time and then I'll ask how to completely manually kill WB11 for now.
WindowsBlind11 today when i open Objects, WindowsBlind11 shows "update" I click on it, it finishes wo error and prompts me to reboot I reboot, repen Objects. WindowsBlind11 still shows "update" I'll try it again.
install completed after this error SetACL.exe Windows cannot find SetACL.ex. Make sure you typed the name correctly , and then try again win 11 10.0.22623 22623 22H2 22621 220506-12250 Winblind 11 011 x64

On the same Win 11 machine, several business beta releases later still getting the two odd behaviors: 1. after rebooting, when I click n the start button, I often but not always have to hit on "back" in upper right to show pinned items. T 2. often I have to hit the start button twice to show all the pinned items. no such issues on the other win 11 machine with same beta build. win ver 10.0.22623 22623 Start11 1..321 How would i up
for example, Outlook i have pinned to Start 11 but about 1/3 of the time it's not showing. I initially thought it had gotten unpinned, but if I add it, and then click on started, I see two Outlook shortcuts. Another odd behavior, is that sometimes I have to hit the "back" icon to get to see pinned items and sometimes I dont. Win11 build 22622 Start11 1.25

I changed back to Modern and increased grid to 8 columns, and increased shortcut max. Tried compact. Still doesn't display that shortcut. I'll just use Windows 11 style, seems least fussy. Do most users chose Windows 11 style?
doing as instructed by changing Start11 to "Windows 11 style" I have the "pin to Start11" choice and I can do so. Keeping Windows 11 style, I can click on start and execute "tax help software" fine. If I switch Start11 back to Modern, I can no longer see "tax help software". Could be that I have too many pinned items. But on the Windows 11, Start 11 screen there are only 30 pinned items including "tax help software" the last one. F
please post a screen shot, because when I left click anywhere in the Start Menu which is configured to be the Start 11 start menu, I only get "configure Start 11"
yes the app starts when i left click on the shortcut pinned to the Windows start menu.
there's an option to pin it to the Start Menu, which i just now did. Do I have to disable Start 11 to see the built in Windows start menu? to see if it appears there?
Didn't work. Shows as a shortcut in File Explorer already. Copied it to the location you specified. But "pin to Start 11" still does not appear. (btw, it always could be pinned to the Windows shortcut taskbar)
if i search for the local app, right click on it, select "open file location", the highlighted item is "Tax Help Software.appref-ms" without the quotation marks. Win 11, build 10.0.22622 Start 1.25
Thank you for pointing out that about OneDrive storing Desktop. I went to office.com, OD, recycle bin, and found a bunch of desktop icons all deleted one day ago. Restored them, restored Fences snapshot that showed all of them, and i'm good now. No idea why the icons got deleted. Re deleting, i see what you're describing now. But I have a lot to manually delete. Any way to make it easy to just keep say last 15?
Similar issue. w 4.0.5.21 win 11 10.0.22622 But in my case, the missing icons might don't show in File Explorer, Desktop But do show in the snapshot I restore. A. if something deleted the shortcuts, I don't supposed restoring a Fence snapshot would help? B. how can i delete some old snapshots? I have some going back 4 years
