I upgraded a baseline window 8 to windows 8.1 and after installing the latest version of windowblinds, when I try to apply a style, it tells me that windowsblinds is not installed correctly. When I tell it to fix the installation, it hangs fort awhile but does nothing as far as I can tell.

Problems with Version 8 on Windows 8 Pro x64 1. If you do set the color for a skin, windows explorer background is black with unreadable text. 2. Most of the included skins have color issues with either Internet Explorer 10 or the Control panel. For example, Precision produces whit on white Internet explorer menu text and some produce white on white control panel text. I tried the beta and it does the same thing.

Even amoung supported software and hardware configurations, it is possible for a software product not to work or not to work as designed so it always makes sense to try before you buy. I would also check out the product forum prior to trying/buying any software product. It has also been posted here the timeframe for the beta Windows 8 version of WindowBlinds for those who want to wait before buying the subscription just to be sure.

I have not used Tiles, but that might be something to look at. I would also check out DisplayFusion and compare and contrast it's functionality with Tiles/Fences. I use Fences and Display Fusion. Also if you need a good file manager to replace Windows Explorer, I would recommend XYExplorer.

It is not unreasonable for utility programs to have to be reworked with new releases of an operating systems and honestly a beta version of Deskscapes being out in less then 2 months after Windows 8 being out is pretty good in my book. As was stated in another post here, you get a free updates of the product for 1 year as oposed to having to pay for the Windows 8 version after buying the Windows 7 version.

On your W7 Home Premium/W8 Pro, is it 32 or 64 bit?

The only thing I would add is to also target Office 365 Home Premium since it's going to be the defacto way to get office.

Control panel crashed after reboot so I ran the diag program and sent it back to Aaron. Hopefully there will be some good info in it to help resolve the issue.

That makes sense.

Aaron sent me a link to SDSupportTool.exe to run so it will collect info on my system. Should I run it now or the next time Explorer crashes. I just reinstalled Fences on a previous image of my system so Explorer has not crashed yet.

I am going to wait a bit after booting to check windows updates and see if that has any effect. I also will add a shotcutcut for wuapp.exe and then add that to a fence and see what happens. My normal routine is to check for updates even before checking my email.

I have sent the crash info to support@stardock.com . I will assume I didn't need to open a new ticket and referenced the existing one. I keep the fences hidden unless I click on the desktop. For those who have the crash issue, do you also do this. I also only have once fence.

Aa suggest in another thread, I set Fences to run in admin mode and I also remove the Files and Folder fence (my idea) aand 2 desktop.ini files that were placed on the desktop by some program. Hopefully the problem will go away.
