Eh - none of the reviews I've seen even touch on what I consider to be the biggest flaw of the game, which is that making troops is often a really poor decision. This is what is the disconnect between Heroes and cities, I feel - your Sov and Champs do everything and your cities are only there to support the gold and mana the heroes need, which feels shallow. If I could adjust it (maybe I can - haven't looked in), practically everything would cost 25% less to build, regul

While 1 essence can boost material by casting Enchanted Hammer, forests and riverside provide more bonus, imho.
It depends - essence has a geometric increase properties. So 1 essence isn't really all that great, but 2 essence is, because the same spell will often get you better increases (enchanted hammers is NOT one of those spells). Meditation, for examp

It's not actually what is going on, the score the tile is telling you is the sum of all the adjoining tiles. So when you see a tile that says 4/3/2, it is adding up all th

Go to the game options and turn off "Auto Turn", which ends your turn as soon as the game things you've got nothing left to do. It's especially annoying when you have units stationed in cities with movement points left because the game thinks that these units are supposed to just sit there.

Hell I'm just trying to figure out how to paint fertile lands on the map. A modding wiki would be great at this point. There's so much I want to mod - I'm no strnager to XML but XML isn't all the modding I want to do

I think it took me a while to realize how badly the unrest situation that occurs in practically every city you build was affecting production. The fact that it's very hard to connect cities without spamming pioneers just to get rid of the 15% unrest doesn't help, but I was surprised that I could not set taxes to anything less than 40% without setting it to 0%. Maybe I missed something, but seriously, is the math too hard or something. Many times when I get a Hero with the

My only frustration comes from the 15% unrest that comes with not being connected to the capital, which often is simply because there are no spots to settle that after a ZOC update for each still won't connect them. And of course, to correct the problem, you need more pioneers to spam outposts which btw, will take longer because of the 15% penalty to construction.

The worst is Emnity. I have to check the XML if it's really rare because it shows up all the freaking time. There are simply too many traits that are not good. It'd be much more fun if there was always a difficult choice of good traits rather than what it is now, which is on some paths often simply picking what's either necessary or not awful.
I'm having a difficult time with this game, because no matter what map size I choose, I have a very hard time keeping up with the enemy, because they all have several cities, and I (no matter how long and tirelessly I search) can't find any damn spots to build cities, only outposts. The problem is that I have very small things being build/trained/produced because (if I'm lucky) I'll only have found one extra spot I can

The only ability that ever showed up was the "+5 defense when defending," which doesn't do much unless your defender just sits there. I'm sure there's more to it, just haven't gotten the luck roll. I guess you just load them up with armor and have them sit in the middle of t
Quoting Lord Xia, reply 6I don't think you understand some of the game mechanics. All cities have default defenders. They are unarmored militia with the best one handed weapons you can create. The bigger and more advanced a city is, the more defenders it naturally has. Uh....gonna call bullshit on that. The bandits walked in and the city dissappeared. No unarmed "defau

I would pick warriors a lot more if I knew eventually they'd get to sweep. I'm working on m

Don't just mouse-over. Click, then look to your left. Mouse-over tips aren't very detailed in this game - probably because there are so many details. They are available.

Ophidians, Obsinian Golems and Ashwake Dragons will eat you for lunch. The first two are immune to magic and the latter is immune to fire damage and is not an Elemental. I'm guessing your sovereign avoided these like the plague.

They simulate the quest (rolling the dice) and they aren't allowed to go on tons of quests like you humans are! And they don't get to save games. What you're seeing is the tirene taking out a battleship roll. Blame old man Paxton for letting the AI go get dragons from quests or what have you. XML controls whether the AI is allowed to go on quests. I just take

They need to be able to do the quests at realistic power levels. To me it would be better if the AI didn't make a roll at all with the quests; rather, the AI would automatically succeed in a quest when it has a strong enough army and attempts

As it is, it's totally unusable. I checked, and yes, it actually loads if you exit the game . Nice feature. Starting Locations seem to be totally uneditable. Due to the awesome saving mechanism, I have some in the middle of the ocean which can't be removed by any means. Tile modifications (which BTW, seems to be the way to add essence) only show up after reloading. Which is great because of course that means exiting
