Maybe producing settlers uses a population point, and that coupled with making certain buildings only available at certain populations would slow down expansion.

If you want to limit early game pioneer spam, just make building a pioneer drain 20-30 population from the town it got built in.
I would support this as well. Anything to reduce pioneer spam. Hell, anything to reduce city spam in general. I hate having a ton of cities, but the

Awesome!!! I really can not wait for release on this stuff!!! Do monsters still raze the city on turn 1, or does it take them at least a few turns? Here are my favorite AI fixes: AI + Fixed bug where AI knowledge trading didn't always reduce tradeable knowledge + Fixed but that caused AI to disproportionately choose the first level up perk (like Assassin) <span

If you encounter uber AI, check out their amount of knowledge available for trade in the diplomacy options and make sure they don't have 100 times more knowledge than you do. The AI has a bug with the amount of research they do and get from trade.
Broadly speaking I agree (although it isn't the buggiest game I have played, just too buggy). I've said this quite a few times, FE needed/needs much more polishing and bug fixing before it is anywhere near its true potential. However it appears Stardock, or at least Frogboy, disagree on the degree of the problem, based on several comments from them and the fact they released FE at a point which I think was way too early.[/quo

I see complaints about the AI that were specifically addressed in the release notes in 1.1. I never see AI cities left weakly defended anymore, for instance. If you want to complain about the AI then at least make sure you're actually playing the current games. It stinks of bellyaching to the point of sound

I would not be suprised if the people who are being attacked by the AI using full stacks and good troops are experiencing the research trade bug. The only time the AI actually attacked me properly is when they had 10,000 or 20,000 research knowledge and probably had almost every tech researched in the very early game. If you are getting attacked and such try and trade with some of the AI you are at peace with and check out how many research points they have available for tra

Seems different to me, people were talking about ai giving away "knowledge" points to each other and ending up with more points then giving away, but on my screen i see that ai is generating huge amount of research points somehow. Maybe they make multiple research agreements with eac

Prince is not comparable to challenging. Challenging is like one or two steps above Prince. Prince is "normal". Also, the CIV5 AI on prince can take cities. In FE, the "normal" AI is a non-factor. The neutral monsters pose more of a threat than any of the AI, at least in the first bit of the game, and then it is just a grind to win the game without any challenges what-so-ever. I would go as far to say the same about challenging as well.

AI has about 5 cities, so he has to make about 300 research points in each town.
It is not normal, it is the bug everyone is discussing in this thread...he was joking with you...
Can someone name a land based game similar to this that has a better AI? I'd really like to hear it. HOMM VI? Warlock? MOM? Civilization V? Other than Galactic Civilizations, which doesn't have magic, I can't think of one. I can't win above Hard on a typical map. If you really want the best challenge, IMO, you really need to play as each player and design lots of units. This game's A

I changed that percentage to zero for now either way, but have not had the motivation to start another game at this point. Need another patch. I also read a post by FrogBoy that an expansion is due out in February on the CivFanatic's forums (I am at work so I can't access Civ Fanatic's forums right now to confirm it was February, but I know it was soon).

IMO, the AI is one of the weakest parts of the game at the moment. If the AI & diplomacy were improved substantially, and then some of the bugs and other minor UI improvements were made, the game would be fantastic. Right now though, watching the AI play has made me not want to play anymore. I guess I could play on the hardest difficulty, but I prefer to play with AI that are on an equal footing, or at least a similar footing, and play well without having insane bonuses.
