Try adding exceptions in or disabling temporarily any security/firewall software you may have, as it's possible it may be interfering with the game. If all else fails, feel free to use the Bat Signal: support@stardock.com

As long as you log into Impulse using the same info that you log into the forums with, you should be good as far as that goes. You'll need to create an IronClad Online account (which you can do in-game), but you'll need your serial. You can get it by right clicking on the game in Impulse and selecting 'View Registration', and from there, you can copy it to the clipboard. Once you have your ICO account set up, you should be good to go. (If you opened a support ticket,

Send an email to support@stardock.com and we'll get you straightened out.
You can hide an application in Impulse by right clicking on it, and selecting 'Hide application'. From there, the only way to see them again is to check the 'Show hidden applications' option. If you want to go nuclear, send an email to support@stardock.com and we can manually deactivate the registrations (though the first option will be quicker).
Unfortunately, there are no standalone patches for Sins, but you can download the full, already patched game here: http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/ Just log in with your Impulse account, and you'll be able to download installation files for the most recent version of any Stardock title. You can then transfer those files to your other computer, and install it.
How it turns out will depend upon how the betas go IMO. I hope that there is not too much influence from things like WoW (although take the good and leave the bad). Also in such a large game, there can be a tendancy to get tooooo technical, which I must admitt I generally dont mind, but I think that that can sometimes reduce the general enjoyment of a game.
I remember reading (I can't find where, but it I'm sure it happene
Looking forward to your playoff beard, Gargabee!
Another archive option would be Impulse Anywhere: http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/ Log in with your Impulse account, and you can download standalone installer files for Stardock games. -Ue_Carbon's option is totally feasible, but you'll need Impulse installed to restore it. The Anywhere option includes Impulse in the installer files, so that's everything you'll need.

Make sure your video card drivers are up to date. Sometimes, the default drivers that Windows loads don't detect well in a lot of programs, and the ones straight from nvidia sometimes have better luck.
Verkinix: I'm not sure why your settings get reset, but you can try backing up your settings files before you update, just as a precaution. In Vista/7, they're in C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting and unfortunately I don't have XP at home, so if you need that, let me know, and I can look it up when I get to work tomorrow. As for the lobby, I'd recommend contacting support@ironcladgames.com for help with that, as they're the keepers
The 243MB update was to add the Battle Tactics expansion. I'm not sure why it redownloaded the whole thing again, but as long as everything works, and it doesn't do it again, I'd call it an isolated fluke. If it keeps acting up, shoot support@stardock.com an email.

Hopefully we can get it straightened out for you, though.

I believe we just added more people to the beta today, so make sure you have the 'Show pre-release versions' option selected (it's in the main Impulse menu (blue button, upper left)), and it should show up. If it still doesn't, and restarting Impulse doesn't help, give support@stardock.com a shout.
This is actually true of pretty much every Stardock program, just in case there was something else you were thinking of getting. CCleaner shouldn't be necessary, just a reboot after uninstalling both versions.
MoN0X1D3: Send the file to rosco@stardock.com with your ticket ID in the subject line, and I'll try and get you sorted out.
It's possible something is wrong with the settings file/folder. In Vista/7 it's located here: C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting I don't have an XP machine at home, but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in Local Settings\Ironclad Games or something like that (I'll look it up when I get to work tomorrow morning, but in the meantime, anyone know where it is, exactly?). The settings file is diplomacy.user.setting, so try d
