Off line Activation NOT working

I am having some serious problems here.  I bought Sins of a Solar Empire (Game of the Year Edition) and was unable to use it because I am not on-line.  I have a friend that Is net connected, but the bitter irony is my friends computer CAN'T handle this game though mine can.  Still it was not a total loss as I was told beforehand that the entire game could be downloaded as long as the registration code on the back of the manual was used.  I went to a friends and spent the entire day downloading all of the so-called Off Line installation files and took them home with me expecting to be able to finally play the game.  Now that I have jumped through all the hoops with the "registration request" and "registration response" files, I am getting a message saying:

Problem Loading Activation Data File:

The Path is not of a Legal Form:

THIS Has got to be the BIGGEST bunch of crap I have ever seen.  I have spent hours jumping through hoops, inputing codes which came with the game, and moving the so called "registration response" file to every folder I have and this is what I get?!!??  WHAT is going on??  Some help getting this thing to work would be much appreciated. (or a least the number to a legal rep. to file a official complaint)

Fair enough.  I understand it gets frustrating when things don't go right.  Hopefully we can get it straightened out for you, though.
