Oh boy, you're gonna rile some women now with that sexist comment.

Any women without a sense of humor have already been offended by the wallpaper I would think.
Just harmless fun ladies. Please take it that way.

hehe...  Well, people should get to enjoy what they like as long as it doesn't harm anyone.  I'm glad that there is a lot of diversity here, in humor and politics and art appreciation.  It would be a preeeeeety bland world otherwise.

hehe...  I think we should celebrate diversity, embrace laughter, and respect one another.

WC is doing fine in all respects.

I got a notice that the message board was down, so I sent another...

Erm... it might be a good idea for an admin to remove that link. Although I don't believe there's anything improper about the daily shot, certain other images on that site aren't exactly child-friendly.

Well...I think that wallpaper should be banned! It is probably responsible for all the sexual abuse in the world and is corrupting our children. What is this world coming to!? I think we need to form a group fashioned after the Warren Commission to tackle this abusive wallpaper and maybe even get the gun lobbyist involved! And it comes in colors as well! Cool! Uh...I mean...thats terrible!

Sheesh...anyone offended by that wallpaper needs a huge life enema! It's a cartoon for gods sake...and even if it wasn't.

to be honest ..its actually not a bad screen images fit well together ...the wall.. ive seen worse on tv. now it is as close to borderline as id want to get .. but since theres no depictions of sexual acts. and no nudity .. i see no reason why it shouldnt be allowed ...

To be honest, the girl on the wallpaper does nothing for me. I just don't like animes. I don't know what's supposed to be attractive about HUGE eyes and a tiny tiny mouth. Dunno. I find it just as attractive as if she had a third eye in the middle of her forehead.

I think she should be totally nude, and her clothes should be done with DX. The screenshot would look the same, but..err...ummmm

hehe

I'm with paxx on this one.  I have an issue with 'anime' depiction of women as the clear intent is to make them 'cute and young'....where the issue is with the depiction of 'young'.

The idea is to show pre-pubescent girls with 'post pubescent' developed body-form, ie, breasts.

This is often 'excused' as a stylistic 'foreign' artform and besides...it's a cartoon.

Fritz The Cat was a cartoon, too.

Several 'anime' images have not made it to public display here as they crossed the line of 'sexual depiction of a minor'.

This one gets though but don't expect that all anime will....

I could understand it if the wallpaper was depicting something explicitly sexual or suggestive, but it's a harmless cartoon. Quite frankly, I find it more disturbing that a harmless cartoon such as that bothers anyone, and this is even a topic for discussion.

Oh wait!...did I see a hidden message in there somewhere!? And what is she doing with that mouse?!?! Someone call Tipper Gore!! Call Pat Robertson!! Oh my god!!...Impure thoughts impure thoughts!!! I should be flogged!!!

I was wanting to say something about the *It's just a cartoon* statement.  This is just a general thought.

As far as I know, any behavior that is considered to be of the porn or soft porn variety in real life is likewise considered to be so when depicted artistically in sketches, cartoon or otherwise.  Real model or not.

From memory, this came about because it was recognized that pedophiles would lure their victims with gifts, including cartoonized soft porn.  They then would apply peer pressure by proxy (of sorts) by convincing the kids that since their parents let them have cartoon then their parents would not care if they had these special cartoons  and since the cartoons were posing or acting certain ways then the kids shouldn't feel funny doing the same thing.  It was all ok because it was the cartoons and cartoons were something that the kids were allowed.

I think that this is something to be aware of when evaluating cartoon art.  While most of it is OK, some of it has been put to some dirty use.

I am certainly not saying that this particular piece is wrong.  I am just suggesting that there is a lot more to this issue in general than one might think, and if some people have qualms about it it they may have reasons that aren't immediatly clear.

I recall posting something of this nature once upon a time here, and got (if I remember correctly) almost the exact same response...

...And although my 'views' have changed (shifted slightly more to the 'center') since that 'episode of yore', Im with GM on this one...
Not offended personally, but Im sure there 'could' be some who 'might' be...

Oh wait!...did I see a hidden message in there somewhere!? And what is she doing with that mouse?!?! Someone call Tipper Gore!! Call Pat Robertson!! Oh my god!!...Impure thoughts impure thoughts!!! I should be flogged!!!

Anyone seen the Chobits Anime? That pic reminds me of that for some reason...

Personally as an adult I am not bothered by this pic on this site, Frogboy has said the site is PG13 or whatever. I would have issue though with my children seeing it used as a background, as a previous poster stated that he had with his children... It's not that the picture itself is incredibly bad, but anything like this being displayed on my computer where my children or anyone elses could see it gives it some sort of credibility and validity beyond just a cartoon.
I think that often we don't think of the peripheral impact of things we do or take for granted. Children in decision forming years (and by that I mean teenagers as well) are impacted hugely but also subconsciously by the things around them. Often that means that I choose not to act, talk, think, do things a certain way, not because I think it has a bad inpact on me neccesarily, but also has an impact on those around me who maybe are a little more vulnerable to my own perceptions of the world.

All this of course is beside the point because my kids may not ever even want to view this site, and most of the people here are adult enough that they probably wouldn't have given the picture a look without this forum post or an interest in the art behind the wall itself.
