mail system in the movie euro trip

In the movie when he gets mail there is a mail screensaver and the computer talks to him, has anyone seen that?

This may be a dumb question but is there a mail service like that?

I don't about the movie DW, but I have incredimail which uses what they call notifiers

http://www.incredimail.com/english/gallery.asp?typeId=5

these, depending on which you choose, will appear on your desktop and 'speak to you'.

Jafo is a naughty admin who has suddenly become aware of the dangers inherent in DWatson finding this new toy. I know - it is a frightening prospect

However in fairness taken from the incredimail site

Is IncrediMail spyware?

No, it is not. IncrediMail does not install any PC surveillance tools, capture keystrokes, log your communications, etc. Our business and revenue model has nothing to do with using your personal information in a harmful or deceitful manner. In fact, the IncrediMail team is adamantly against that kind of behavior and therefore, does not violate the privacy policy and agreement with our customers.

Does IncrediMail install anything else other than IncrediMail products on users' computers?

Absolutely not. The only software installed on any user's computer is IncrediMail and its supplementary program, the Letter Creator. IncrediMail does not install any third-party software.

Will IncrediMail provide my personal information to third parties?

Absolutely not. We are committed to making IncrediMail users feel safe and comfortable when sending/receiving e-mail. Therefore, IncrediMail does not and will not provide user's personal identifiable information it has collected to any third party (including advertisers and direct marketers) without the user's permission. IncrediMail may on occasion share usage information for statistical purposes in aggregate anonymous (non-personally identifiable) form, with advertisers or other third parties.

Will I receive spam from IncrediMail?

No. When you register to IncrediMail you are asked if you would like to receive email updates and IncrediMail special offers. Only users that install IncrediMail with the indication that they would like to receive updates will receive the IncrediMail Newsletter and other special updates. In addition, each email from IncrediMail includes an "unsubscribe" option, thus allowing you to halt your subscription at any time. IncrediMail does not collect users' personal information and use it to send advertisements and other unsolicited mail.

I think users of the free edition get the incredimail tag line at the bottom of e-mails but thats about all.

My plan was to keep DWatson so busy playing with settings and downloading images that it will be days if not weeks before the words 'you've got mail' appear again

Journeyman what mail service do you have it set to check?

Eh... fair enough... I like pressing those buttons

what mail service do you have it set to check?
I tried to set it to yahoo, didn't work, tried hotmail, didn't work either

Darn, an unforeseen downside - help i'm being dragged into a vortex of my own making.

I configure it with my Yahoo mail - if you check out the FAQ section on incredimail you shouldn't have any problems working it out. Saying that, and here I know I'm asking for trouble, post again if you have any specific problem and I'll see what I can do.

DWatson - think you were an unfortunate victim of a cross post there. Both Yahoo and Incredimail have clear instructions on setting your profile up. Double check and triple check your settings then tell me whats happening:).

IncrediMail does not collect users' personal information

IncrediMail may on occasion share usage information for statistical purposes

IncrediMail does not and will not provide user's personal identifiable information it has collected

Come on, guys....let's keep our disclaimers consistent, otherwise someone may smell a rat.....

I can't remember the exact detail now but where the account setting requires that you tick the box that your server requires authentification - try unchecking it if its checked.. Cross check your Yahoo account settings with the advice on the 'Yahoo mail' page.

Totally re-edited this one. I think its how you personally define spyware and what you are willing to tolerate against the gain. Anything you do in this country - all e-mails, and your mobile phone calls that are within the range of GCHQ are electronically monitored. I guess if the firm tells you what its doing with respect to stuff, its not spying and the link Jafo provides is to what comes off to me as being a 3rd rate site that should have borrowed someone's spellchecker

As long as the authorities never put together the link between my vaseline supplier and my fish costume I'll not worry too much about incredimail. Both spybot and ad-aware are reporting a totally clean system.

and Jafo - I knew you could be cruel - but to deny last night even happened :suprised:

OK...so that's one place I found it listed....and this is a legitimate Spyware proggy.....[was the only one that got me out of a drama....where Spybot was oblivious].

Now, it's mentioned here as a tracking cookie....which still classifies as 'spyware', certainly when combined with the lame disclaimers...

I'm sure I'll find other reference to the proggy as being an 'issue'....

All I can add, is that every time I ran ADAWARE it would list several parts to my Incredimail service.

...However, when running SpyBot it would not list anything from Incredimail.

I still uninstalled....better safe, then sorry

Darn cross posting

Its possible that way back when - it tried to put something on my system - but if it did then adaware or one of my other little cyber-soldiers fought back and kicked ass ( whoa testosterone surge )

You'll get both sides there....and Gosh...1 guy declared it CANNOT be spyware because SpyBot told him so.

Guy needs to stop listening to voices....

I have a feeling it is not as squeaky clean as some might propose....

and you said we had the place to ourselves and no one would ever know !

Sorry about erratic posting guys - got a little caught up with pre-work stuff - specifically getting my wife out of the front door before she hit me for using the pc before she'd even had a coffee

You could be right Jafo - what can I say if there ever was anything it wasn't very persistant - I have no system conflicts with it and I have a really neat e-mail facility - for me any trade off was worth it.

Ok, boy has checking this out ever been a roller-coaster ride through hell. My take on incredimail so far is if you don't need it, ain't interested in the extra's don't get it just to try out and remove again unless you're about to reformat or you've got a spare machine.

If you have my experience you have software that works perfectly and can be fun to play with (apart from once when I had to reconfigure a setting in reverse to that which was recommended - go figure). On that occasion I contacted customer support - it took them 2 days to reply but once I was in the loop we exchanged something like half a dozen e-mails until we cracked the problem - nice and polite no problem. I also contacted them recently to check on how whether it could be configured to use AVG by default - I got a full and useful answer the next day. In fairness I do have the premium/paid version and wouldn't necessarily expect the same for the free version.

Any adware/spyware has been taken care of by the usual proprietary means as far as I can tell.

It has never crashed this or my previous system (Dell Pentium 200 with 98SE) or caused any obvious hang up.

I can find sites that have very negative things to say - but thats true of all mass use software. I think it fair to say they do like to leave a big footprint some people say for them its buggy and they clearly do collect non-attributable info as stated in the EULA. Ultimately I think its a love it or hate it piece of software - personally I love it and for me it works perfectly. Some folks hate it equally as much.

I have seen the EULA described as being possible illegal in one place - to the best of my knowledge it is based on the requirements of the American legal framework and if that is the case then then the key thing for me is this:-

IncrediMail does not link IP addresses to any personally identifiable information, even if such information is voluntarily provided by a User.

As far as I know there is no proof anywhere that the creators/suppliers of incredimail are an out and out illegal site making massively fraudelent claims about their privacy policy in order to link your every movement with your name and address and sell the information to third parties. Basically if you want to be put off it forever I can provide links to do that - if you want to feel re-assured I can provide what I think are reputable links that'll do that too.

I'm very tired now - can I go out and play ?

Only edited cos I spelt proprietary wrong and I did't want to give Jafo an in with his spelchekker

As dearly as I would love to make this entire thread dissappear, and I do console myself that in time it will - I don't want to leave DWatson hanging, worried or disappointed.

So if you DW, are wanting to run it but are still struggling with some settings then feel free to post back and I'll help you if I can .

I don't use hotmail but this link which also refers to which information incredimail collects may be useful - unless I have been misled this is a reputable site that might clear things up a little.

http://email.about.com/cs/incredimailtips/qt/et063003.htm

If this isn't a reputable site then someone please post and say so.

In closing I'd like to say - where are the cows, I liked the cows - really I did
