New WC poll on new library next month

New WC poll on new library next month

I just noticed that WC is planning to add a new library next month. Some of the poll's choices for user input aren't surprising: Rainlendar, Trillian and even boot screens.

But there is also the option IE/Explorer Toolbar Icon Sets. Does anyone at WC/SD know if this is a reference to a specific app? Like Y'z Toolbar? Or something else? (I think I recall SD previously mentioned revamping WebBlinds but at present WebBlinds only changes the IE toolbar icons. So this also caused me to wonder if there are any plans for a new WebBlinds type app on SD's "to do" list or just it's just not on at all for the near future.)

I voted for IE/Explorer icons on the poll assuming this means using Y'z Toolbar. I feel with Y'z Toolbar you can attract users looking for new icons to download. At this site they will notice there are other programs that allow them to change the look of their desktop even more such as Cursor XP, Windowblinds, Objectbar, ect. They might take a look at these apps and decide to purchase one or more of these programs or become Object Desktop subscribers.

I also think it would be nice to be able to modify Explorer's toolbar to match the Windowblinds skin and Iconpackager icons I am using. Imagine having PixOS icons in Explorer's toolbar to match the PixOS theme instead of being stuck with XP looking toolbar icons.

According to SD in the second post of this thread, WindowBlinds 4.2 will have the ability to skin and use icons in IE and Windows Explorer toobars.

Out of curiosity, could an Admin tell me (us) the current results of the poll? The lines between Trillian and Rainlender are too close to tell...

An update on the poll:

Question:  Total votes: 1432
Answer 1:  486
Answer 2:  326
Answer 3:  227
Answer 4:  41
Answer 5:  213
Answer 6:  139

It appears that Rainlendar will not be added any time soon.  I'm actually amazed by the boot screens, I didn't think they were that popular.  Of course, they are closely followed by Toolbar icons, which isn't much of a surprise.  Hopefully the results of this poll will end the debate over how popular Rainlendar would be on this site.

Well, actually, Rainlendar isn't so unpopular in this poll. Samurize, yes, quite obviously.

But if you forget about the boot screens, which is very far ahead of all the others, there is not that much of a gap between the IE toolbar, Trillian and Rainlendar. The last two can be considered a tie, while the toolbar is more popular by only 33% or so. Not a huge lead.

The way I see it, the survey shows that Boot screen are the most popular, followed by a group of 3 apps: IE toolbars, Trillian and Rainlendar. Samurize is quite unpopular.

Yes, a meaningless statistic as always - the majority wins with 0.07% of the vote

Yes, but it has over twice the votes of Rainlendar.  You can bump around the "numbers" anyway you want, but out of 1432 votes only 213 were for Rainlendar.  So, 1219 were for a different choice.  I think that the longer you leave this up, the wider gap you will see in the lead (this is based on the growth of votes in the past 4 days).

I guess the biggest point that will be made over this poll is that people are pretty much happy with the libraries the way they are.  This poll has been up for quite some time and less than 1500 people voted.

Hum? Toolbar has 326 and Rainlendar has 213. That's not over twice the votes (?)...

out of 1432 votes only 213 were for Rainlendar.

Maybe so, but then only 326 out of 1432 were for the toolbar icons. When the votes are spread in 6 answers, of course each one has only a small portion of the votes.

Anyway, if Rainy isn't gonna be added that's fine, but I don't think the votes should be a reason for it.

Anyway I votes for Trillian. But I would still like to see a Trillian, AND a Rainlendar section added. The toolbar, as I said before could be a subsection of WB.

Fuzzy.....lies, damn lies and statistics.....the number is 0.198%....Spell checker
Reply #94 Top
Jafo, it's a well known fact that 78.5% of statistics are made up on the spot...

Besides, when I did maths 486/720000*100=0.0675 ***RASPBERRY***

With 486 being the 'majority' (hehehe) and the rest minorities...(see 'first past the post') Of course, turnout was a poor 0.198%....

oops, I meant that boot screens (which is the one in first place) has over twice as many votes.

If it were up to me, I wouldn't add anything Just more to moderate.  But, there are other sites that have thousands (not hundreds) of boot screens on them, so I guess they must be popular.  Not sure I would use them unless they had an added feature, though.  Of course, you could make a pretty good package with a boot screen, logon, Winstyle and whatever else you use.

Fuzzy...therin lies the rub....my calc was the number of voters divided by the total members....and an even more interesting stat would be to exclude the non-voters as they cannot be counted for obvious reasons...and divide the votes for one proggy by the total number of voters....a far more legitimate stat.....but like politicians....they are full of lies....

'therin' is the type of typo you see just as you hit submit.....

Statistics can be made to mean anything. You have ten voters and the question is " Do you prefer apples or oranges?" Three people vote for apples and one votes for oranges. Six didn't vote because they don't like either and prefer strawberries. Apples won the vote but more people in total prefered strawberries.

Of course in some circumstances (if you were cynical) you could suspect the orange had already been chosen regardless of the result

Personally, I prefer lemons
