New WC poll on new library next month

New WC poll on new library next month

I just noticed that WC is planning to add a new library next month. Some of the poll's choices for user input aren't surprising: Rainlendar, Trillian and even boot screens.

But there is also the option IE/Explorer Toolbar Icon Sets. Does anyone at WC/SD know if this is a reference to a specific app? Like Y'z Toolbar? Or something else? (I think I recall SD previously mentioned revamping WebBlinds but at present WebBlinds only changes the IE toolbar icons. So this also caused me to wonder if there are any plans for a new WebBlinds type app on SD's "to do" list or just it's just not on at all for the near future.)

Not sure about the boot screens... isn't that a hack?

Rainy, that's my vote. Samurize?? what is that?!?? Never heard of it until just now.

IE Toolbar icons sounds cool but if it comes with windowblinds then it should just be in that section (just check off EI toolbar icon when in the WB section)

Trillian... I don't know about that one... I think the IM's should be left alone.

3DNA, yes! Its only going to get more popular as machines get more powerful.

Anyway, didn't I say Rainy already?

Kona, i have to disagree, i feel DX2 is here to stay and it is slowly evolving. The way i see it is that it is new to a lot of people and fairly radical in places and people take time to adapt or take on changes. In its current form we will have to see if it really takes off but only time will tell. It maybe that DX2 evolves into something quite different from what you see now.

Since I am the kind of guy who uses NOTHING for skinning his system other than iconpager, I will shut up now. I like the Microsoft look most of the time. Anything else makes me dizzy.

Could have sworn we had a rainlendar thread a few days ago. Thought it had a lot of people supporting it. Must have been mistaken as the poll doesn't reflect that.Hum. Must have been a lot of talk or had nothing better to do so they piled on the thread.

Anyway, I voted for Rainlendar.

As did I.

OK, so here what to do:
Get rid of ICQ Plus, which isn't much used anymore, and bring in Trillian instead. Then ad a Rainlendar section.

Then just put the toolbar icon as a subsection of Windowblinds. Voila! All 3 apps!

that a very, VERY good idea. and then those who come here for rainy will see also the section for DX and WB and get hooked!

paxx...Try telling that to all the skinners that spent countless hours skinning ICQ...

Sorry, but we are removing all your work...Thanks anyways

Zodiaq, I understand, and I was partially joking. But seriously though, lets look at a few numbers.

ICQ Plus Uploads for the year 2003:
January: 1 skin
February: 1 skin
March: 4 skins
April: none
May: none
June: 6 skins (4 of which are the same skin in different colours)
July: none
August: 1 skin (shows two, just it's the same one submited twice)
September: 6 skins ( 3 of which is the same skin in different colours)
Total number of skins uploaded this year: 19 from 10 different authors

I voted for Rainlender. Boot Screens are a waste of a category...even if they win...WinCustomize wouldn't add it as a section. So why put it up?
I think the problem with the boot screens is that people are mistaking them for logon's. Someone might want to clarify the diffence.

and that is why they are getting lots of votes...

Bah to boot screens...How many people here care how it looks, or actually look at it, or boot their computer often enough to care? Yes, well, I voted for toolbar icons. Love that Y'z Toolbar. Personally, I have to try Rainlendar. Is it just a desktop calendar? Anything that doesn't say (c)Microsoft on it is in my book. The Admins will make the best decision anyway, even if it isn't one we like...

yes it is a calender that you can set up appointments, to do lists, birthdays, ect on. look at my SS I use it everyday.

Oh and it is NOT microsoft related in any way.

paxx...I hear ya

Seems in another thread somewhere Jafo and/or Frogboy said 'removing' any existing section wasn't really an option. So I would imagine it would stay even with the low uploads/downloads.

btw...Thanks for the numbers...I had no idea they were that low

Kona, is there lead in the paint that you eat or what?

WindowBlinds and DesktopX don't compete.

Secondly: There were SIX poll choices. All but 1 involved people who used DesktopX.

Now, stay with me here okay Kona because statistics seem to give you a real problem:

There were six choices. 782 votes. 285 people said they don't plan to use DesktopX 2. That was the biggest single vote getter. But that's only because the other nearly 500 people who do use DesktopX had their vote split 5 ways.

So it was actualy 500 people using DesktopX in various ways and 285 people who said they would not be using it.

So get this through your head, Kona: DesktopX is very popular.

Here is the Download.com stats on desktop enhancements:

Most Popular
Week ending October 05

 1. Say the Time
62,597 downloads
 2. WindowBlinds
19,847 downloads
 3. DesktopX
15,238 downloads
 4. Matrix Code Emulator Screensaver
12,312 downloads
 5.

CursorXP
11,564 downloads

(Say The Time got a big mention last week, normally it's not in the top 5 at dl.com)

It may not be popular with you but you're not a typical user.  Also, since you haven't ever created a skin, don't have a subscription, and haven't purchased any of the programs and (sorry to say) make obnoxious posts on the forum, I would not consider it a good thing to put up a section that is likely to attract more people of your demographic.

That is what I have been trying to politely (before, now I'm past polite and into rude) trying to imply. That if this site became overrun by people who don't make skins and don't buy software and don't get subscriptions, we'd be up the creek.

That is why Rainlendar has me concerned. It isn't going to likely bring in new people to the site. Instead, exposure on WC is likely to make it very popular while possibly attracting people who won't contribute to the site but rather use up its resources.

Definitely Trillian

I don't know... it seems that the poll is neck and neck for Rainy and EI Toolbar icons.

No body ever talked about the toolbar icons before so I think when offered a choice some bolted the Rainy camp for Toolbar icons and other selections.

SPEAKING OF screensavers....

So its settled.

Windowblinds gets a new section for IE Toolbars, Rainy gets a whole new section, Boot screens get the boot, The new IM section is now open (From ICQ to Trillian and Yahoo!)

Yes, thank me later.

no comment to Brad. maybe if I send in my 20 bucks he will treat me with some kind of respect. After all, it was a opinion.
Trillian Altough I would have liked a XXCalc/XXLog section.
an uninformed and moronic opinion, bot a opinion none the less.

I had to say this:

There is alot more people worse than me on this site. Alot more. One of them being UzEE. So I gather from your posts you do not like me. I never said you had to. You didn't have to resort to being rude and crude. We are adults here! I used to be a troll but I have shaped up and tried to help people. I don't have all the answers like yrag or china but Lord forbid I actually make a skin. I know right now it will be rejected even if it was done by a GOOD artist and uploaded under my name. I will get a subsciption as soon as money is not so tight. Then no one can call me in so many words a freeloader anymore.

Rainy skins would be a nice addition I still believe. Give them a chance Brad. they have a place in the skinning world just like LiteStep and WB.
