What happened to skin Moderation Lately???

What happened to skin Moderation Lately???

Listen I can't skin worth a Sh--. But sheesh. Over the last few weeks I've had to rub my eyes and clean my glasses when checking out some of the new admissions here at Wincustomize. And what's up with all these wallpapers being posted here of all these glob, drippy, distorted, mucous, exploding, gumby shaped thingies. These are so overdone. And Wincustomize says "The finest collection of Wallpapers on the Internet!", I don't think so. One only has to go to >>>>> http://www.digitalblasphemy.com/ for that. Now before you all go getting your geco panties in a wad let it be known that I've been visiting Wincustomize since the beginning, I've purchased WinFX, WB, OB, many of the skin suites if not all and I was a Object Desktop subscriber since last year(plan on renewing next month). My intent is not to insult any of the skinners or Wincustomize. I just like great skins, walls etc. And for those who are going to tell me to leave... Uh Huh I'm gonna stay. I never said I didn't like it here, I just think things have gotten away from Wincustomize's original Sprirt. And for those of you who are gonna say what do you want for free. Sure I've downloaded skins for free, but I believe I've purchased every skin suite from Stardock/Wincustomize also from Pixtudio so I'm not a freeloader. Let's just watch the uploads people.
RANTING Done.

Frogboy i had no idea you felt that way.I think a lot of us feel that our walls are an integral part of our windowblinds.Putting the wall in the wb file tends to make for a huge file size.I would hope that any wallpaper created for a specific skin would make in.They are meant to compliment each other.

The DJ...That's strange

I have it right below the Max# of skins per page box.

I am also a level 4 user.

I guess this would explain skins poppin out of nowhere .

You know, when it reaches a certain rating, I see it. Always wondered about that.

Now why can't I change it.

If it wasn't for the Wallpaper section I wouldn't be here, the rest didn't mean much to me at the time

I don't understand the arguments about not including wallpapers in wb. Make a decent jpg in 1280 x 1024 (resizes well to lower resolutions)and that's it. It is not that space-consuming. And that way it will not be rejected.

And there you have it, a simple and logical answer...That should solve the problem

I.R., I think the point is....

The Wall download and submission section is provided as a value added feature that is here for those who do wish to partake of it.

But when everything is laid out, it is not the key reason nor is it at the core of the sites inception or continued existence.

At the point that it becomes an over bearing burden of contention, the value of the feature diminishes.

just mhpov...

Brad, your comment as clear and bold as you made it its totally un-ethical and uncalled for. Specially coming from the founder of Stardock and WC.
The majority of today skinners in this side did not start out as skinners, most of them started as regular wallpapers artist. When I join this site, my only contribution was wallpapers. I didnt know anything about skinning, but as time went on I started to experiment with Logons and then went on to skin window blinds and winamp.
So for you to say "We don't care if you guys submit wallpapers. Feel free to never ever submit anothre wallpaper ever again. As far as I'm concerned, the wallpaper section is a waste of space and bandwidth" Its a total lack of respect toward all the artists that contribute daily to this sites. As is a discouragement to new artist that are starting to create designs and upload them with hopes that one day they too will adquire the skills of skining. We do this out of our own will. We ask for nothing more than to be treated fairly in compensation for our devoted time on creating our designs.
But perhaps you and the staff here at WC does not share this view.
The Wallpaper section alone has the highest percentage of daily submission than any other section.
Now, if you consider that it's a waste of space, then why not remove it entirely from the site and save everyone the trouble and time of creating designs to share.
The way I see it, this post was made as a comment on the acceptance of the designs that have been submited lately and how the quality of the accepted work has diminish.

Maybe stardock should create a wallpaper designing type utility-then a wallpaper section wouldn"t be such a burden

Although slightly harsh in the way he put it, I think Brad's right to some extent. The primary reason for this site's creation was to fill a need for a site carrying skins, and only skins.

The wallpaper section was created as a courtesy out of requests from a number of users, and ever since has been a major problem for the site. If wallpapers are moderated too much, the moderators get hassle. If wallpapers aren't moderated enough, the moderators get hassle. It's a no-win situation, and I seriously believe the wallpaper section is coming to the end of its limited lifespan.

As for low quality skins making it through to the site, you should understand that the moderating standards for skins are much more lenient than those for wallpapers. This is a skin site, so the emphasis is on nurturing skinners from their first efforts through to the big leagues. Unlike wallpapers, which are a single image, skins require the creation of a huge number of different elements. It's very difficult to keep a high standard through every part of a skin, and many less-than-brilliant skins will make it to the site simply to receive constructive criticism and help from those who are more experienced and better placed to offer advice.

The bottom line is, if you don't like a skin or wallpaper, move on to the next and ignore it. It's not like you're being forced to look at and download every skin you see on the site, and in many ways the high percentage of low quality skins only help to highlight the true greats when they come along. Nobody ever claimed that this was a site only for the best skins, but rather a place to download skins of all types.

Given up on Wallpapers mainly for the reason its not that popular now, moved on to bigger and better things

Grayhaze, I totally agree with you on the comment about ‘move on to the next skin/design if you don’t like the previous one’ I am one to backup that comment 100%
But this is easy to do when you are merely a viewer. But it’s a little more complicated when you are contributor. Those of you who have felt this way at one point or another will agree with me on this; After spending hours on a design and uploading it and see it get rejected only to check the site five minutes later and see a 10 minutes render of a metallic sphere or torus got accepted, it kinds of serves as a ‘slap on the face’
Now, I don’t think anyone is making any comparison on wallpapers against skins. They are two totally different things. As far as ending the wallpaper section, well, that alone will eliminate half or more of the artists in this site.
You have to understand, not everyone has the knowledge of skinning or the money to purchase a skinning program or the time available to invest on the creation of a skin, since some skins can take days or even weeks. Wallpaper on the other hand are much easier to create and less time consuming.
This is just my opinion. I guess is up to WC to decide the fate of wallpapers and the artists to deal with the outcome.

What ever happens…. just keep designing.

c242,Zodiaq,IPlural,...those are all good points,I originally did put the wall in the wb file but a high quality jpg. can run half a mega byte easy and I was afraid it deter folks from dl'ing such a large file. And they only get 1 resolution. On the other hand offering multiple resolutions pushes 1 mb so i guess its catch 22.Just wish I didnt have to link offsite for the wall to my windowblind. It IS part of the skin.
Stick the wall on DA with a link. Don't forget the link or it may never be seen again
Reply #71 Top
Apocalypse....just one really quick comment.....'not everyone has the money to purchase a skinning program'....just to clarify....all my skinning has been done with nothing more than PSP and notepad....and if anyone is doing walls they will [should already] at least have PSP...and notepad comes with your flavour of Windows....
And it's exactly because 'walls are easier to create and less time consuming' that the section is moderated at all. 'I was bored' is a great motivation for submitting anything.....and when it takes longer to reject than it took to create...well, that's just plainly a waste of everyone's time and effort....
As for the wall section being an alternative to the inclusion of wallsd in WB skins.....infinitely more walls are submitted as stand-alone submidssions with no connection to any WB skin what so ever....

2 rogue 'd's in that one....Spell checker

I totally agree Apocalypse,... I cant get the quote thingy to work.
