I've gone from Windows 95 to Windows 8.1 (and Windows 10) and found that some problems are causing me to me to realized that not all solutions work for all matters. What I need to know is what programs go with with programs... I've gotten Windows 7 (on my desktop computer) that I had gone from Windows 10 but returned to Windows 7 as the programs aren't working correctly. On my laptop computer I went from Windows 7, to 8 then 8.1. Now I'm trying to

OK - it sounds interesting but I'm not sure if I should uninstall Stardock Central and then install the Object Desktop Manager. One of my issues with Stardock has been they aren't always clear regarding the use of one program over another. Sometimes they issue programs that appear to do the same thing (for example Theme Manager and My Colors) and then discontinue one without indicating the compatibility issues between the products. I'm afraid to

I've installed ObjectDock 2.1 on a couple of my machines - a desktop running Windows 7 and a laptop running Windows 8 (and using Start8, Fences and ModernMix as well...) I've noticed that when I click on the start menu icon it appears on the bottom left side in Windows 7 but directly over the start button icon on the QuickLaunch dock (in the middle of the screen) or under the start button icon on the Programs Tab. Is there any way to get the start menu to open in

I guess I can understand the confusion RedneckDude - I just don't think that DesktopX ever lived up to the potential it had. Having come along during the Windows 98 era, it represented a powerful tool to customize the desktop. However many people became confused when the Macintosh started seeing colorful widgets appear via Konfabulator (which later became Yahoo Widgets). These appeared to be far simpler for most people and when Apple incorporated a similar idea

While I've noted that MyColors works with Windows 7 there are few suites that actually look correct - they were designed for Windows XP and earlier and don't really take advantage of the look of Windows Vista/7 - it appears to be another situation where a great idea was passed by when a new version of the OS was developed. Look at the situation for Windows Gadgets - the sidebar was a major development for Vista, improved on in 7 and appears to be abandoned by Microsoft for the f

I decided to try this on my laptop as well but in this case I would COMPLETELY remove Impulse from the system since I didn't have ANY games installed (Stardock titles or 3rd party games installed thru Impulse/GameStop). I first uninstalled all of the desktop applications I could through Impulse (although WindowBlinds appeared as "available" instead of "installed" (which it was)). Then I rebooted the system, went to the Programs & Features control panel and noted which appl

A strange question. I recently renewed my Object Desktop subscription directly with Stardock instead of going to GameStop and using their "updated" version of Impulse. I uninstalled all of my Stardock software (not games) that I had previously maintained using Impulse and installed the new version of Stardock Central. When I downloaded all of the applications that came up using that program I noticed that several of the older programs were not installed (I'm assuming t

A return to Stardock Central - everything old is new again. As a user back from the Object Desktop for OS/2 days I'm happy to see that GameStop didn't completely take over the business from you. Hopefully I can use this instead of the old Impulse/GameStop Now application when my Object Desktop comes up for renewal. Will I have to maintain both accounts in order to have the games I originally purchased on Impulse (Galactic Civ I & II, Sins of a So

Based upon your experience I'm sticking with the classic Stardock Central application for now. The only MyColors theme I've purchased is the stand-alone version of the OSU desktop a year or so ago. I was incorrect about the version of Object Desktop that I'm running (it's OD 2007 not 2004 - that's what was printed on the first update CD I purchased). Obviously as a user of the program since OD 2000 I've been invested in the program (considering that means I've paid for a subscription for each

Thanks for the feedback - I suspected that one of these programs might be the cause of my difficulties. I'll remove InCD and disable the firewall/antispyware apps and give it another try.

I'm trying to reinstall Object Desktop to my freshly formatted Windows XP-based system. Have been a user of OD since I purchased the program back in 2001 and am installing from a 2004 snapshot. Updated SD Central to latest version and am in process of installing latest updates of OD components. This morning downloaded several newer versions of various components (still have to update WindowBlinds to version 5 (using 4) and Windows FX). Upon reboot my system freezes and I can't access the sta
