Ok, I get that, but the "are you sure" dialog disappears before I can click Yes. v2.51 *edit* There's a workaround if you encounter this. Fortunately the default is apparently yes so after a few attempts if I quickly pressed the enter key on the keyboard before the confirmation disappeared, I was able to delete the page.

The BSOD was a glitch - never repeated. Indeed, Windows 7 is quite stable. The record on one of mine is 312 days. Could have gone longer except a power outage depleted the UPS. I got around the 'not responding' issue I posed earlier by just letting it sit for a while. When I came back later the installer was ready. What's strange is that the elusive J181 build that presumably fixed the original load time issue is no where to be found. <
Worked in a VM, I probably just need to reboot or follow those removal instructions you shared earlier. I'm almost at the point to reverting to some shareware I used for years.
Is everyone back at work now - working on Fences 6? It's sketchy that your SELLING BETA software. But if I elected to try Fences 6, what are the chances of frequent updates since we're beta testing your software for free?
Yes, same system. I even let Fences itself download the update - same behavior. This worked before because I'd installed the 180 beta earlier only to find that the issue with lag was fixed in 181 - which I can not find. So I assumed the installers are trying to connect to some server that's down.
Maybe it does not matter, none of the installers work at the moment
I believe, the j181 build is the latest version
Where can I find that version? All the links here give me j180.
Glad to hear it's fixed. But now, V6 is tempting me - LOL. Think I'll put that in a VM for now and next time I have to reboot I'll do the purge and install the latest v5 on the main box. Can I assume v5 is OUT of Beta and 5.89 has the 'fix'?
Excellent improvements to Fences. Very intuitive controls and ease of arranging groups. Light years better in appearance and function over Fences 5. Well done! [e digicons]5*[/e] [e digicons][/e]
Intriguing screen shot. Did
Ok, got a Windows BSOD - unrelated to Fences - but since I had to reboot, I took the opportunity to install the update above. No difference - UNLESS I don't use Peek. I never paid much attention previously to whether I was using Peek or just revealing the icons via desktop click and launching from there. I suppose I've been using Peek all this time. Via Peek - same old delay, every time. Click on desktop to reveal hidden Fences, double click any program - in
Ok, yeah, Win+Space, I used that 99% of the time. Sometimes I'd just click on the desktop - because I had the hide setting enabled. So you're suggesting that the issue only occurs (or occurs most often) when the Peek feature is used to bring forward Fences? For me, I'm pretty sure my click-on-desktop method also had the delay, but I can't be absolutely certain. I did notice that I can't (with 5.04) get Win+Space to bring Fences "on-top". I thought that used t
How would you define peek being in use? Is that when - as shown in your video - another app has focus then you bring fences on-top and try to execute a shortcut? But when you just click the desktop to bring up fences, that's not considered "peek"?
I wasn't able to track down the randomness, but that video does show exactly what I was experiencing - before I went back to 5.04. Most times it would take that long to launch a program. But sometimes it would launch quickly. I guess I need to re-install in a VM, see if I can repro there. If I can, I'll just follow the beta releases in that VM until it gets fixed.
I seldom do this, but if you right click on a shortcut, do you see a delay then as well? I did. But I didn't care because I just never do that. I'm assuming this problem is not widespread since I've only seen a few post here about it.
I'm not sure about "peek" view. Most times I just click on the desktop to bring up Fences, then launch something. Otherwise Fences is always hidden.
I've had the same issue. Not sure that I tried 5.86. But reverting to 5.04 allowed double-clicking shortcuts to launch quickly again.
I gave up, went back to 5.04 - that version launches anything I double-click on instantly. Is there any way to turn off the reminder that wants me to install a new version to make my experience worse? Also, to be clear, I did keep track of and install new betas as they were posted. None of the updates helped.
Ok, unanticipated (and unrelated) BSOD so I took the opportunity to install 5.88 - we'll see how it goes. Because naturally after a fresh boot the delay issue is not going to manifest itself.
Ok, I'll try the beta in a few weeks then
I was just reading the release notes on the recent betas. I can't recall, is a reboot required after install? I typically reboot every 2-3 weeks because it takes so long to spool up everything - not just programs. Today was a reboot day so I'm not ready to do that again. I've not tried testing in a VM yet.
Yeah, it's pretty persistent. Can I just reinstall 5.04? Or did 5.5 update some structures/data that 5.04 can't understand? If 5.04 is an option, do I have to remove 5.5 first and do I loose my layout as a result?
1 - any application for which I have a shortcut for 2 - everything is local, nothing is mapped or referencing a network resource 3 - Nothing is on my desktop - well - maybe that's because of Fences. But launching from the Start menu is instant. Now this is interesting, I've never disabled Fences before. Initial panic as everything suddenly landed on my desktop - maybe that's normal. Anyway, I located Word on the desktop and it launched in 1/2 second.&nb
Hopefully some change in future releases will get double-click working as good as it was in 5.04. Overnight the problem returned. So some change in fences is causing this. If I start the same program from the start menu it loads right away.
Well, I'll have to keep watch over this. I didn't want to keep the settings suggested in the post I quoted above, so I changed it back to "Let Windows choose". Now double-click is working at usual, launching applications right away. Not really sure if that change/revert toggled/reset something in Fences or Windows to fix the problem. I reboot every few weeks so we'll see how it goes. <img src="https://cdn.stardock.us/forums/71/6/7106094/60482fe7-
The solution described here worked - https://forums.stardock.com/488632/finally-figured-out-sluggish-fences-icons-problem But the question is, why did 5.04 work fine and when i finally (regrettably) decided to update to 5.86 I encounter this new problem? Should have stayed on 5.04 I suppose. I forget now why I even decided to update.
