There's an unrealistic amount of planets in a solar system for the same reason there's unrealistic phase lanes keeping you from freely roam your fleet. It's all about reasonable gameplay. It would in fact make more sense to have a galaxy where solar systems are connected via phase lanes instead of a solar system with lots of planets. But a game can be groundbreaking only up to a point...

As long as it's optional, it's fine by me. Careful when you try to design something while in a hurry though. How about multiplayer? Maybe change the look of your ships before even starting a game (MMO character creation style)? Load your favorite designs from game to game? That would be interesting, but it's purely cosmetic and there's too much to do in real time already.
How would you manage your empire and design ships at the same time? This ain't a turn based game. That's actually the reason why we can't design ships. It doesn't seem feasible in real-time. However, there's always Galactic Civilizations II with plenty of ship designing! :)
Well done! ;) I also agree with the reviewer on some improvements to work upon, the following in particular: "It'd be nice to get a little more in-depth and continue the story begun in the game's opening cinematic. More importantly, a good campaign could help new players get over a pretty severe learning curve better than the hopelessly inadequate tutorials." The original Homeworld had an excellent campaign. SoSE has the potential to top it!
The lack of a campaign is sorely missed. The sandbox mode in single-player right of the bat feels like a downgrade to me. Although, within budget and time constraints, better to purchase a solid game than to buy a broken one with resources wasted on an interesting campaign. Hopefully future expansions will have that missed component. Considering single-player only, I understand that there are players quite happy with what the game as to offer right now, but I personally like the enterta
It seems to me that choosing a ratio between fighters and bombers to protect my planets, I would go for more bombers since they have more destructive power against most threats...
Phase inhibitors could be specific to a jump lane. Place one inhibitor in one lane and enemy ships will be slowed when trying to escape anywhere in that lane's area of effect. A player will still have to decide between tactical points available and the right lanes to inhibit...
I guess people at Stardock is pretty busy with another excellent release such as Sins of a Solar Empire turned out to be... :HOT: But how about the ultimate GalCiv2 expansion? Last I heard it was to be released at the beginning of this year... I actually have the beta, so I have things covered. But it would be nice to get my hands on the real deal, wouldn't it? :D
Again, I think it's rather wasteful for devs to go through many threads scattered throughout the forums and have players spamming about the great idea/suggestion everyone is already having, where we players could just continue expanding an already established thread in a focused forum. A single thread can easily get lost among the many posted everyday, while it gets confusing for the new poster (like me) to get through all the different subjects talked about already. I've been
My suggestion would be to have a full forum for game ideas and suggestions. Why not have all ideas and suggestions from player feedback focused in a single forum, instead of being scattered all over the place? It would be easier for the players to continue to expand a single thread, instead of spamming the forums with the same subject and easier for devs to cut through the information... Anyway, keep up the good work! :CONGRAT:
So, I pre-ordered the game, got my credit card charged and was able to make a very quick download - all good. But I noticed that now that the game is launched, the price is exactly the same... What happened to set the price a bit cheaper in pre-order? I pre-ordered the game after beta testing was closed. Was that the only advantage? I've been enjoying Stardock since 2003. As I recall from the GalCiv series, there was a perceivable price advantage to pre-order. If pre-ordering post-beta
Boy, you guys weren't kidding about the fast download speed! I happen to be working in China and things here get a bit slow when it comes to download stuff outside the country. I'm getting speeds of up to 1012Kb/s for downloading SINS (12kb/s is what I can get sometimes)! All done in less than 15 minutes. :D It also helped that I downloaded when almost no one here is using the internet (6:30am, before going to work). Just to be on the safe side, I hit the "download and archive
So, the information indicated in the recommended settings is redundant: System Requirements: Recommended - 2.2 GHz Dual- or Quad-Core Processor, 1 GB RAM (2 GB for Windows Vista), 256 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon X1600 / GeForce 7600 and above) If it doesn't make a difference, the "2.2 GHz Dual" reference should be enough... That can be found at the "STORE". EDIT: Anyway, for something more meaningful, SINS is a game that's being adver
Too bad then... I wonder when games will start taking advantage of this? BTW, thanks for the answer :)
I have a Quad Core CPU on my computer. Will SINS be able to take advantage of all four processors?
