Out of interest, just add any letter instead of 's' to the end. It could be that the full path and longest filename might be exceeding the default 255 characters that Windows has (but this can be changed to increase this limit). O n the assumption that perhaps a number of Windows updates might have sorted a few issues related to Fences, I ensured no Stardock entries were in the registry, and installed Fences again and accepting the default for creating fences. So far so good. No looping or errors. I did see that in the registry, <div style="box-sizing
@sean Drohan. Well, I think I have definitive proof as to the cause........ But first a bit of other background context.... If I turned my non-primary monitors on in a different sequence, Fences would place a portal on the 'wrong' screen. I.E. if a portal was on my right screen of 3, it would then appear on the left screen. So what I would do would to be to manually move the fences back and take a snapshot (and for the other 'correct' arrangement) so if I c
Update: The problem has resurfaced and I can definitely tell you what happened to make Fences fall over again. I have 3 monitors all via display port on an Nvidia GTX1080. If a monitor is is 'off' with no power to it, Windows seems to think there is no monitor attached at all. I recall with HDMI or DVI, a turned off monitor would still appear in the display settings - but not with Displayport. Today I switched my PC on and had forgotten to turn on my ma
Hi Sean, I have an update for you and I am not sure if it will be useful or not....... 1. Removing the old snapshots did not achieve anything. I installed Fences from the new 'clean' user profile and it was working fine in there, but on reverting back to my normal profile, the problem of Fences/Explorer hanging persisted. 2. I then decided to manually set up my new profile to give me the same apps/folders etc as my troublesome profile. This included s
I too had dropbox installed, but I disabled it, along with OneDrive (business and personal) and Google drive. But no joy. Fences would not install properly and hung Explorer. I ran the Fences_uninstall bat to clear it all, and selected "Remove Settings" as well and rebooted. Now interestingly I tried installing it again and although Explorer immediately hung and then restarted, the initial install flash screen appeared to which I selected I would add my own fences,

Hi Sean, Three things.... (1) The creation of a new user profile and install from that user account worked, but not my own - it still froze and Explorer stopped responding (2) Trying to set up all my apps in the new user profile is a nightmare with MS Office accounts for Outlook, OneDrive etc, so trying to use the new account was impossible. (3) I did a Windows 10 'in place' upgrade and kept my Apps and documents. Result: SUCCESS!! Fences 4 in
Well, I decided to stop a few apps one by one to see if I could find the culprit (including DisplayFusion, Open Shell, PowerToys). I could not find it. So I uninstalled Fences (and cleared the settings because when I installed Fences it would present previous fences) did a clean boot following the Microsoft instructions to run msconfig, disable all non-microsoft services, and then disabled all startup items in the Task Manager except for notifications. On a clean reboo
I wish I'd seen this thread before purchasing an upgrade to V4. I have DisplayFusion installed but an older version. Have had V3 installed for ages with no issues. When V4 installed I would get a rotating blue circle and Explorer becoming unresponsive. But only on one sign-on. The admin account was fine even though DisplayFusion was running in the background. Something else perhaps? Open Shell? The system would then terminate and reload Expl

Thanks. Not sure if it helps at this stage or not, but I've noticed that if the monitors are switched on 'out of sequence' for the additional #2 and #3 monitors, the monitor numbering sequence changes from the display settings (Identify) to the Colour Manageent monitors (Identify) in the Advanced settings. Where the former may show 3,1,2 the latter can show 2,1,3 and I've seen that Fences places the snapshot on the latter screen 'number' rather than the former. I had
I have 3 x monitors each with Displayport connections to an Nvidia GTX1080 running latest game ready drivers. Each is setup NOT to autoswitch source even though there is just the 1 x Displayport per monitor. I use 3 x screens for work, but when I game on my centre 'gaming' monitor, I power off the other monitors as I don;t need them and to save power. Windows detects that the monitors are no longer connected and Fences moves all the desktop Folders to the ac
Hi. Well, what I have found is unusual and I cannot figure out the logic behind what I have discovered. It appears that the path length of the folders is connected to the portal not showing on the desktop. And it doesn't appear to be affected as to whether the folder is empty or has files in it. I've also found that depending on the actual tree, the length of the path will change which affects whether a folder portal will remain. Example: </
Actually, it's not all folders. I'm doing some more investigation and I will report back.

Hi, Not sure when this happened, but I have an usual problem. I have three "pages" and use 3 monitors. I have several fences and folder portals across all three pages sitting on different screens. I can create a new folder portal on any of the pages but when I log back in again, the new portal is not there. I've created a new portal and then created a snapshot and I can see the new portal in the snapshot preview. However, when I restore the snapshot, the
I suggested this "enhancement" back in 2015 and it was thought to be a good idea. I haven't seen any notes to suggest this has been added yet! https://forums.stardock.com/460894/page/1/#3524944

Similar problem for me. If I open a "File Explorer" window then the Fences appear on the desktop, otherwise they remain hidden. This only happened after the last update.
If Fences could detect the different Surround vs Separate and associate a layout/snapshot that would be ideal. Or assign shortcut keystrokes to a snapshot name.
Yes. I have that setting set as the example. When I switch from "normal" 3xseparate monitors (with fences on each monitor) to surround mode, all the fences get scaled across the (now) single desktop which means scales across all three screens. If I do nothing and revert to the 3 x separate monitor mode, the fences do return to their correct size and position on the three monitors. However, if whilst in surround mode I arrange the fences (from a snapshot) &nb
I use three monitors. I frequently switch between nVidia Surround mode (5760x1200) and "normal" mode ( 3 monitors @ 1920x1200 each). Fences treats each mode as a different configuration/arrangement. Although I can use snapshots to re-arrange the Fences in each mode. it is a pain to have to Configure Fences and find the correct snapshot to use. Would it be possible for Fences to detect different monitor set ups and apply a default layout/snapshot/last used layout for
