Folder Portal problem

Fences no longer remembers any new folder portals

Hi,

Not sure when this happened, but I have an usual problem.  I have three "pages" and use 3 monitors.  I have several fences and folder portals across all three pages sitting on different screens.  I can create a new folder portal on any of the pages but when I log back in again, the new portal is not there.  I've created a new portal and then created a snapshot and I can see the new portal in the snapshot preview.  However, when I restore the snapshot, the new portal does not restore.  If I remove an "old" portal, and then perform the snapshot restore, the old portal does re-appear OK.

I've performed a "purge" and reinstall, but still the problem persists.

This behaviour does not happen on a new user profile.  However, as my main profile has so many configurations for both personal and work use, "moving" to a new profile is a non-starter.  Any other ideas/suggestions as to how to get Fences to remember a "new" portal?   As an "old" portal restores OK, I suspect there's a permission problem with the creation of a new portal.  Not sure how one would test for that.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need more information.

1) Windows version. Please use Winver.exe for full windows version numbers

2) Fences version.

3) The new portal fences pointing to a same folder or any folder?

Thank you,

Actually, it's not all folders.  I'm doing some more investigation and I will report back.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Fences will have some trouble showing the contents of (but should create) if a folder portal it to a network resource that is not available at boot / log in (either by timing or needs a VPN connected for the resource to be available).

Hi.

Well, what I have found is unusual and I cannot figure out the logic behind what I have discovered.

It appears that the path length of the folders is connected to the portal not showing on the desktop.  And it doesn't appear to be affected as to whether the folder is empty or has files in it.

I've also found that depending on the actual tree, the length of the path will change which affects whether a folder portal will remain.

Example:

Worked (129 characters) "C:\Users\Bob\OneDrive - Graduals Consulting\Visio Education\Ex_Files_Visio_2019_Essential_Training\Exercise Files\Chapter12345678" (This was an empty folder)

Did Not Work (130 characters) "C:\Users\Bob\OneDrive - Graduals Consulting\Visio Education\Ex_Files_Visio_2019_Essential_Training\Exercise Files\Chapter123456789" (This was an empty folder)

And yet another drive/path had different results:

Worked (108 characters) "E:\Users\Bob\Graduals Consulting\gradualsconsulting\Clients\ConcXXXXXX\Project Docs (Internal Use Only)12345" (This was an empty folder)

Did Not Work (109 characters) "E:\Users\Bob\Graduals Consulting\graduals\Clients\ConcXXXXXX\Project Docs (Internal Use Only)123456" (This was an empty folder)

To "test" my theory I created a folder on my HD and then made a portal on the desktop.  If it remained after a re-login, I'd change the name and add another character until such time the portal did not remain.

This issues happens on both my main profile and another "clean" profile.

This is driving me nuts!

Thanks
