There's a tactical threshold setting on the menu - it has no tooltip, but I'm assuming its the minimum number of units required to be in a fight before tactical combat is offered (the assumption being presumably that smaller combats aren't worth your time, which is usually true). Try lowering it early, then raising it later.

I think this may be causing issues for the AI, but regardless, the monster spawn rate is just totally out of whack later in the game Here's a very late game picture - this is with a Sovereign uber-stack that has 11+ movement for the entire stack, capable of killing ANY npc monster ai stack instantly in autoresolve The monsters will literally spawn faster than I

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the sovereign behavior right now. I was worried about this the instant they talked about in-game 'avatars', as they have huge balance issues One possibility would be that death causes banishment + essence loss, instead of simply dropping a single point of essence and putting you in the nearest city (a piddly loss, even early game). Losing your sovereign for some turns (possibly increasing with each death) would discouraging sovereign zerging. The 'total

Non aggression pacts allow free border travel, so it is possible that if two AI civs were hostile and a third was behind them, they never made contact In this case though, those other 'blocking' civs were killed (by me), and I wasn't attacking the other two, so there's no reason (other than the absurd rampaging hordes of monsters) that they couldn't have met up. By the end I was just hitting 'next turn', waiting to finish the spell of mastery research, since I was completing each of t

Because of the way the offense/defense system works in this game, you can have a lot of rounds of (extremely boring) 'Miss, Miss, Miss, Miss' going back and forth once unit defense levels start getting high. This has two problems, the first is a UI issue: the floating 'Miss' text dies not explain properly what is going on. This is exacerbated by the fact that even some spells can 'miss'. This needs a clearer explanation. Even floating text that says 'No Damage' and sh

In spite of some really annoying technical issues forcing me to play on the cloth map only due to awful fps, I've completed several games (win and lose) on various difficulty settings, so I thought I'd share a few very important points for the more experienced gamers out there looking for a challenge 1) There are TWO difficulty settings in Elemental, one controls, I believe, map difficulty, the other controls AI difficulty I can't actual

On Ridiculous map difficulty + all AI set to Ridiculous difficulty I've lost a few games I dropped it down to Hard/Hard and I'm winning a long slow boring game where no AI declares war on me. Next game I'll bump it up again and add more civs to crowd the map a bit more. The AI does seem to have the ability to play the game now, but it simply isn't aggressive enough - I'd imagine Normal is a boring and easy victory no matter how you play.

Throwing my hat in the ring C2D E6700 4 gigs of ram GTX 260 Vista Latest drivers (258.96) Don't have any issues with other 3d apps Fraps shows sub 10 fps when 3d view is enabled. I've pretty much just been playing on the cloth map - I tried turning down various graphical settings, but it didn't seem to make a difference. edit: to echo some oddness here, turn processing is lightning fast, it's purely

The game is basically unplayable unless I use the cloth map. The 1.0/1.01 builds were just as bad. System is a C2D E6700, GTX260, 4 gigs of ram, Vista, latest drivers etc. I can run Stalker or Starcraft 2 np, but Elemental is killing my PC :( I've tried various graphic options, but they don't seem to help.
One suggestion: have the starting equipement be purchased with a small gold pool instead of character creation points, and what is left of this pool is then added to the starting gold of the faction (maybe the base starting gold will need to be reduced slightly)
I like this idea, because it lets combat leaders get some gear, while caster/non combat heroes can invest in their starting cities more rapidly. A couple hours at most. It's not really a campaign, more like a brief intro/pseudo-tutorial to the game. Nothing really exciting, I'd hop right in the 'real' custom game.

'Miss' is a poor UI explanation for what's happening here. 'No Damage' and a visual indicator of the roll would help tell the player what's going on.

1) Is somewhat handled by expanding influence borders, which you can improve with research/city structures. The other obvious method is stationing sentries equipped with sight enhancing gear around your kingdom. 2) This isn't something you'll run into often, but it is an annoying bug. Should be easily fixable, just need to make resources not count against a city's tile limit 3) A high level research in the Adventure tree does create new shards on the map - I can't remember if

There's a cludgy workaround - let the newly taken minor city get razed by monsters, then rebuild your own city Seems obviously bugged, but you can use that method until they fix it

Really annoying bug/issue. When one of your cities levels up, it pops up the 'choose a specialization!' window, and you're forced to make a choice then and there. You can't look at the city, move the map, examine the benefits, etc. At the very least, it'd help if the forced popup window showed you what the benefits would provide for the specific city that has gained a level, but ideally, the screen should not lock you out of the interface. Particularly in large empires, I can't rememb

Nah, even on Ridiculous/Ridiculous difficulty, the AI doesn't do anything Wait for the day 0 patch, see if that fixes it. If not, it'll be a few weeks or months before the AI is up to scratch.

I've never uncovered elemental books from research. Possibly they can be acquired from high level quests? You can't - to (ab)use mana regen, imbue multiple heroes with essence, 'multiplying' your mana regen rate per turn. This is about the only good way to make use of tactical combat spells, otherwise you'll waste a ton of time waiting for your sovereign to regen. With 5-10 imbued heroes, you're regenerating 5-10 mp per turn.
