This one's kind of awkward. Windows 8.1 RTM MMix64 1.11 1) Open a Metro app as a desktop window. Make sure it's focused. I discovered this issue while I had the Music app focused. 2) Pull down from the top edge of the screen like you'd normally do to close a fullscreen Metro app or the Desktop. 3) Windows will behave as though the Metro app you had focused was fullscreen instead, so it will be like you're trying to drag-do

Update: it seems to have fixed itself. it was happening with irritating regularity the other day, and now it's just stopped. Haven't rebooted since then or anything. Either this was a total fluke or it's going to be a rather difficult bug to track down...
I disagree with the proposed change. The behavior of the Close button in an app should be consistent with the behavior of the Alt-F4 shortcut -- which, in the case of Metro apps, fully closes them. Furthermore, changing the behavior of the Close button depending on length of press creates unpredictable behavior -- unlike the grab-pull-wait gesture, for which Microsoft had freedom to do new things, there is already a precedent for how users expect the Close button to be used, and addin
Conveniently, my screenshotting tool logs running foreground applications, so I can tell you exactly what I had running at the time that shot was taken: iexplore explorer mirc Photoshop MMix_64 mirc is not actually installed (running from a portable drive) and I had Photoshop running only briefly after having just installed it. I believe the issue was occurring before that was installed, but I cannot say
Can confirm this same bug happening in the Mail app as well, when typing/selecting text/etc. May be tied to text inputs in general.
It seems that after you resize the window and it clears the blue away, you can continue to type without incident until you defocus and refocus the window, at which point you can repeat the bug. This is illustrated in the linked animation. I've also found that refocusing the window clears the blue color, and selecting/backspacing text will cause it to appear just as typing does. Animation shows the window in compact mode, but it happens regardless of window size. &n
1) Open a Skype chat with someone 2) Click in the textbox 3) Begin typing Window turns solid blue, until you resize it. Animation of the issue here: http://swe.bz/934b5f0ba301c3bd060257a10606fb6
Same issue here with Win8.1 RTM. Mail app in particular acts very strange. It works fine if you open it in fullscreen mode, then F10.
