I appreciate that and I'm not trying to advise anyone any different I just thought I'd let the user know what I found to be causing it (or at least what was for me) :)

I have this issue I'm also on the dev build (and I understand that's my issue) however after playing around with settings it's the custom start menu button icon that's causing the system tray to be blacked out.
