Actually, I've just remembered why I was using Start10. I had been using Start8 on W8 before I upgraded to W10 but felt I didn't need Start10 at the time. However (and I forget the exact details), I had problems with the W10 Start menu after a while - something to do with the W10 user profile, I think. I 'fixed' the problem (I don't think I could access the menu at all) by installing Start10. So it could well be that a similar (W10) problem has happened again even though it's all been wo

Thanks, Neil. The drive isn't showing any errors, but it's now running a full scan. Would it be worth trying to reinstall Start10 or would that be a waste of time?
That's weird. The style is set to Windows 10 style and that's what I get with Start10: here's a screenshot when I hover over the Start button and left-clicked - it says Start10.

I noticed a few days ago after a reboot that all the tiles (other than a few default ones) had disappeared from the Start screen and all programs in the list of apps are showing as 'New'. I've just re-booted again and had hoped it was a glitch on startup and that it would resolve itself but it hasn't changed. As far as I can tell, everything on the PC is OK and working - it's just Start10 (V1.53) that's gone wrong. I could go through and re-build the start screen but i
