Start screen tiles gone and all apps in program list showing as 'New'

I noticed a few days ago after a reboot that all the tiles (other than a few default ones) had disappeared from the Start screen and all programs in the list of apps are showing as 'New'.

I've just re-booted again and had hoped it was a glitch on startup and that it would resolve itself but it hasn't changed.

As far as I can tell, everything on the PC is OK and working - it's just Start10 (V1.53) that's gone wrong.

I could go through and re-build the start screen but is a way to revert Start10 that would bring them all back? Is there a profile file I might be able to retrieve from a backup that would fix this?

Anyone else had this issue?

Can you post a screenshot somewhere and link it here?

Thanks. Screenshot uploaded here.

I've just re-booted again to finish a W10 update, but no change to the Start screen.

That is not Start10.  That is the default Windows menu.

That's weird. The style is set to Windows 10 style and that's what I get with Start10: here's a screenshot when I hover over the Start button and left-clicked - it says Start10.

The Windows 10 menu option in Start10 simply shows the standard OS menu.

If that is showing everything flagged as new and lost your existing tiles I am afraid that would be an OS level glitch and is nothing to do with Start10.  Most likely it showed up when you rebooted and would have shown the next time you rebooted regardless with or without Start10.

I would recommend scanning your hard drive in case it is developing errors as a corrupted database could cause that.

Thanks, Neil. The drive isn't showing any errors, but it's now running a full scan.

Would it be worth trying to reinstall Start10 or would that be a waste of time?

Actually, I've just remembered why I was using Start10. I had been using Start8 on W8 before I upgraded to W10 but felt I didn't need Start10 at the time. However (and I forget the exact details), I had problems with the W10 Start menu after a while - something to do with the W10 user profile, I think. I 'fixed' the problem (I don't think I could access the menu at all) by installing Start10. So it could well be that a similar (W10) problem has happened again even though it's all been working OK for a few years.
