I understand your point Nesrie, often a companies collapse is a sudden one and no company has a folder sitting on a shelf labelled "In case of bankruptcy". However, I find it difficult to believe that a plan could not be formulated quickly. And despite what Newell said, I think the most likely situation is that the platform itself would be patched - Steam, for example - to remove th

MRDred got it right, especially regarding the over-the-top brutality and combat realism of DoW1. Think of it this way: Every other RTS game is about you taking turns slapping your opponents across the face with white gloves. DoW is about you and your opponents taking turns kicking each of other in the nuts until one of you doubles over and gets beheaded by a buzzing chain sword. Once you've experienced this, it's really hard to appreciate other RTS games as much.
@Golgoth Without question DoW1 is the best RTS game I've ever played. I still play skirmishes almost every weekend. Visit the DoW forums ( http://forums.relicnews.com/forumdisplay.php?f=90 ) and in particular check out the Adeptus Modificatus section for mods. The Dawn of Skirmish mod is a must for fun and challenging skirmishes (Relic is just not too good with AI), but there are a lot of other mods availa
An interesting list, but one that is very different from my own top 25. I am definitely glad to see Morrowind and Baldur's Gate 2 in the top 10, and I can see how 4 or 5 of the other games could be reasonably considered for the top 25. But there are some inclusions and omissions that just don't make sense, based on the original list of nominees. For example, no Unreal Tournament 2k4, Oblivion, Dawn of War, Rise of Nations, KotOR, GTA3? Seriously?
The only 2010 game that I plan to buy is W40K: Chaos Rising. I'll get this despite the Steam connection. If they come out in 2010 (and don't have overly restrictive DRM), I'll promptly get Hitman 5, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Arcania: A Gothic Tale. Due to restrictive DRM (for example, Steam, online activation for single-player mode, limited activations, etc.), I will not be getting once-anticipated games such as Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, and Alien vs. Predator.<
EDIT (just considering fighting games): Mortal Kombat 2: Never could get past Shao Khan on the PC version.
You see, the QoT is like the goofy looking white guy who's really good at hitting the 3 point shot in basketball. As long as he's playing with allstars, it doesn't matter that he can't handle the ball, play defense, rebound, etc. If he's on a mediocre team he should stay on the bench as much as possible.
So funny and so true! (you're getting some karma for that). I like QoT, play her a lot, and do not believe that she needs a major buff.
A bit on topic, the largest problem I have with Impulse, Steam, etc, is that you are made very aware that you are only buying a liscense for the game. You don't own the game. Before, you had a disk and could play the game whenever you'd like. Now DRM and restrictive means can loose your access to your games and have little recourse to ever play them again. IMO, this is the true nature of DRM, and pirating is just a flimsy excuse. If there's a poss
Every PC gamer should play the Diablo series, if only to say you've played it. It has a good mix of action and RPG elements. The Diablo battlechest is not worth the $40 that some places are still asking for it, but definitely about $25. I'm a big fan of Dawn of War 1, but not so much DoW2. If you can get DoW2 cheap (and don't mind Steam), then go for it. Or, even better, wait until March for the "Chaos Rising" standalone expansion. (Unfortunately, don't e

The modding forum is, indeed, lively. There's some good stuff available already. Any update regarding the next frontier: map support? I think that this is at least as important as the Occulus release (which I, of course, look forward to).

Just installed the dark-skinned queen with enhanced red flower. She looks beautiful in-game; sorta reminds me of Beyonce. Good work! +1 karma
Ptarth, Thanks for your very informative post and your creative work. I'm looking forward to the new queens. And for the folks who just can't imagine a queen of another color, please leave and stop trolling this thread. Don't discourage creativity or complain about a reskinned queen in a thread entitled "skinning QoT."
I wonder if setting the flag cap goal to grow at a crazy high number per second and setting the capture actions to reduce it a large amount will give it both a top priority goal and a top action to reduce a goal by the largest amount? Or i wonder if you(as an enemy) hang out at their portal if it is getting filtered out of its list of flags to capture. Maybe change the end of the capture action function to require > 1 or &g
The biggest issue that I have noticed with the modded AI is that AI demigods do not cap flags enough and thus often fall behind in warscore. I think that the mod makes them a bit more aggressive in doing this, but they really do need to be more conscious of the need to hold flags and build warscore. I play against the nightmare AI, so I am not as concerned about how the AI spends gold. It has plenty of resources from the beginning and can afford to buy good gear, consumables
To echo what silencer said, what's the issue with steam?
That's a fair enough question. First, let me say that I am happy for those people who like Steam. It indeed is a service that some believe contains benefits. However, I personally believe that the costs outweigh the benefits. Why, you might ask? 1. Steam is a purposeful attempt to kill the secondary (used) market in PC games. By

Ptarth: I want the same one that heavenlysynn wants (posts 6 & 16). Yes, the "reverse skunk" (whatever that means!). That'll work fine until you have a chance to perfect the model. Thanks! EDIT: Can you keep the goldish-orange wings?
No way. You can pre-order at Gamestop already I think. This game's going to be huge, multiplatform as well I think. They won't limit it to Steam.
I wish it were so, good man. On the PC, the game is integrated with Steam, like Dawn of War 2 and Empire: Total War. Doesn't matter where you preorder from, you'll get a "steam-powered" game.
morpheas, is there any other place to download this file from? I found the 2 links in the OP rather troublesome (I think that the mediafire one is broken). Thanks. Looks like a great mod. EDIT: Nevermind, I was able to get the mod at one of the listed sites. Will test it shortly.
The game looks great, and I thoroughly enjoyed AvP2. However, I think that AvP3 is a Steam exclusive, which is automatically a no-buy for me. A pity, really. Anyhow, here's hoping that "Aliens: Colonial Marines" gets made and is not locked down with Steam DRM and other dubious "services."
My nominations are: Morrowind Dawn of War (the first one) Baldur's Gate 2 Battle for Middle Earth 2 Grand Theft Auto 3 Rise of Nations (all except for Dawn of War [e digicons]o_O[/e] are already listed in the OP.)
It would be nice if someone from GPG or Stardock weighed in regarding ETA for the mapping capabilities. Although I am happy to see all of the new mods coming out, new maps are needed more than anything else.
Out of all of the games I've ever played, Demigod is one of only four that I've played online. I typically buy games for the single-player mode since I view gaming as a relaxing, casual affair. My biggest complaint against the gaming industry--especially RTS developers--is that it still doesn't take single-player campaigns and AI seriously enough. And the real sad part is that it is no mystery that most people who buy games never go online. You need only compare th
