Welcome back, Peppe! After being away for a while (and assuming that this thread was dead), I just happened to check in again today. I am very happy to see that work is continuing on this mod, especially the tournament AI. I still find (modded) Demigod quite fun offline, so I'll occasionally stop by for updates. Thanks to everyone for their work and feedback.
As a consumer, the best thing you can do is purchase games elsewhere. As a consumer, the worst thing you can do is request that new games be available through Steam (unless you like paying higher prices).
^This. It always amazes me that there are so many people who actually want their games locked down with Steam DRM and tied to a single account that may one day not be accessible to them.
The exclusivity complaint though....I really don't get that. That sounds more like whiny brand loyalty than a valid complaint. If Impulse had the numbers or the $$ to negotiate for those releases, they would have them. Complaining because Valve is more successful than Impulse and therefore you have to use their service to play X game....yeah. That sounds incredibly whiny. Calling it anti-trust sounds even more whiny.
IMO, I thi
While I am skeptical about this report, the idea seems to make sense. It's a way for Valve to get gamers like me (who detest Steam and its "one-user-per-license-only" DRM) to take a second look. Would I be more likely to buy a Steam digital game if I could "trade" it in for in-store credit? Probably not, since that would just get me more deeply tied to Steam and its game marketing system. Would I be more likely to buy a Steam digital game if I could "trade" i
I'm afraid that 4Nana is probably right. Demigod's beauty is also its curse. The fine graphical detail of the game does not lend itself to modding. It's not like sticking a new character in Heroes of Newerth or League of Legends. Also, the developer provided no modding tools or support--and from what I understand, the tools used to make the maps cost like $15K. GPG/Stardock did provide 2 new demigods, but even these took almost a year to produce. Finally,
-AI demigods will dynamically buy Armory and Blacksmith upgrades based on war rank, the creeps its team has, and the creeps that the enemy team has. By war rank 10, AI demigods will try to buy all Armory and Blacksmith upgrades. I don't think that's the best choice. A good rule of thumb is to get one level in Armory and Blacksmith by level for each player on your team In a 2v2 game, maxing
Looks pretty good. If there's a way to determine whether or not an AI is set to Nightmare (this might be somewhere in AIBrain, but I haven't checked), or better yet, how many are on a team, it might be worth re-introducing both death penalty I-II and gold II-III - both are brutally effective for a team full of nightmare AI.
I agree, miriyaka. Would you be willing to work this into the mod? If you would send me the
This mod (version .24) is the latest revision of Peppe's AI Skirmish mod ( http://forums.demigodthegame.com/369930 ). It further refines Peppe's excellent work by addressing a few outstanding issues. The mod is designed to make single-player skirmishes more challenging and enjoyable. (This version of the mod incorporates some of miriyaka's code for checking team status and upgrades, which makes the ga
Just a quick note to miriyaka: MANY, MANY thanks for the new code. I especially like the checks for enemy-team citadel upgrades and status. Makes the AI more "human-like" and dynamic (+1 karma). Now, if someone could figure out how to get all of this into the single-player tournament. I've had no luck doing this, even after spending about 3 days on it. There is some code for the single-player tournament and even reference to tournament (or "scena

Does anyone remember the old-school DRM where a game would actually require you to look up information in the manual ever so often to make sure you owned a legit copy? Just played some Master of Orion lately and had to smile when a pop-up required me to identify a certain ship o
Isn't online authentication considered a form of DRM? Mind, I'm fine with it, and prefer it much over the conventional methods like SecuROM, Starforce (I won't buy games with it), etc., but it's more DRM-y than, say, a plain DVD that can be freely copied.
I think so. Any system that ties your game to an account that either requires online authentication (thus dependence on a server) or kills resale value is DRM in my opi
One things I want to know, can you actually change the tournament AI? It's weird that nobody has done it, so is it possible?
This should be possible. The tournament does allow for UI mods so that you can see your allies' gear. I haven't figured it out yet, but the tournament AI should be moddable as well.
OK, I tried to reproduce Pacov's experience with Rook vs. Regulus in Nightmare 1v1 on Cataract. Regulus did exactly what Pacov experienced: almost no flag capturing and preoccupation with shooting towers. Very strange. So, I decided to try Rook against other demigods under same conditions (Nightmare, 1v1, Cataract). I played against Sedna, UB, and Erebus. All three went after the flags. By the end of the game, Sedna got 18 flags, Erebus had 21, and UB had 2
At this point, the mod is designed for team play and works best for 2v2 and larger teams (for clarity, I've inserted this in the description above). Since I never play 1v1, I haven't observed the AI's capping behavior under this condition. However, I am not surprised that a single AI player would lose the flag-capping race against a human player. The AI prioritizes portals, then whatever flags are nearest and random flags. On most maps, I have customized it to go after
I never bothered with the HoMM series before now, except the demo for no. 5, which I didn't care for. However, i am presently playing King's Bounty, which has been fun so far. Could someone briefly tell me the major differences between KB and HoMM5? The trailer for HoMM6 doesn't really tell much about the game. P.S. I had high hopes for Disciples 3. However, nearly every review I've read has been negative. Sigh.
This mod is a revised version of Peppe's AI Skirmish mod, version .22 ( http://forums.demigodthegame.com/369930 ). It further refines Peppe's excellent work by fixing a few outstanding issues. The mod is designed to make single-player skirmishes more challenging and enjoyable. Current Features (v .23): Teleporting: AI demigods will no longer teleport very short distances. De
Just hold tight, everyone. Some further improvements are on the way! I've been tweaking Peppe's mod for a few weeks and plan to release a substantial update either later today or tomorrow. It should really improve things like the AI's flag-capping routine and teleport logic (no more teleporting "5 feet away"). Additionally, I've customized the AI so that it prioritizes flag capping based on the flag layout of a particular map. So on Cataract, it will be preoccu
1) flags rarely end up contested against the AI - they cap them, port out / run away, and you recap them. of course AI will always be more predictable than human players, but jeez they could at least try to advance to another nearby flag, or chill and wait for a fight, or something. they shouldn't ever be porting back unless they actually need to shop or are badly wounded and have poor regen.
The failure to
Great write-up, louist. I never played D2 (just wasn't impressed by the demo), so D3 will be a new experience. Your impressions are indeed helpful. I'll wait to see what kind of reviews it gets after the N. American release. A demo would be nice.
Personally, I don't think Bioware quite understand what 'Dark Fantasy' means. Scantily clad women and blood on your characters doesn't make a bevy of RPG cliches instantly fresh and appealing. Dragon Age was a great game, it just wasn't the game it promised to be.
I agree. If you want "dark fantasy," I HIGHLY recommend Baldur's Gate 2 (plus Throne of Bhaal expansion). It's the game that Dragon
