When I go inside the forge, after the first battle, my sovereign ends up alone against a tonne of monsters. For this battle his maximum hp changes to ~500, but his initial hp stays, so I end up with something like 45/~500. And of course it's impossible to beat them like this. Maybe get healing spell, cast it on yourself for a few rounds, while they're getting closer, but even then, it's still seems almost impossible. It looks like some

War of Magic works for me on Windows 10. Just ran it, loaded a couple of saved games. I didn't do anything specific to make it work.
Not that it would be as efficient as Darlocks were in MoO, but yes, you can do that. Drath Legion is the race for you.

There is no waste. Although the game may mislead you to think that there is one. Yes, you, in theory, can spend 100% of your population for each of the two types of spending, resulting in a total of 200%. But the thing is — there's no way you could get more than a 100% of your population. So effectively there is no waste, since you don't have the other 100% in the first place. There is a reason the game was designed that way. And that is to give you more manageable economy — other
