Multiplicity Not Working at All

S: Platform: OS Name:    Microsoft Windows 11 Pro Version 10.0.26100 Build 26200.8875

Processor:    AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core Processor, 3401 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)

BaseBoard Product: ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI)

BIOS:              AMI 5021 9/29/24

RAM:               128 GB DDR4 1333 MHz G.Skill P/N: F4-3200C16-32GTZN

Multiplicity does not work on my system.  I have 3 computers.  One is my main machine (version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8875) and the other 2 are backups, which during the cold weather process work units for MilkeyWay@home and Einstein@Home.   The first of the backups has an old motherboard and Intel CPU on which only Windows 10 (version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.6466), BOINC and Multiplicity are installed.  When I try to access that computer from my main machine using Multiplicity, and when I click on the (native) start button, the UI freezes.  I have never been able to usefully access this computer with Multiplicity after many hours of trying.  The second backup has an only 2-year-old motherboard and AMD CPU, on which I run Windows 11, BOINC,  and Multiplicity.  If I give both my main computer and the remote the same password as the first backup has, the two computers can't connect because of a password problem.  If I give the main computer and the remote a unique password, again the two computers can't connect because of a password problem.  Multiplicity will not access the second computer no matter what I do after many hours of trying.  After I posted a message on this forum about the problem with Multiplicity and the first remote, many days later a user responded with a request for a screenshot.  A screenshot of what?  A blank desktop?  A frozen UI?  How do I make a screenshot when the UI is frozen?  I can't debug like this.  Does StarDock have a Windows 10 machine to which it can connect with Multiplicity?  Does StarDock have an Ethernet network of 3 or more machines on which Multiplicity can communicate with all?  I have read and re-read every Multiplicity instruction I can find, and still I can't make the program produce any useful results.  I believe that StarDock has done no testing of Multiplicity.  Physician heal thyself!

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience. Thank you.

While waiting we also need to know which Multiplicity version installed in all system. Full version number please.

Your point about Multiplicity version is well taken.  I have a less than most recent version  installed.  I should come up with the approximately $37 for the most recent version of Multiplicity before the support team puts much time into my complaints.  On the other hand, StarDock should consider giving me the update for free, since I have spent many, many hours trying to make the older version work, all to no positive effect.  Please respond.

Hi elliott.ch,

Your Multiplicity version number can be found by navigating to this location in file explorer:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Multiplicity

From there, right click on the file named MultiplicityConfig then select Properties.  Then, click the Details tab and note the File version.

Please do this on all PCs you are running Multiplicity on to ensure you have the same exact file version installed on each.

If you continue to have connection issues, please try the steps in guide:

After trying these steps, please let us know if the issue remains.  When doing so, please include the file version on all PCs and a complete description of what you have attempted.  Specific steps for how exactly to reproduce any issue or error are also always helpful.

Thanks for your reply.

Multiplicity (M) version is 4.0.7.2.

I already uninstalled that version of M, intending to install the free trial to see if new version cures all my problems.  However, boss stepped in and told me not to install trial.   Why, I don't know.  Is there something wrong with it?  That's my plan: Get the latest version and try to make that work.  There is no point in messing with an old version.

Thanks again for your help,

Charles Elliott
