Ok, thanks. Just out of curiosity, what's different about that skin, that causes that effect? Is there a way to tell SkinStudio "let's start with the way things are set up on my system right now" or do I have to start either 1) from an existing skin (besides MS Default) or 2) from scratch?

Indeed, SkinStudio doesn't come with the WindowsBlinds trial, so I sprung for the paid license. Now I need to figure out how to use "Microsoft Default" as the base to be edited with SkinStudio. Thanks for your help, everyone. David
Windows 8.1, Windowsblinds 8 trial. Skin is "Default Theme by Microsoft" and the substyle is the theme that I saved using Windows itself. When I click "Apply Style" all that happens is that Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization opens up. The only buttons on the right side of the Windowsblinds window are Style and Background. No Color button and no Texture button. But even if I choose a different skin that displays the Color button, I don't see how to change the font
