It's going to come in around 350MB last I heard. Does this mean that you could download the file using stardock central on one machine, copy the file to perhaps a 500MB usb thumb drive and then install the file on a different machine without using stardock central? I guess what I'm asking is if stardock central is needed for the download

Does anyone want to start a pool about how soon after DA is available before the first complaint is posted. I get dibs on one minute. I promise I won't make a single complaint for at least one week.

The game plays a song while loading? Never noticed. I guess that's because I don't have any speakers. Who wants sound on a PC anyway?

I'm pretty sure I saw several "SDC-only" statements from Stardock. Makes some sense, given that the beta is limited to pre-order folks. Yep. Oh well, that's pretty much what I thought. I guess I'll just wait till Feburary then. Anyway, at the rate my current game is progressing, I may be able to finish two v1.4 games before then.

D:If it makes anyone happy, i'll rewrite the post to make it seem less like a shameless plug. I wouldn't bother. The only time Wheel seems happy is when he's complaining. So, in that light, your initial post did indeed make him happy (I'd like to think I was just joking here, but I fear there's just too much truth in the statement).

I still think Iztok's comment that there wasn't sufficient information to truly answer the question turned out to be the best response. Actually, I had said that prior to noticing that SrGalen had specifically pointed out that the Terran BB's would be the first targeted and because of this picked the Iconians. He probably deserves the top credit for n

Does anyone know whether or not the Beta will be available via standalone installer? If not now then at any time before offical release?

I've seen this before. Primus is a strange star that strange things happen around. I've never had this star in any game that I've played, but there was a post about 3 or 4 months ago where someone posted a screenshot of a PQ56 that orbited Primus. I'm also of the impression that the highest normally occuring planet is a PQ26 that upgrades to a PQ32 once fully terraformed (or if you're neutral). Co

Take your astroturfing elsewhere. There seems to be more going on here than meets the eye. Not quite sure if I want to know what it is exactly.

He is "sneaky sneaky" with his economic starbases In a roundabout way this is correct. Economic starbases don't actually generate more income (except for trade which I don't bother with). Economic starbases can significantly (16 give you 384%) boost the military and research production of the planets in their influence area. I use these a *lot*. I get

I did notice that, and I'm not making excuses, but that still didn't quite explain the defensive and offensive distribution particularly with the effect of unknown levels of weapon and defense bonus. However, the fact that all information was not known was an obvious part of the question. I made the best guess I could using the information and tools at my disposal along with whatever assumptions I needed to fill in the gaps. When it turned out that my "educated" guess was incorrect, I w

There a many debates on what tactics to use and when to use them There's certainly a lot to discuss here, and the answer changes a lot at different times in the game. But if I had to pick only one thing to focus on that would be the most generally applicable, I would pick speed. If you have speed you can avoid battles that are unfavorable to you and s

As you say there is an ebb and flow, action and reaction to the type of ships built by the AI and the changes made by the human to counteract them. I've found that the most difficult thing to counteract is a strategy that uses a mixture of weapons types on different ships with an even distribution of all defense types on each ship. This usually makes me respond with an even distribution of defense on my ships as well. This means that I can’t devote a whole lot of hull space to overwhelm

Thanks, Kryo. Hope it helps someone out. The bonus percentages are from v1.2 and are now different but the required modules and the techs still should be correct.

Actually, I had to buy a graphics card to play the game. I only spent $90 (at the time) for a GeForce 5500. It does support full DirectX 9.0c but my frame rate is pretty low. I also have anti-aliasing turned down quite a bit. But I do get the planet lights and get decent textures on ships and suns when I infrequently zoom in that close. I think overall game performance is more limited by ram size than cpu frequency. I have 1GB of ram and I think my performance is reasonable even with *only* a 90

That's the best prediction I can give you from data you presented. Actually, it's not. This is a problem in modeling. It's true that an exact solution can't be determined from the incomplete data given, however, with a few not too unreasonable assumptions the numerical odds can indeed be calculated.
