Many thanks for all the efforts at balancing the game. Question though, could I have messed up something in the MOD install/enable? It appears to work fine when I play TEC or Advent, but anytime I play Vasari, passing my mouse cursor over the "Jam Weapons" ability of the Kortul causes a minidump error. Every time without fail. Thoughts?

Dude, calm down. Your point about the PS not working right is taken. Frustration is understandible, but people (especially Stardock and IC) are much more responsive to constructive criticism. The most you're likely to get from your approach is banned from making further posts which won't help your goal of getting the issue resolved. Take a deep breath. Calm down and approach this with a cool and level head. A thoughtful discussion of the problem and what you believe is the cause vs.

I think just reducing the frequency of creativity or perhaps making it have a "thanks to your race's creativity a new breakthrough was made that has improved your knowledge on the current field of research by 50%". I agree that in the slow research games, frequent creativity can let you make somewhat overpowering advances in no time. Personally, I love how the "very slow" research in Twilight is MUCH slower than it was in DA. Previously, I'd only improve weapons/engines/defense when I'd reached

I agree, once you find one of these suckers, starbase or no, its location should be marked for future reference. I'm currently in a similar situation as the OP where the Iconians have built a starbases on a couple of ascension crystals, and although I have the ENTIRE MAP scouted, they're location is a mystery to me as their icons have vanished.

1) Fix the MCC. I don't ever play evil and don't particularly care about metaverse scores, but apparently its an issue. 2) I agree with a poster earlier who suggested the Arceans are underpowered for being one of the older races. How about adding a building that grants +X speed (non stacking with bonuses from other worlds) to your ships within an area (about the size of a starbase sphere) around this world. Call them "Interstellar Sling-shots" (or something more suitably Arcean). This c

I like the idea of the terror star having abiilities unique to civilizations. For instance: Korath: launch 1 short range (say 5 parsecs) spore ship each turn. Drengin: destroy target star system. Altarian: Mobile military base with limited upgrades. Would help extend range of conventional fleets or assist in conquest of difficult systems without eradication of the entire system. Arcean: Bonus to ground invasions in its sphere of influence. Krynn: Enemy worlds within

I play more conquest oriented so I go for Engines and Eyes of the Universe. Engines let you move farther/bombard longer and eyes lets you intercept retaliation fleets pick off ships on their way to form fleets.

I think that the stealth/electronic warfare branches would work well for that. I don't think cloaking as "invisbile based on enemy sensors" would work too well unless the AI actually prioritized sensors. Currently it sees them as basically useless, which is a shame. Oh, and "Eyes of the Universe"? How would that fit into the cloak detection? Max sensor range already, so I think that would pretty much necessitate enhanced detection technologies. I make eyes of the universe a priority once a speci

I'm running on Vista Ultimate with 2 gig ram and I get the same msg. My current game exits to desktop after about 3 turns (auto-save is set to every 3) and the msg, "Not enough memory to save. Try increasing your virtual memory" is displayed. Yes I could set autosave to less frequently, but I get the same msg when I try to manually save. Basically I can't play my current game anymore because I cannot ever save progress. Very frustrating.

Gothfather, I can appreciate that you spent a good deal of time to gather your data on these events, but Webreg has valid points. While starting a hundred completely random games with random civs each time would be very time consuming your main arguement against this is that you don't want to spend the time to do this this. I wouldn't either, but getting upset over it won't do any good. I think your distribution is interesting and there very likely are events that occur more frequently

had this happen several times to me as well. Typically have to load a previous auto-save because if you save the turn that screwed up, when you load the game, you can press turn again but the button disappears again. This is why I've got my autosave set to every 3 turns, to minimize loss/frustration when this happens.

same here. Espionage is too simplistic right now. Besides, its a little cheesey that everytime you place an agent, you see all buildings on a planet. Basically all you need is one spy to know where everything is in the enemey empire, and you never even have to actually place him.

6 Replies 5,825 Views

yeah. I think that's the case. Would be nice if there was a good way to adversely affect relations between two races. Could be a nice use of spies. Assination missions or something to discredit one civ in the eyes of another.

I think custom races are handicapped compared to the canned races owing to the larger number of points assigned to abilities. I recently played a game with my custom race against all customs on crippling. For quite a while, the MINOR races were the top civilizations in the game. Something just isn't right when the Jessuins are the No. 1 most powerful civ. That this situation could arise outside of some sort of mega event is crazy. By midgame, I was the only player who's economy was not in the to

Speaking for myself, I think a slight bonus at the start of the game does not sound so terrible, but I also have a busy life and can't sit and play a game in 1 or 2 sessions. It takes me about a month to finish a game on gigantic with everything set to rare. Given that I will save/load many times to finish a game (not to "go back in time", but to genuinely set a stopping point for the night) it's unsettling I am effectively stacking the odds further against me with each play session. Personally,

I think a civil war mega event would be great would help level the playing field when a civ gets really powerful. But it needs to be a mega event in the truest sense. Civil wars aren't pretty and devastate societies. Would require something like 25-50% of planets and equal percentage of fleets rebel and become new minor race (or maybe a major if that's possible). Could have several possible triggers each with a different probability. Possible triggers: 1) long duration of low morale

It would be nice if espionage could be even more subversive. Right now all you can do is neutralize a planetary improvement, but there's room for more. How about sabotage missions to destroy an improvement or orbiting warship (could help in invasions). Also, if you're the sort who likes to fight proxy wars, spies could be used for missions to reduce 2 races diplomatic relations. As it is, you can't get a race with good relations with another to attack. e.g. my last game, I was attacked

I think you should consider the game settings you're using before saying a given tech/improvement is useless. While a small map in general may make life support useless, a gigantic one with only occasional stars/worlds makes LS essential. I've played a couple of games where I'd never have gotten beyond my starting system without LS because habitable planet density was low. Trade is great for keeping up relations and with econ starbases, has always been a viable source of income for m

I'd like to see a political border system established as well. I think such borders would also add some value to espionage. If you can't cross into another race's space, you'd definately want to be devoting resources to spying on them: which worlds are they're main shipyards, what sorts weapons techs are they using, etc. Would also be nice to look at my homeworld once in a while and not see scouts from every other race just hanging around waiting to see what's going on in my empire.

I can't seem to play GC2 for more than a couple of turns before the game freezes. I suddenly hear a loud, digital sounding screech from my speakers and then my entire computer freezes. I've had this issue with a couple of other games, so I know its not exclusive to GC2, but does anyone have any thoughts about what the cause might be? I'm using the latest nvidia drivers for my Geforce4 Ti 4200 and on-board sound card (AC '97) so i don't think that's it at least. Any thoughts/suggestions anyone?
