Game Locks-up

I can't seem to play GC2 for more than a couple of turns before the game freezes. I suddenly hear a loud, digital sounding screech from my speakers and then my entire computer freezes. I've had this issue with a couple of other games, so I know its not exclusive to GC2, but does anyone have any thoughts about what the cause might be? I'm using the latest nvidia drivers for my Geforce4 Ti 4200 and on-board sound card (AC '97) so i don't think that's it at least. Any thoughts/suggestions anyone?

Please post your debug.err file. It's in your galciv2 folder and can be opened with wordpad or notepad. Just copy and paste the entire file, thanks. Hopefully we can get you going.

While I'm not sure this will help, you can try updating your audio drivers:
Realtek drivers

That is definitely not the latest driver, and don't forget to reinstall DirectX after you replace the audio driver.

I had a long-term problem with audio, because the Miles Sound System really is a piece of crap, and eventually had to remove my Sound Blaster Audigy card and reactivate my on-board AC97 audio, plus replace the driver three times and reinstall directx before I could get rid of the same exact problem.

Two things to note:

The geniuses at RealTek used a nonstandard font for their PDF documentation, so it's difficult to read. There are PDF readers out there that are not from Adobe which allow you to change the font much more easily than Acrobat Reader.

Sometimes it's better to get your audio drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's website, but only if you don't get results from the latest ones from the RealTek site, as hardware is sometimes slightly different from the reference specifications.
