Not a beta tester, no time ;) I installed the beta Fences 5.51 and now every time I awaken my monitor and relog onto Windows 10 - latest with May7/24 updates - my Fences have moved position to some random location on my desktop, sometime right on top of each other. It's a a pain to have to drag them bacvk every time I get on my desktop. Also using a TESmart Dual Monitor KVM (hardware.) Is there anyway to roll back to the latest stable version without losing all my fences

I am playing DA at Crippling difficulty/Medium maps now. I don't worry too much about deficit spending until I get my Planets going. I'll deficit spend almost every turn for the first few years. The sliders are key. I keep my research slider high, my social low, and my military set to 0 - I'll rush buy ships as needed. I never drop my production slider below 100% unless I need to climb out of debt. I keep my taxes set so I get 100% approval at all times during t

I was never able to get Civ 4 to run for any length of time on my PC. I finally lost interest and it is now shelfware. From the little I played, I did not like it. I loved Civ2 and Civ3 though. Civ4 seemed to be targeted to multiplayer - and I really don't care for multiplayer. To me, the game seemed 'dumbed' down in a lot of ways...it was smaller in scale compared to Civ3. On the plus side, a lot of people love it. To each their own...but to be honest Civ4 left a ba

Yes, if you have different views, by all means go there and post them. That is what Joe User is about. If it seems slanted to one side, then maybe others with differing views can help balance it out - but they have to start posting there.

Influence wins were getting so easy for me, I started turning them off in new games starting a few months ago. There were a couple of games I started and finished up with them on ...I used them mainly for a quick victory when it was obvious I had already won and did't feel like spending more time playing out to the obvious conclusion. I only build Influence starbases if I really want to flip a planet, otherwise I don't bother with them. The only non resource Starbases I will build now a

You will never see any ships that arein Fleets in the Trade Screen. This is misleading info. You can see the categories of ships they have (attack, defense, etc) and the amount of those ships in the Foreign Policy/Stats screen with the right amount of espionage. This screen will allow you to get a better feel for their strength...when they are builidng up or losing ,military power.

But the moment you'd lift pop for invasion from a 6B planet you'd get big dent in your income, much bigger than if you'd lift pop from 12B planet. BR, Iztok That's the heart of the matter.

Why not just give the players the choice between using the new DA combat method and the old DL combat method? Seems like a simple solution. That way the fans of either system can still play the game the way they like. Isn't GalCiv all about allowing players to play the kind of game they want? Not so simple - the aI in each game has been designed and balanced for it's respective combat method. It would entail rewriting and re-balancing each DA aI routin

Excellent post Wyndstar. You have outlined the problem re Defense/aI very well.

Is the demo version of DL still available for download? Unfortunately I cannot go to the GalCiv site from work...have to connect via Stardock forums... If so, try the demo...that will give you a hint at what the game is all about, and you can see if your card will run it. My personal view is that you should buy it, it's a great game - probably the best 4x game I have played, and one of, if not the best space themed 4x games...(I have a soft spot for the original StarFlight, bu

Also the AI doesnt seem to understand that you have Galactic Privateer, it still keeps chasing around your freighters and just tag along indefinetely. Ive had empires that I was at war with who had a large percentage of his fleet chasing around my freighters instead of attacking/defending. That may be a good tactic if I didnt have Galactic Privateer but if I have then it's just plain dumb. That's not AI code, t

Stardock advertises one of the main features of the game is that it has no copy protection. Really? I`ve also noticed that since it was introduced the Star Force copy protection system has been kicked all over the internet. The point of all this? Star Force never stopped me from playing software I acquired legally, Stardock`s activation system has...I`d be very interested in hearing some other peoples thoughts on this situation. This topic may be better suited to a new

You are in the right place. Spend a few hours and look around the forums - there are plenty of threads that help out new players. The GC2 Wiki is also a good place to learn things... https://www.galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Civilizations_Wiki

I think there is a "+10" speed bonus on Warp. Warp 2 is just an upgrade. The aI will pay more for 'older' techs that have associated bonuses such as + production, + economy, + research, etc. than it will for the next tech up that does not have a bonus. It seems to also pay a bit more if there is an achievement or new upgrade - for example, it does not pay much for Superior Hulls even though it is fairly deep in the tree, Superior Hulls does not have any associated hardware

Winnow out any ship designs you no longer need in the Shipbuilder. Ships are saved in the save game file; (in addition to the ship config folder); - this can help speed up the time to shut down and load save games. (I delete them - after making a copy of the folder containing the designs in case I want them in the future, not sure if Obsoleteing them actually removes them from the save game file.)

I like that one; it forced me to learn how to play without the Starbase crutch.

I agree that the Mega Events should be left alone. If anything ,a few are too weak. I also agree that by default they need to be turned off . And when turned on, you should get a Warning Box saying "Are you sure, they are meant to be very Unbalancing and are not meant for inexperienced players. Use at you own risk." And I second the motion that this thread be stickied.

Yea removing the saved ships to another folder, then bring them back for old games is the simplest solution. No need to manually bring them back for an old save - the designs themselves are actually in the save game file.

As mostly a lurker now - what this thread has degenerated into is the reason I stopped posting. Thank gawd the game is worth it or Stardock would have seen the last of this customer.

Does the AI trade techs between opponent races? I'm wondering, maybe that's how they outpace my research. I trade techs, but I am typically stingy and don't do very much of that. It's hard to give a good tech up.

For me so far, I've found that Medium maps are the most difficult at the higher levels. (Crippling and above.) I usually play Abundant Stars, loose or scattered; Abundant planets - but only Common habitable planets. Tech trading on, tech research either normal or slow. 5-7 random AI opponents with random intelligence; Minors on. These are tough for me because there are not many habitable planets - but lots of stars - and the AI at higher levels usually gets a few more. It'

I pre-ordered in early August - wayyyyy before they announced that the release was being moved back form November to February. I may or may not beta test - (still enjoying 1.4, and honestly, I work in the field and really don't feel like working while playing - but that is my choice;)- that is not why I pre-ordered; but it is a bonus. I think it was a great gesture on SD's part to offer the beta to those who pre-ordered early to make up for the 3 month extension of the release date.<b
