PixelPirate: there is a converter widget, at least there is one in my widget directory. Might have come with the newest version of DX, but it converts everything you can think of (well maybe not everything)

I too would like an address book which would allow the import of my Thunderbird contacts and which would load the 'write mail' screen when I double clicked on a contact. (basically essencays #2 )

Also like the calendar ideas

i think some widget(s) for Thunderbird (i use that instead of Outlook)~upcoming calendar events, address book, tasks. (the program is so much nicer than outlook too

I would just like to see any widget that accesses the internet being able to handle proxy authentication. There are very few that I can use when I plug the laptop in at work.

I'm trying to figure out how to do this with my gadget. It will clone itself 5 times when we start OnScriptEnter and delete all clones and the original when we do OnScriptExit. Can you do an example of this. Thanks.

BruB Sat, August 13, 2005 Here is my ideas, Money converter, i'm using www.xecom and having it on my desktop would be great.

One came with desktopX a few versions ago. I still have it but not sure it comes with latest version but its called Currency Converter by _Martin_

this is purely a wish list.. i realize DX has some limitations, but mostly the ease and accessability of widgets makes me want to replace certain applications alltogether (like character map or type manager)

magnification widget..

widget manager widget (yes... like dashboard...)

map directions widget

sketch tool widget (let you draw out something you can copy and paste into another app like photoshop)

wireless network finder widget

dos shell widget

num pad widget (for lappy users) .. could be a calculator/num pad

black jack widget

note pad widget (like an advanced sticky pad, but individual notes scroll up into a title bar.. for having long notes you view at once. my thought is, when i'm scratch padding flash or html code but sticky notes are poor compromise and winkey+m is to lcoate my pad.txt file on my desktop is a pain in the butt)

car milage tracker widget

periodic table of elements widget (nice for students)

web MD search (because i'm ODC and a hyocondriac)

recent documents widget

recent webpages widget

favorites widget for firefox

flash/html reference widget (ie, webmonkey search in the fashion of the silica dictionary search)

ok i'm done for now. speaking of ease and accessibility - what if Objectdocks could be made visible by hitting a hot key, like your widgets? imagine hitting alt+` and an objectdock taskbar of your own design comes up center screen.

I still really, really want a nice Web comic widget (the one for Kapsules is excellent) and an appointment/calendar widget and task list that integrate with Outlook nicely.

I'm working on an Album Art widget/gadget. The plan is to have it popup on a track change and auto fetch the album cover from the internet and cache the image for later use. Baring any unforeseen problems an initial version should be ready by this weekend.

I was thinking the other day how cool it would be to have an Audio Note Taker / Dictation widget like DesignCaddy mentioned. I don't know what I'm doing, but that would be a fun thing to work on.

Along the same lines, and inspired by Niall Brown, http://forum.deviantart.com/software/general/465529/9172184 , would be a quick small visualisation window responsive to mic line-in. (We already got Project #1 from the link worked out)

Also would like a System Sound Theme manager widget. Could package, save, load, and apply themes for System Sounds.

MP3 Tag editor widget.

Generally it would be nice if widgets would be proxy aware. Currently I have a solution for this, but if my office notebook will be changed, I'll be stuck. For a short period the command line tool called proxycfg was available on microsoft's download page. This tool sets system-wide proxy settings, and used by non proxy-aware apps, as the rest are using their own settings. It can also fetch the proxy settings from your IE settings - comes handy in corporate environment, where proxy is set by a logon script.

Apart from this, it shouldn't be that hard to have a proxy property in DX.

About the widgets, I'd be happy with the following:

-a multi protocol IM widget similar to trillian
-a skinnable Google Talk widget
-a skinnable frontend for gmail

Bonus request:
I know it's not a widget's job, but stardock could come up with a working exposé clone under the umbrella of ObjectDesktop. Link

just to let you know. There is an FTP program for Mac OS X that does what you want.
Captain FTP allows users to create Virtual folders on your desktop for any remote folder and as many as needed. You just drag and drop the file/folder on the Virtual Folder Icon.
