grayhaze....a fact of sexual attraction revolves around male perception of potential fertility of the female image...specifically hip to waist proportion and proportional representation of facial features...the younger-looking the better.  This is animal dynamics and well proven and researched.

The anime and/or hentai stylized image is a direct correlation of this attraction targeting....all to do with the 'ideal' proportions of facial characteristics deemed the popular attractant.

Do an analysis of the 'traditional' female 'beauty' and compare.

Who is claimed to be the world's most 'beautiful' actress?.....Audrey Hepburn....she have large eyes for her face proportion? ...sure does.

There's nothing magical or obscure about the motivation behind the anime artist's styling choice.....just pure physics of biology.

This big-eyed, young faced, well endowed 'creation' is not easily dismissed as being a fault of the beholder...it is marketing-specific, with one intent...to titillate the predatory sex [male].

Only a small part of it can be excused as the Japanese predilection towards western features  [eyes less-heavily lidded], the real issue is with a dissimilar social response to sexuality being depicted in the young.

Do a search on 'hentai' and you get a clearer idea of where it all goes a bit 'wrong'....

What I find odd is while this type of imagery of what an "idealized" [used very loosely] woman looks like is objectionable to some parents and yet parents buy by the bucket-load a bikini-clad doll with "idealized" proportions and ageless youth in the form of Barbie for their little girls

Sir Greyhaze I've looked at my super-duper 'How to draw Manga' book by 'The Society for the Study of Manga Techniques' whoever they may be. I have come to two conclusions.

1. As near as I can tell the features are nearer those of a girl not a woman.

2. It is permissable in manga to use the dimension of a childs face when drawing adults in order to give them a degree of cuteness.

So no help there then, although it clearly defies your assessment of how these features may be interpreted.

Unfortunately copyright prevents me from offering images and text from the relevant section.

I might also add to those that worry about people attempting to assess such images - there is a world of difference between attempting to judge if an image is portraying sexuality in a permissable and decent fashion and finding a picture inherently sensual.

Like I've said elsewhere its not for me - but I'm not sufficiently worried to say that it's something that others shouldn't have.

PS. I think Jafo and myself may just have agreed on something

Well, how about a Calvin Kline wallpaper, of some guy wearing nothing but some boxers?
I mean that is clothing, it cover his "package." Most of the Adverts I have seen, like that usually show some guy, that is well of an adult age. yet is would also seem inappropriate, albeit withing the guidelines of good taste we are discussing. Does it make it any different? does it become any more acceptable? Non acceptable? It is sad when an Image evokes the merest thoughts of Paedophilia, or even the hint of impropriety. Being a father of a Teenaged, Daughter I have become very alert to anything untowards with my Daughter. I am overly protective of her, and am the Baseball Bat weilding type of Father. I have a hard time with todays fashions for teenagers, and have to keep my mouth shut alot. (Don't even get me started of the Fashion thing!) My wife is the final arbeiter when it comes to the Clothes issues. I am Father Fogey. Anyways that being said, I am disheartened, when I logged on to WC Today and see BoXXIs' Screener, MAngled. I make this suggestion, mayhaps WinCustomize should give an Artist the ability to have dual Click Method to view anything that an Artist would think is untowards, or of objectionable content to the WC Audience. I also further think, that WC should come up with a "Edited Image" Graphic to be provided to an Artist, Downloadable, and applicable to their Images when anything is in question. Something like a Circle with edited through the Center, like the GhostBusters Circle.edited.jpg (JPEG Image, 200x200 pixels)

Mozilla hates doing the picture links.

Personally, I wouldn't be offended by that image if my daughter had it as a background on her computer.(If I had a daughter that is.lol.) And, I know that I would be a really protective father, especially if I had a daughter. If I saw a picture like that on my daughters computer, I would think that it was just cute, and that she had good taste and was obviously quite mature. Nothing negative, at all. Now, if I saw my daughter dressing like that, as many of girls in the Madonna era, then I would have a problem with her, not the image. It is just a well done cartoon anime. The same stuff you can see in all the girly anime cartoons on TV.

I don't have any children  [just a cat...."just"?].....but plenty of nieces....ranging from 30 to 7.....and am the 'protective uncle'.....where inappropriate approaches will have people walking funny and speaking in high voices....

Nah...not doing either...just poking fun at how people see things that aren't there. It's scary when someone makes an issue out of nothing...

I feel this particular cartoon is completely harmless...that is until someone reads something into it that just isn't there

You have every right to 'feel' that way, but not to go and poke fun at others who (may) disagree...
Your opinion is just that, an opinion...it is neither 'fact,' nor 'fiction,' but rather what you FEEL is 'right.'

Cygnus: I defaced the image myself, because I'm sick of all this nonsense.

It's Sad. A cartoon Anime, that's more clothed than most of the women on the beach. Heck, there are even 3 and 4 yr. old girls on the beach with bikinis, and no one thinks anything about it. But, put a Anime girl on a wallpaper that is scantily clothed and people complain. I just don't get it. People who get aroused by Anime like that are probably the same ones that get aroused by three year old girls. And, I think that there is something seriously wrong with them.

Boxxi, I don't know if you know it, but you have let other people dictate what you consider art. Even when WC approves. It's sad.

I recently found a awesome website with some art for my next theme, but I refuse to provide a link to it here, because the site uses X-rated material for advertisement. I'll just have to find the walls somewhere else. I respect the ideals of this site, and I know what's right and wrong in those ideals. But, when the site approves of a wall, and yet the artist is scared away, I think it hurts artistic advancement. I think that this is the idea of these people. Unfortunately it seems that Boxxi doesn't see what they are doing to him. Sure, there is a fine line, but who makes the rules here for art?

its interesting to read this difference in whats so called apropriate or not. here in norway a picture like that wouldent manage to lift an eyebrow. it looks like this thing is different from country to country and from what i have seen, it looks like the "land of the free" are one of the most eager to censur pictures with minimal dressed females. i dont understand why its this big difference, but i sure dont think its a good trend when it comes to the future of art. now its this. whats next?

Some societies are more prudish than others. Look at the uproar over the 'flashing' of Janet Jackson's boobs. I mean, for crying out loud, all that over a nipple... Yet in Amsterdam there is hard core porn in shop windows which anyone can see, including kids.

Here, we have a bikini clad cartoon causing a stir... sigh...

Whatever you do, someone will object

Actually EventHorizon...it's not just a feeling...it's a fact that I was poking fun at (and that is a right as well) and it's a given that someone will disagree.

The fact is (and what I'm poking fun at)...in this country we have way to many people whinning about petty, innocuous things, and blaming someone or something other than themselves for whats wrong in the world. It's a cartoon...period.

She/it is not depicted naked, nothing sexually suggestive. She/it is sitting there with her/it legs crossed, very lady like and un-threatening. Why must something sexual have to be attached to it? It's a cute cartoon...nothing more...period.

How about the Disney cartoon in which someone saw something supposedly sexual in nature written in the clouds? Is that silly or what!?

Thank god our ancestors didn't think like this...none of us would be here.

OK...I'm done with this post...it's getting old & pointless.

Poor Boxxi! I feel for ya!

Hey WebGizmos, don't feel sorry for me! I find it all rather pathetic actually. I must admit, I have been laughing most of the time at this charade. Wait till you see my NEXT screenshot....Muwahahahahahaha;)

I find it interesting that one person questioning whether a certain wall is appropriate for WC means that an entire country is "eager to censur". That's great that the wall wouldn't lift an eyebrow in Norway. Would this discussion even be allowed then?

By the way, the person who started this topic doesn't appear to live in the US.

The problem is the super conservative religious right thats imposed on people of the US (and heavily supported here obviously) causing images of (for lack of better description) "scantily clad women" to be BAD.
The iconification and objectification thats rampant in the US is the main cause of such utter crap occuring over a "naked body".

"My children might see a naked body then start looking at hardcore pornography!"
Where were you brought up? The bible belt? Have your children never seen you naked? (Hey it happens.)
If things like this are looked upon as being "bad" then they will be.
If they're looked at as "art" then they're not.

I honestly don't understand how that image could be looked upon as being innapropriate considering there's no nudity, notentacles doing what tentacles do in Hentai or anything else for that matter.

But hey, if it is "bad" to you, never pick up a foreign magazine or go to a foreign country with little children. You'll be covering their eyes and locking them away in your hotel room the whole time.

Doomgaze....the people charged with 'policing' content on Wincustomize.com are not necessarily 'US' at all.

Generally Anime is acceptable....that which borders on Hentai is not.

Wincustomize.com is a private site which abides by a careful balance of 'control' to dissuade those eager to post all kinds of tripe here as found on so many other sites out there.

Generally some of the submissions that are rejected are just 'amusing'.....amusing that anyone would actually 'want' to be associated with the upload.....others are pure, hard-pornography....by anyone's standards.

Wincustomize.com is to remain PG13.....and will not be 'R' or 'X'.

BTW....'nudity' does exist within the galleries.....however it is within context.   Britney's bare boobs in a screenshot purporting to be displaying a desktop customizing is 'gratuitous' and unnecessary and is generally rejected out of hand.  [clever excuse is to tell the uploader to 'partly' obscure the photographer's copyrighted image]....
