Nobody is made to kill, made with the capability to kill - yes. But the choice to kill, purposely, is that of the individual. Presumably balanced against consequence and gain, within the framework of their own ability to rationalise between right and wrong.

Personally the concept of a 'cool gun' theme is a bit of an oxymoron - I probably would have thought differently when I was much younger, but there hadn't been a Dunblane or Columbine then - however in the spirit of getting the thread back on track you might want to try these links:-

Yes, Guns can be used to Kill Ppl but they are also used to hunt for food, for protection against man and beast. I live in a state where almost EVERYONE I know owns firearms. I wouldnt step into the woods without my 44mag. I have carried it for 30 years into the woods and have only HAD to use it one time to protect myself and my son from a Bear. But that ONE time made it worth while to carry it in the future.

What makes a gun dangerous is SOME of the ppl who use them, NOT all. If ppl start running school children over with four wheel drive trucks are we going to ban the trucks????? No!! Four ppl just beat six others to death with Aluminum Baseball bats, Should we ban the bats???? NO!!

I once had the opportunity to be in the woods with a man who didnt carry a gun. When a bear showed up and scared the guy, guess where he was to be found, BEHIND ME, the guy with a gun. Its rather ironic that ppl will scream and hollar about how bad guns are until they are in a dangerous situation, then they are begging the guys with guns for help!!!

I hunt. I will not ever give up my right to own my firearm because through responsible behavior I have EARNED the right to own and use it.

But the world is so complicated now.

One side wants to take the right to keep and bear arms away from the people stating that there are not enough safeguards in place to guarantee that the weapon will be used in a legal and responsible manner. The opposition to this is that law abiding citizens will have their privacy invaded and their histories raped in order to identify them as law abiding citizens. The downside....in a world where laws are broken by those holding the highest offices...how much real credence can a proposal like this have? Will the rights of the common law abiding citizen to protect himself be taken away? Then the criminals win. Not cool.

The other side says that as an opener. We have a right to keep and bear arms to secure food and safety for ourselves and our families. But life as it is now in a dangerous world has a way of changing the mundane into threat in an instant...or vice versa....the threat into the benign. By what measure is a man or woman deemed sane enough to in this volatile age carry upon their persons the means to take the life of another?

As with many other technologies throughout history...a particular device created with the potential to aide and serve mankind as a tool....is turned into a weapon that carries with it the power over life and death given the operator of the technology.

It is my opinion that in the face of the lack of mankind as a whole to control its overwhelming greed and desire for power, we hold in our hands the means to our own demise...again.

I find the beauty of my rifle to be its ability to feed me and protect me from being harmed by those ill souls that wish to harm me. There is after all....a non-lethal zone. I respect the workmanship of the makers of my firearm and the care they put into the building of it.

Very few need to carry a weapon on a daily basis in civilized nations in order to provide food for their families. Instead, they are forced to carry weapons to protect themselves from those that would do them harm.

The blackmarket supplies bad guys. But they want to monitor the good folk that follow the law. But sometimes good folk find themselves in desperate situations and become bad guys...sometimes the good guys that are paid to protect the common good guys go bad...greed.....power....stress....

I had a handgun cursor...it was a nice little 44mag....I don't think I could ever fire one in reality...too much kick...but the 38cal was good for close up......and the 22ruger was a nice little bedside protection in some bad ole days in scary places....

Here in Alaska we no longer have to have a permit to carry a concealed firearm. I was recently pulled over for speeding (she let me go with a warning) and I simply told the officer that I had a 45 in the glove box. She asked to see it and took it to her car while she checked my info. Then she returned it to me and thanked me for telling her about the firearm and said good bye.

Every one of my children know how to handle a firearm and how to use them. It takes education to remove the mystisism from firearms. Once thats removed, a person can become a responsible owner. I had my first 22 single shot when I was in Kindergarden. Firearms are tools just as a hammer is.

Realize Yrgal that even though I had one doesnt mean that I was able to use it whenever I wanted. My dad would take me to the fireing range and teach me firearm safety and proper shooting techniques. Afterwords we would clean the firearms we used and stowed them properly in a locked case. I was taught that firearms are not toys. I was never allowed to have toy cap guns and I was not allowed to play games like Cops and Robbers as they were violent.

PPl blame guns on violence but fail to say a thing about Duke Nukem or other games that have children blowing away other game players with guns, chainsaws, and any other thing they can find in the game. Or movies that depict acceptance of teens shooting one another. Again, its NOT the guns, its what ppl teach their children that is wrong. Those children grow up enough to apply what they have LEARNED. Dont blame Guns, Blame parents and society in general for allowing the games and movies and entertainment that condones irresponsible behavior.

Its the mentally deficient that blame others or other things for their lack of self control. If having a gun, watching scarface or playing DukeNukem is going to make you want to shoot someone then don't have, watch or play with it. I've done and had all three and I don't have the urge to shoot anyone, but don't break into my house or try and harm my love ones.

I am just totally against guns. Bears have a right to live to. They live in the woods. We don't live in the woods. Is it right for us to go into the woods and kill them? You don't see bears coming into our homes to kill us.

Then, there is that old saying, "Guns don't kill, people do". But, people use guns to kill. There would be a lot more buffalo too without guns. Why slaughter helpless animals for sport? Take up jogging or baseball, for christs sake. It is a lot more healthy too.

True, we can't really outlaw guns from the criminals. This is my only problem with outlawing guns. We need to start with removing them from the criminals first. And, stop selling them second. Using a bow and arrow is much more of a sport. And again, there were a lot more buffalo then.

I really don't get that "Guns don't kill, people do" argument, especially when combined with "you can kill with a baseball bat, should we outlaw baseball bats too?". It's not like guns are made for eating your spaghetti with or for combing your hair with. Guns are made to kill. That's it. Nothing else.  Sure, some guns are made for hunting, but that's another story. Handguns shouold be outlawed altogether and riffles should be limited to 1 shot at a time. Shoot, reload.

Again it all goes to how you are tought values, if you are tought as a child that life is a very valueble item than all the Bad Tv shows and computer games and Guns won't cause you to lose that value in life. However if the parents don't have the time or take the effort to teach these values, than a child will learn a twised set of values and not care about life. Human, animal, good or bad won't matter because that individual will not know any better. So my thoughts are, guns don't kill parents kill, the ones that don't care.

Just to clear something up. When I said I used a gun when encountering a bear I did NOT shoot the Bear. I shot the ground in front of me and it scared the bear off. However, that does not always work so I was ready for a follow up shot if required.

Yes there would be more buffalo without guns. However there would not be a United States either. Columbus would not have been able to settle on this big island and you would not live where you are now without them.

I have 7 guns and not one of them is an assault rifle. Two are hand guns. Two are only for shooting at the range. The rest are for hunting.

A graphic of a gun is not going to lure a child or adult into harming another with a gun.

This maybe true. But, I just believe that in those instances, we should try to live in harmony with the animals. The woods(Forests) are the only natural habitat the animals have. We don't need to live in the woods. But, humans do believe in killing everything in site with "guns" when they want something(I.E. Indians,Buffalo).
