I've given this some thought before writing. I do not hunt, cannot bear the thought of injuring anything living and cannot stand the sight of blood. Still, I do believe that we have the right to bear arms and I have been known to shoot target myself. I truly wonder if the morbid obsession with guns as an instrument of death has more to do with our making them forbidden. Anyone who has observed an angry rebellious child knows that the surest way to et them to do something is to say that they dare not do it. For example, in the States we have a horrific problem with binge drinking among college students that is not commomly seen in cultures where children are exposed to a glass of wine with dinner as a commonplace thing such as Italy or Greece. If we took the mystery out of firearms they loose their "forbidden" appeal.
As to beauty, I recognize art when I see it (LOVE the Met)and just yesterday was at a gun library where there were some old pieces retailing for $13,000. They were intricately carved and quite beautiful. I have to admit that there is something "Mad TVish" about seeing some of the individuals in the library with guns, but wierd does not mean dangerous.
Thus ends Sapphira's soliloquy...
