Task Manager?

Anyone know if you can get the Windows task manager to come up other than using the three finger salute(alt-ctrl-delete?) My sister has the Sasser worm and she can't get the task manager to come up......any ideas?

Nothing is going to bring it up.... read http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser_printxp.asp

What flavor of AntiVirus is installed?

yrag another problem, she can't access the internet......by time she gets there, her system shuts down .......this happens over and over again......I have tried to help her disable the worm first(as per Microsoft's instructions)and the next step is to bring up the task manager......but no such luck

carolelee - does she have patch 835732 installed? She can look in 'Add/Remove Programs' in Control Panel to see if it's listed.

Could she bring up the task manager up in safe mode?

OK...let's see if we can make this simple...I'm confident it won't work, but let's give it a shot

Have her...and she can do it in save mode if it won't let her in full mode...bring up the Start/Run and type 'msconfig' (no quotes) and uncheck anything she can in 'Startup' section. You'll have to guide her here, but she should be able to disable almost, if not all of the items. The idea is not to have anything running on the re-boot (except MS System Files) and it should still allow her to get on the net to kill this thing. Let me know....

Gary, her System Configuration Utility only came up twice(and she tried 8 times)and then it vanishes into thin air?

I was afraid of that.....does she have access to any other computers (like a neighbor or such?). I don't think she is going to get the system back with her lack of expertise without the patch and removal tool on a floppy. Let me be clear, I'm not trying to be obtuse or insulting, but if we keep going she's going to do more damage then good....

Have someone close to her with a computer download this program http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ and throw it on a disk so she can get rid of that nasty little bugger.
