Inconsistent desktop right click menu

Hi I noticed when I first right click on desktop upon a reboot of my PC, there are 2 "Configure Fences" entry in the menu, but from the 2nd time onwards, there's only 1 entry. How did this happen and can it be fixed?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? Also need its full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe
  2. Fences full version number.
  3. How soon on boot you do the desktop right click? Was the system finished loading up?

Thank you.

1. Windows 10 Version 21H2 19044.3086

2. Version 5.86 Revision 8

3. I think the system was well loaded up, I did the right click after I've browsed for some websites.

I can not reproduce your issue. I am on Windows 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.5247). Few more question:

  1. Does it happen often?
  2. Can it easily be reproduced? If so please share how you do it.

Thank you,

It happens every time I log out and log back in, or reboot.

After some debugging, I figured there is a FencesShellExt entry in the registry causing the problem.

HKLM\Software\Classes\Directory\Background\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers

After I remove this entry and log in again, the problem is gone.

I left other FencesShellExt entries unchanged, including HKLM\Software\Classes\Directory\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers

I don't know if the registry key I deleted is important or what purpose it serves, maybe this could be a question for your developers...
