Icons not moving or rolling up with a fence

I have my icons in various fences and set to roll up, they dont. also (when unlocked) they dont move with the fence. when I boot the computer Windows 11, the icons seem to be in their fences but not rolled up. so there are hundreds of icons on my desktop all muddled up. The fence will roll up but not take the icons with it.

As you can see here that the fence is rolled up but you can still see the icons as if the fence was not rolled up

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need more information on your system.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? Also need its full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe
  2. Fences full version number.
  3. Monitor/s information: Screen resolution, Windows Scale factors (100%, 150%, 200% etc) on all monitors.

Thank you.

Any specific reason you're not updating to the latest Windows 11 version? Please update your Windows 11 to latest released version v23H2, reboot and retest and see if the issue still there. Also, see if your graphics driver also updated. Try those and report back.

I will do that, when it happens once more as I have just spent another 3/4 hour putting all the icons back into their relevant fences. I cant keep doing this. perhaps if it doesn't work, I could go back to version 4 which i didnt have any problems with?

BTW, do you have OneDrive Desktop Sync turn on? That might also causing issue with your Desktop Fences.

Hi rbrimson01 – when this happens, does doing a restore from backup fix the issue? (In the layouts tab.)

Also, if you move the Fence, do the icons go with it? Or have they just outright falling out of the Fence.

Thank you

From your video it look like the icons are not actually inside those Fences. Which is strange. Just as a test, turn on "Auto arrange Icons", All your icons will arrange itself to the left except those actually inside the Fences. Does those icons that in the Fences stay in its Fences or all moved and align itself to the left or your screen? If all moved, that show those icons actually are not control by the Fences. There might be something else controlling your desktop. Do you have any other 3rd party application that introduce its own desktop overlay in your system. Something similar to this case: https://forums.stardock.com/494957.

I had auto arrange icons on. so I turned it off and on again, the icons didnt move although same thing is happening. I can move the fence and the icons still are lined up so to speak. they dont go with the fence. so I have to select all the icons again and drag them into the fence so that the fence will see them again.

Few question:

  1. Do you by any chance has 360 total security installed?
  2. Do you have any software that have features that control how your desktop work?

and no I dont have 360 total security installed and I dont have any software installed that would control my desk top as I said version 4 worked for years with no problems. do you know if I can install that version and get rid of the new one?

I think there is something not installed properly over the old one when you install the new version. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Hi rbrimson,

We're wondering if this issue might have anything to do with a problem we're seeing somewhere else. I'm wondering if you can follow the instructions at the top of https://forums.stardock.com/529991/page/1 to install the test build and send in debug output?

Please after install this the new copy, reboot, put icons back in the Fence groups as reproduce the issue. After you put the icons back in the Fence groups, do they fall out again, and/or fail to roll up again as you were seeing?

ok I just rebooted and all my icons are out of their fences and are all hard left
