Start11 1.31 changelog

  • Right-click on the left side of centered taskbars when the enhanced taskbar is enabled now correctly shows the menu on secondary monitors
  • Fixed issue with closing one item from the thumbnail popup from the taskbar in enhanced mode making the popup window jump to the far left of the screen sometimes
  • The line on 22H2 taskbars now adjusts with the alpha set on the taskbar by the user and is hidden entirely when the taskbar is on top. You can also create a registry key in the usual location of type string and give it a value of "1" and a name of "HideTaskbarLineEntirely" should you wish to always hide the line entirely.
  • Fixed mouseover pinned item tooltip moving away sometimes when leaving the taskbar
  • Fences items in Win11 menu mode will now save their order. Note that no gaps are saved in Win11-style menus only the order is
  • Tweak to refreshing apps list when new apps are installed as the search did not always refresh correctly for the newly installed application
  • Native Windows 11 will now center exactly vs in line with the start button when Start11 enhances the taskbar and had a centered start button. You can also create a registry key in the usual location of type string and give it a value of "1" and a name of "ForceWin11MenuToOffset" should you wish to line up with the start button as it did in 1.3
  • Fixed an issue with the taskbar on top having a gap at the bottom of the screen that maximized windows did not use when using the enhanced taskbar
  • Fixed issue with taskbar clock on primary monitor not showing up with enhanced taskbar enabled sometimes initially until a resize or click on the more system icons button
  • Fixed issue with the desktop area (that maximized windows use) not being correct after some screen resolution/display config changes
  • Fix for secondary taskbar buttons on occasion overlapping the Win11 widgets/teams/search icons when using center mode with Start11 enhancing the taskbar
  • Adds in the messaging about center mode needing the enhanced taskbar option on to function.
  • Added the two strings to the en and en-us lng files
  • Fixed an issue where some Win10 \ 11 PCs would not show 'sleep' in Start11.
  • Update translation strings

Known Issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

  • Initially hovering over the taskbar search may have the preview thumbnail render offset.  Subsequent hovers will render it in the correct location:

If you cancel it, do an in-app update check from the About tab in Start11, does it then complete?

Let me try it again, yes, I have canceled it btw.

I know not supported, just fyi

Middle Mouse button click to open new instance of an app doubles.

Example. if I middle mouse button click on the File Explorer icon on the task bar two instances open up.

Also Show seconds in Taskbar clock has never worked.
Note not sure if this helps troubleshoot, I have three monitors, main monitor with taskbar on top.

Using custom start button, Enhanced taskbar with Never combine taskbar buttons. Taskbar size medium and as mentioned before Align Top for taskbar position.

This is a follow-up to reply 30 in "Start11 1.30 Release Issue Report Thread".

This problem is with Edge Web Apps pinned to Start11. Still a problem in 1.31.

You can get a web app pinned to Start11 by putting a shortcut to the app on the desktop and right-clicking it and selecting "Pin to Start11". This will pin it, but it will not work. This appears to be because the item in Start11 is a link to the desktop shortcut, not the actual Web App.

Upon the upgrade from 1.25 to 1.30, four of my pinned web apps disappeared and one survived. The one that survived works fine. I can select it and Start11 will launch it. The other four do not appear in the list of applications and cannot be pinned. If I delete the web app from Edge and re-create it, it then appears in the application list and I can pin it.

In the above-mentioned reply 30, I said it might have to do with the icon size, but this is definitely not the case. I know this because I identified more missing web apps of various icon sizes.

The collation issue I already noticed for 1.1... is still relevant in 1.31.

As given by the regular windows menu:

The Start11 menu:

I use Start 11 1.3 on Windows 11 Pro 22H2 build 22623.746 with 3 monitors.

On start up, everything seems to be functioning fine on the primary monitor but the other two taskbars are only half the functionality of the settings, particularly the Multiple Monitor Settings to show the taskbar buttons where the window is open. If I open Start 11 Configuration and Restart Explorer, then everything works again.

Just bug reporting in case it will help.

Thank you for the update. Pardon me for asking, but where is this "usual location" in the registry exactly (I was googling for it but couldn't find anything)? I'd like to completely hide the line when the task bar is hidden on my OLED to lower the risk of burn-in.

Also, would it be possible to set these registry keys via an option in Start11 settings so people could easily set it without knowing this mysterious "usual location" in a future version of Start11?

I noticed that the other thread is closed, so I'll continue on with my issue here. :)

I'm on 1.31 and still experiencing the same taskbar issue. Neil, you were requesting some more information so here it is.

gQ49Igo.png (2560×1440) (imgur.com)

The issue still occurs if the taskbar is two lines. You can see how many items I generally have on the taskbar. I've also been experiencing an issue with the taskbar not respecting the custom icons I have set for Edge PWAs.

The email icon is white when unopened.

As soon as it's opened it goes to the default icon.

Context menu shows the correct icon.

Here are my taskbar settings as requested.

Problem for me is (on all three of my systems) that the line is hidden entirely (EDIT: no, I do NOT have it on top position) even WITHOUT having the Start11 Taskbar activated and WITHOUT my consent. But I want to have the line and did not find a way to get it back, short of reverting to 1.30.

Found some other issues, too (since I bought Start11 when 1.30 was "current", that version is my point of reference):

1.) When Start11 search is disabled, the search box of the Win11-type start menu vanishes; the "hide search box" toggle option is not respected (i.e. I set it NOT to hide the search box, but it is still gone; toggling on/off with restarting between changing settings does not help). Sometimes, but not always, when I type something to search for, nothing happens. This bug is also present in 1.30.

EDIT: Screenshot

2.) For some menus, dark mode is not correctly applied, e.g. shutdown menu, Start11 taskbar right click menu. My system is set to dark Windows mode, but light app mode. (do not know if these descriptions are correct; I use the german version of Windows 11). When I apply dark app mode, too, the menus have correct dark color, so I suspect the menu color is derived from the wrong color setting (app mode instead of Windows mode). Win+X menu as well as right click menus on the start menu (tested with Win10 and Win11 start menus) have correct dark color. When not using Start11 taskbar, the correct dark color is displayed for the taskbar right-click menu (no wonder, as it is controlled by Windows and not Start11). Also present in 1.30

EDIT: Screenshots (Shutdown Menu as an example)

Start11 vs. Windows default:

My Windows dark/light mode settings:

3.) Win11 Start Menu: When I move Icons between groups (not folders!) and move it to another group, everything works fine. But when I move a second icon to the same group, the previously moved icon is put to the beginning of that group. When I move a third one, both previously moved icons are put to the front, ignoring my (re-)arrangement. If I close the start menu and re-open it between movings, my arrangement is saved and everything is okay, so I suspect that the arrangements are not saved after each moving of icons. Don't know if it was present in 1.30, too. Noticed it after the update to 1.31, but actually, I prefer the Win10 style menu.

EDIT: Screenshots

EDIT:

4.) (more of a extensions/generalization to my problem with the taskbar appearance described in the beginning) Start11 interferes with the appearance of the taskbar without my approval. When the system boots up and the login animation is running, the taskbar looks exactly as I want it (i.e. the Windows default). But after 1-2 sec., Start11 kicks in and you can see some slight changes in color and transparency, the clock shows seconds (which is okay, because that is the one feature I actually want) and the border/line at the top of the bar disappears. All this despite the fact that I have not enabled the Start11 taskbar!! Even with unchanged appearance settings in the Start11 configuration tool (see screenshot). Version 1.30 respected the Windows default settings. If this (new) behaviour is intended, please give us an option to prevent any messing around with the taskbar appearance, because I (and maybe a lot more who do not post here) like the Windows default appearance of the taskbar just the way it is (+ clock showing seconds). :)

Windows default:

After Start11 kicks in:

If you look closely, you notice that the taskbar appears darker (more black instead of dark blue) and less transparent.

I hope the new screenshots help you fixing these things. :)

Best regards

Hi,

When allowing Start11 1.31 (and 1.3 for that matter) to enhance the taskbar - and change the start button to some other icon - the previews of the open apps (like Word) appear not in the centre of the taskbar above the app icon, but on the left-hand side of the screen (where Start11 "thinks" it is aligned left). Can this please be fixed? Screen shot attached.

Cheers,

Mark

I installed Start11 1.31 update last night. Now the icons on my taskbar near the Windows start button and Search have overlapped icons. My Windows is 11.

I can reproduce this.

For the search (last part of #1), If one keeps focus on Start11, the search fails (you cant see me typing, but I am). If you give focus to something else, then back to S11, it works that 1 time.

I have logged it

System tray is not showing some icons when "Taskbar size" is set to Small, and the taskbar is multi-row.

1. Here's how it looks on a single-row taskbar, all good (notice the OpenVPN tray icon I'm hovering my mouse on):

2. Here's what happens if I expand the taskbar to two rows - notice the OpenVPN icon goes completely missing:

3. Sometimes it gets even worse, with the tray area not rendering a ton of icons, some are even cut in half:

I have a problem with icons on my taskbar.
The icons and the previews of running programms get confused.
I have several icons pinned to the taskbar.
Here you can see that until WhatsApp - everything is OK

The next program on my taskbar is ayoa, which is not running, but when I move my mouse over it,
the preview of the next program (todoist - which is running) is showing

when I move my coursor over the next icon - todoist (the red one, to the right),
only a hint for ayoa is shown (the blue icon, the left one)

Here you can see that after moving my coursor over the Prezi icon
I can see the preview of two Powerpoint presentations
(here PP is running, but it is the next icon)

It is hard to navigate through running programs.
Sometimes I have to search the previews of open windows and check all the icons.
In the above screenshot, I found the preview of OneNote window (the icon is in the middle of the taskbar)
over the icon of TeamViewer (which is far to the right)
and the preview of Firefox windows over the icon of Spyder - two icons to the left...

One feature I would like to see, is the ability to press an app or shortcut on the start menu without the start menu drop away after the mouse click..

So that I can press 2 or more apps/shortcuts without having to move mouse to start button to bring the menu up again.
